About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Digestion?

Your cat’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Cat’s GI System

  1. Mouth: Where hair ingestion from grooming can cause the formation of hairballs.
  2. Stomach: The first part of the GI tract, where inflammation may cause vomiting.
  3. Small Intestine and Pancreas: The small intestine is responsible for nutrient absorption and the pancreas aids digestion.
  4. Large Colon (Transverse): Responsible for forming stool.
  5. Large Colon (Descending): Integral to stool formation—any disruption here may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  6. Rectum: Where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Talk to your vet about your cat’s GI tract and what diet can help keep it healthy. Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is:

Rich in nutrients and easily digestible

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Keep your cat's feeding on schedule.  Set your order for Autoship to make sure you always have their veterinarian-recommended nutrition on hand.

Inedible Now

I waited months for this food to come back in stock. Little Moses has been eating it for about a year to a year and a half. This diet satisfied my cat’s requirement for food that didn’t make him sick and he LOVED it! Past tense. Fast forward to the present, Royal Canin starts stocking this food again, the can looks the same. It’s even STILL labeled “Thin Slices in Gravy” But, it’s NOT THE SAME. It’s MINCED food in WATER now. WHY did they change this diet so dramatically? They're in the cat food business! They have to know that there’s a huge difference between SLICES and minced! And how picky cats are!! This food is completely different! Now my cat barely even touches it! It’s false advertising to keep printing on the can that it’s “Thin Slices in Gravy” when it’s COMPLETELY NOT “thin slices” any more. Isn’t anyone there doing quality control? Why are they selling this food this way?? Are they going to fix this? I’ve wasted hundreds of dollars on food they completely changed without notice or even bothered to change the label on the can!!

Geriatric old bitty loves it!

Our geriatric cat is getting skinny and brittle, and her bacterial balance was knocked off kilter like a kitten chasing a ribbon wand. This has helped stabilize her “movements” and the gravy helps to keep her hydrated. She doesn’t have dentures, and the chunks seem easier to eat than the pate.

Royal canin gastrointestinal canned food

Seems to work well. I wish the price was lower for the size can they sell. My cat doesn’t love the flavor but the shreds are a great texture. Overall a 5. It has a gravy sauce and works great on my boys digestive system.

Finger (or paw in this case) lookin' good!

My cat has had gastrointestinal problems for quite a while and both the wet and the dry seem to be really helping. Although more expensive than I like, it's still cheaper than the continuing Vet bills!

Cat will eat this

My kitty 11yrs old, has IBS and he likes this wet food better than the Hill’s ID prescription can food. He doesn’t exactly gobble it down but he eats it. Much less vomiting. Only drawback- very expensive but we do anything to make them feel better, no?

Bruno seems to like it

My cat, Bruno, has some digestive issues. So my vet prescribed this food. Thankfully, Bruno likes it. But I will add that Bruno is not finicky where food is concerned.

She likes it!

Our cat has digestive issues and this prescription food was a hit with her! The package came on time as promised. Thank you.

Changed formula

Dang it! I opened up a can today after waiting for quite some time for it to come back into stock and there is barely any gravy in it. My cat only licks the gravy and this doesn’t have hardly any and this is so disappointing. Especially considering the price of these and I ordered three cases! She licked a little bit of it but there is not enough in it. I’m going to have to find something else for her. I guess I’ll be returning these as well. Come on RC bring back the gravy!!

Inconsistent Formula

All 4 of my cats (siblings) have sensitive stomachs. They were eating the non-prescription version (Royal Canin Digest Sensitive Thin Slices in Gravy) and I switched to the prescription when it was out of stock. This food looked and smelled similar with dark brown large (not thin slices) pieces of food in a thicker dark brown gravy; so my cats had no issues with the change. The cases I received in January looked and smelled completely different. Light brown, thin, small pieces in a yellowish, more watery gravy. My cats did not care for it. I called Royal Canin and they said nothing has changed. The cases of food I received in February were "normal". I am unsure if it was a one month issue; however, because the consistency was night and day, I have cancelled my auto ship. With 4 cats, I go through a lot of food and do not want to wonder what food I will receive, especially with the food shortage; and then have to ship it back because Royal Canin changes it without notice.
