Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

FAQ

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?

We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.

How do I order veterinary diets?

  1. Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
  2. At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
  3. Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Feline Royal Canin Renal Support Early Consult diet

By Judge on Nov 26, 2021

The picture of the can of food next to this invitation to review the food, is not the correct picture. It says "Royal Canin senior" something, not Royal Canin Renal Support Early Consult. Please make sure you match the review to the correct diet. Feline Royal Canin Renal Support Early Consult is the only renal diet that my cat finds palatable. She was losing weight on the other Royal Canin renal diets. She has regained her baseline weight and is constantly asking for more feedings on this "early consult" diet!

    Cat loves it

By SiriusDemonBlack on Nov 16, 2021

This is the food our vet recommended for one of our cats. I was initially hesitant due to the need to buy a whole case and concern over whether he would eat it. Turns out he loves it, and I have trouble keeping the other cats away from it.

    The Kitty Loves This Stuff

By JerrysMom on Aug 6, 2021

Our cat needs early renal support food. I was concerned when the brand he was using became unavailable, and he needed to switch to the Royal Canin. You never can tell what will appeal to them! But he loves this stuff. He can wolf down a can in 10 minutes when he is hungry. If I give him one of the remaining few cans of the prior food, he just looks at me with disgust and whines until he gets the Royal Canin. Every cat has differing tastes but Jerry gives it two paws up!

I’m not crazy!!! My cats are!

By Leslie on May 19, 2021

I was heartened to see others had issues with this food. They seemed thrilled... for ONE day!!!! This seems to be the trend with all the can RC. Rx or not! I end up tossing out 80 percent! Why can’t they make tasty food? And it’s so expensive! I’m sure I’ll try again in a few weeks. Oh I have 7 kitties. Nobody is thrilled

    palatable special diet

    By agn7 on Jul 5, 2021

I am so pleased that my vet recommended this food. My cat needs a special diet but will not eat most of the foods I've tried. This one actually seems to taste good!

    Not Having It

By Mommycat on Jun 6, 2021

Was very hopeful that my cat was going to eat this renal food. He likes the other RC food. I was nervous when the vet told me to start giving my cat renal food. No matter what I tried to add to this food he is just not eating it.

Renal support loaf (pâté) a hit

By RenalSupport on Jul 31, 2021

My cat won’t eat renal support dry food and only licks the gravy in other canned food but he loves, and eats, this.

    The food is fine but

By Hungrypet on Apr 18, 2021

The food is fine, but Chewy never seems to have both the canned and dry on hand simultaneously. This doubles the time and work of keeping cat food on hand and if the order is less than $49, we then need to pay freight on top of the price of the food. We are new to Royal Canin, so we are not sure if this is pandemic related or not.

    Didn’t work for us

    By Kat1 on Jun 9, 2021

My cat liked it for a day or two and now she won’t eat it. So expensive. I wish we had the option to just buy a few cans- I’d pay a premium to try it out if I didn’t have to figure out how to unload this whole case.
