About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Talk to your vet about your concerns for your pet's GI tract health. Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is:

Easily digestible to help reduce the load on the gastrointestinal tract

Formulated with omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA to aid digestive health and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Keep your pet's feeding on schedule.  Set your order for Autoship to make sure you always have their veterinarian-recommended nutrition on hand.

Questions & Answers

31 Customer Questions

Do you need a vet prescription to order this food?
Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2021
This formula requires veterinarian’s authorization to purchase.

I have 3 Yorkies one was prescribed this by the vet, is it ok to feed it to the other two.
Answer by ChewyJan 31, 2018
Since this is a prescription food formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues, this food should not be fed to any other animal than the one prescribed due to the restriction of specific nutrients. Prescription diets can be detrimental to an otherwise healthy pet if that pet doesn't have the ailment for which the food is designed.

Is this loaf in sauce?
Answer by ChewyAug 26, 2021
This formula has a pate consistency.

Does a full serving of this food provide all the essential nutrients? Or is it supplement?
Answer by ChewyApr 05, 2019
This food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Levels for maintenance.

Needed some assistance placing this order

Thanks to Dave, Chewy Phone Representative, on Friday, November 18, 2022. The computer screen did not provide all of the options available for me to place the order for Bella's supplemental food and medicines. I called the toll-free number, and Dave promptly answered the call. Dave dutifully placed the order for me in a very respectful, effective, and efficient manner. All items were received much faster than I had anticipated with food delivery on Sunday, NOV 20, and the medicines on Wednesday, NOV 23. Thank you Dave and Chewy.

No more belly problems!

I have now a 16 1/2 yr old Shiffon and 5 yr old Morkie. Both girls under 10 lbs. My Shiffon developed belly issues years ago with numerous symptoms and horrible discomfort. So difficult to watch her suffer like that and tried so many ways with foods working with the Vet and different low fat brands, canned or dry. This Royal Canin low fat gastrointestinal canned food changed everything! At 6 1/2 lbs and a ripe old age, she still has a terrific appetite and no more trips to the Vet for belly problems in years. I give this food also to my Morkie to avoid any issues, as smaller breeds tend to do better with low fat through my experiences over the years. They both love it and I’m one happy Mom to see them both healthy and loving life as they should. It’s made all the difference and a true godsend. Highly recommend

Major Improvement with Pancreatitis

My senior dog developed pancreatitis and has been unable to go back to normal food without tummy complications. This food has been a life saver and luckily he really likes it, never leaves any leftovers. He's allergic to chicken and hasn't had any issues on this. I roll meatballs with the wet food and mix it with low fat kibble soaked in water as well because pate isn't very appealing to him. He looks great and appears to feel much better though so it's worth the hassle.

Great diet for dogs with pancreatitis

Hi! My name is Oliver and I am a cute little Corgi boy. My mom says I have something wrong with my pancreas. It gets really sick A LOT and then I get the worst tummy aches ever. Mom also said I have a lot of other health problems, but having a sick pancreas makes me miserable sometimes. She started giving me this food and I was so excited! If I had a tail, it would have been wagging! It tastes yummy and doesn’t make me sick. A can lasts me for 4-5 meals (mixed with HP Moderate Calorie kibble), which makes mom very happy. So if your dog has a sick pancreas, give this stuff a try! This is highly recommended! Thank you…Oliver

Low Fat Food just OK

Chewy delivery was great, timely and priced well. We are having some difficulties with the quality and consistency of the food itself. Our Rottie has inflammatory bowel disease, and he refuses to eat about half the lots we receive. This is also the case when we buy the food direct from the Vet. We believe the pallatability of the food is dependent on where it is made, but we can't specify source when we order. Buy with caution if your dog has a sensitive stomach.

Caused diarrhea

Dog could not digest the corn in this product. Gave him terrible gas for hours. So glad our vet switched us because it is always out of stock anyway.

A regular recurring order was received shortly before our vet changed my pups prescription (expensive) food. Chewy sent a return label for the original prescription food and sent out the new immediately.

The boys love it!

Was having issues with 13 year old yorkie getting constant GI issues- since being on this food he has had zero issues. Also giving to my 8 year old morkie since I like them on the same food- They both are obsessed with it! They bark at me to hurry up when preparing their food... Definitley pleased with the food!

He likes it!

Our very senior rat terrier has recently been put on a low fat diet, and getting him to eat anything has been a challenge. However, he loves this Royal Canin food -- cleans his bowl every time! It's also helping with the recurring diarrhea issues he was having -- which makes everyone happy! Having the food on autoship makes my life easier -- I always know I'll have the correct food on hand for our boy.

Great product and service

My dog recently had to switch to this food due to changes in her health. She has adapted to this food and eats it with gusto. Thank you for this product and also for your quick service in getting it delivered. Tail wags from Ellie!
