Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Healthy Diet
By Angel on Dec 18, 2020
This dog food was originally purchased for a pug due to health issues but the other dogs enjoy it as well. The automated shipping, plus a bonus if a discount for doing so, makes this purchase convenient.

Highly recommend!
By Heidi on May 27, 2020
My vet recommended Royal Canin Mobility Support for our lab who has arthritis issues. Wow! What a change! Since she has started this food she has so much energy, she hasn’t required any pain medications since she’s been on this food. She is has so much energy, running and playing and acting like a puppy and being active again. It’s pricey but if it gives her relief and a better quality of life without pain meds, then it’s definitely worth the cost!

Best Food So Far
By Jenna on Feb 2, 2020
My poodle mix is my entire world and I am constantly trying to find her the best food. Over the past year or two I have been searching for a quality grain diet that works well for her. I was unaware that grain foods are higher in calories and therefore she kept gaining weight - I knew her exercise hadn't changed but just assumed it was because her metabolism was getting slower as she had just turned 7. My vet, knowing she is a very active dog was confused and asked what food she was currently on; and we found out it was crazy in calories. She quickly recommended this food, which is less than half the calories of what I was feeding her and she dropped 3 lbs within 2 months. My 15lb dog is back My poodle mix is my entire world and I am constantly trying to find her the best food. She has more energy and is running around like a puppy again. Between losing weight, the joint support, and grain I have my dog back and am SO thankful! I will literally not take her off this food - it's amazing. … more

My dogs love this food
By ketem on Feb 10, 2020
I have a mix Roti, 70 pound with LCL problems, and mix Terrier - 60 pound with shallow patella - she had knee surgery two months ago. Both female. Its been 2 weeks with this food. They like it very much. I dont give them other joint supplements. I think we need more time to determine if this food helps their joints.

My dogs love it!
By ZenLissa on Oct 30, 2019
They eat a lot less now! The food seems to actually fill them up. Their coats are getting softer, and shiny! If I sound overly exuberant it's only because we just started using this food, literally, two weeks ago. We have three dogs: Australian Cattle Dog - 25 lbs, German Shepherd - 60 lbs, and a crazy goofy rescue - 45 lbs. We have only used approx 3/4 of the first 17 lb bag (mostly bc we have been blending the old food with the new food so the change won't upset their stomachs.) But so far, nothing but accolades!

Pup loves it
By Diny1 on Nov 13, 2019
My Vet recommended this for my 12 year pit who has arthritis. He is on meds and supplements but we went one step further. This seems to really help and he loves it. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is “chicken meal” but it does include the necessary supplements for joint support. Also it’s expensive compared to high end regular senior food.

My dog loves this food!
By CZen on Oct 31, 2019
We had to switch to the Royal Canin Mobility food after our 5 year old Goldendoodle had ACL reconstruction surgery. She loves it and it's good to know she's getting the added joint supplements to help her heal.

Uncertain how he feels
By Ollie28 on Sep 17, 2019
Ollie devoured the food the first two times I gave it to him. Since then (3 days) he has not eaten it unless I put some salmon skin in it. I am talking to his Vet today.
