On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Can Food Help My Itchy Cat?

Can Food Help My Itchy Cat?

Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your cat's coat. Skin issues in cats can be due to food sensitivities.

About Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a cat of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

About Food Sensitivities

Signs of Food Sensitivity

Sensitivities to the proteins in your cat's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

Find the Right Royal Canin Diet for Your Cat

We have a broad-range of Dermatologic formulas for pets with food sensitives and skin issues. Talk to your veterinarian about the right formula for your pet.

  • ALLERGY SOLUTION FOR MY CAT

    By on

After allergy tests and steroids & limited ingredient diet the vet suggested this Rx for my cat. It was the solution. So happy to find this! She was bald on her back from food allergies. Once she started this, fur grew back in beautifully and no issues no meds needed. She loves the food and it smells good. I did get her some of the RC Hydrolyzed protein treats for some variety & she loves them too. So happy to have found this solution.

  • Food for allergy

    By on

Newly adopted cat has allergies; trying this food to eliminate/determine food allergy per vet guidance. Apparently is unique in world of special foods; does not have any soy per vet. Cat self switched to this from his old food (grain free single protein food.) Put both in bowl to slowly transition, but he chose to eat more of this and less of the other, so transition went fast. I like it better too; less greasy and smell nicer, almost sweet. Quality fine; price high as are all vet foods.

  • This food works!

    By on

My female cat suffered from UTIs for a couple of years. It would come and go. Unfortunately, when it came, she would pee a little on pet beds and even my bed. An ultrasound revealed she had a severely thickened bladder. This food was prescribed. Like magic, it all stopped. I swear by this food. Relief!

  • Great food for cats who have digestive issues

    By on

By prescription only from Vet. My cat would throw up a lot. This food has taken care of it and she likes it. I still give her regular canned food. She was on Max cat dry before and that seemed to cause the problem.

  • Seems to work for itchy skin

    By on

After trying the Royal Canin HP food, the vet recommended this formula. Seems to lessen the constant scratching and my picky eater and IBD kitty loves the food. The bag is small for this price but so far he has not eaten as much and still seems to be satisfied. Recommend for IBD kitties and those with allergies.

    By on

So glad vet food allergy tested out cat Cesar! He used to have chronic diarrhea & our old vet would just give him a steroid shot & antibiotics that helped shot term but now with Ultamino, Cesar is back to his old self. He's more playful and energetic and best of all.. no more wet poop accidents!

  • Food so far - well liked

    By on

One of my cats has food sensitivities that caused her to loose her fur and come out in non-itchy bumps. Decided to give this a try. So far both of my cats like it. Unfortunately, Unltamino is not sold in Canada. I was very lucky that the border crossing let me bring the bag into Canada - seems pet food is one of the items not allowed in - except for immediate consumption and the pet has to be with you.

  • Impossible to get

    By on

The food works well for my cat's digestive issues, the reason for only two stars is that the food is next to impossible to get and always on back order from Royal Canin. I emailed Royal Canin directly to find out why and I received no answer, therefore my vet and I decided to switch to Hills Science Diet z/d.

  • Cat food that works

    By on

My siamese mix has food allergies raising his liver count. This food did the trick. Liver is back in normal range no throwing up. Only bad thing seems to be Royal Canin can’t keep it in supply so I recommend keeping a spare bag on hand.
