*Your cat’s individual feeding amount will be determined and adjusted by your veterinarian during the Weight - loss program.

Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • My two fat cats love this food too much but are losing weight

    By on

At 23 and 24 lbs my two boys were definitely obese so I had to get really serious about getting them to shed pounds and not equate food with love. I tried different diet foods and the only reason they were diet foods was because my cats didn't like them and therefore ate very little.I got approval from my vet to try this food and I was shocked that they loved it. I bought a scale and weigh them every week and they are very slowly losing the weight. It's going to be a long road but it'll be worth it when my cats no longer sound like a bowling ball hitting the floor whenever they jump down.

  • My finiky cat actually eats this

    By on

This is my third prescription for dry food for my over weight cat (23#). She likes treats and dry food that must have too much protein or calories in it. Not only does Shadow like it so do most of my other 8 cats. Since most of my other 8 cats also love to eat this is a good food for them too.

  • This is a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    By on

Finally, there is a food my cats both love. They would eat it all day long if they could. The directions on how much to feed them to achieve the desired weight is clearly posted on the back of the bag. It is easy to follow.

  • Cat's Love This Food

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Even though it's diet food my cats love it. Everyone has lost a half pound their first month. Every other flavor of Royal Canin didn't make a difference. Thank you Royal Canin and my Vet.

  • Royal Canin Calorie Control Dry Cat food is the best

    By on

I have a fat cat. Red is too fat and he is on the Royal Canin Calorie Control Dry Cat food per my veterinarian. I feed all three cats the same food twice a day. is the best way for me to buy Royal Canin Calorie Control Dry Cat food and it's convenient, too.

  • Recent Purchase

I like to give my felines variety, since all 3 are on different prescription diets. I tried another prescription weight loss brand, dry and wet. She ate it but I could tell she wasn’t thrilled. I tried the wet version of the RC weight control. She took to it so I decided to try the dry formula. Just got it today. I was a little surprised at how large the morsels are. She took to it but if I had an older kitty or one that had any gum or teeth issues, it may be a challenge. It’s a toasty texture vs. hard so I think it’s easier to eat. I could tell by the sound when she chewed it.

  • Best food for our overweight cat

    By on

Our oldest cat requires this veterinary diet food because she is overweight and it is the only one that help her feel satisfied; we have tried different types and no one works like this one; however this food takes forever to obtain through our vet so we decided to try chewy and it was awesome! they took care of the prescription needed and we received the food next day! (We wish we would have known this before).

  • Excellent!

    By on

My three cats love it as well as the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet canned food. They have been eating both for about 5 years now. I add about a tablespoon of the canned food to one fourth dry food twice daily. They really are not overweight but since they really like the food, and I have been assured by the vet that they are getting all the nutrients they need, I continue to buy it.

  • My cat enjoys it and Vet endorsed

    By on

My cat needs to lose weight and I was concerned he may not like this new food, but he took to it right away. I suggested this brand to our Vet and she said this was a good brand. I am eager to see if he reaches his weight loss goals.

  • My cats love their new diet food!!!!

    By on

I love that it's so healthy for them. They only have a couple pounds to lose and better to tackle the problem early. I tried another "diet" dry food and they wouldn't even eat it. They love Royal Canin!
