This recovery diet is suitable for cats, dogs, puppies and kittens in need of critical care. It’s highly digestible and palatable to appeal to even picky pets or those who have lost their appetites. The high protein level helps your best friend to maintain his muscle mass when he’s hospitalized or laid up because of injury or illness. The food uses dietary fat to make it extra tasty, while also reducing the amount that your pet needs to eat to get complete, balanced nutrition. It delivers that extra boost that can help to get your furry friend through those tough times.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

This food saved my cat
By Amanda on Jan 12, 2021
This food was kind of my last effort to get my cat to start eating after he was really sick. He would just pick at everything else, even fresh tuna. The other thing is due to the consistency of this food I was able to put this in a syringe and force feed when necessary. My cat is excited about eating this food every day, and I feel like it really helped keep him alive.

Dented and busted containers with mold Royal Canin RS
By Samantha on Nov 24, 2020
We are so disappointed with our previous purchase of Royal Canin RS cat and dog food. We found most all containers were dented and found some containers leaking food with mold. OMG I was so hoping that neither of us had fed them with contaminated food. We have re ordered and the newest order is fine and in great shape. This is the only product that my cat at almost 20yrs old can tolerate. I have pictures also. Please advise. Unhappy AHart

This Stuff Can Be The Magic You Need
By DoveRoadSanctuary on Nov 10, 2020
Some animals might not like it unless it is in a mush. I sometimes syringe feed it for rehab animals or old cats that need to gain weight. Even a pound of weight loss in a cat is detrimental! We currently have a rescue (Gus) we saved from the shelter back room that was real old and has IBD. This kitty loves getting the mash every couple hours to keep his weight on. Nothing else worked and he was severely emaciated, being only 6.5 lbs on a large frame. He is now at 8 pounds, which would of been impossible with any other food. He has over 14 kinds of food to eat and snubs his nose at most everything but this. But it has to be in a mash. Our 15 year old hyperthyroid kitty loves this too. It is definitely something that should be kept around. I wish I could get a grant that had Royal Canin, we love this brand ! … more

Easy on Puppy Tummies
By RemisMom on Dec 13, 2020
We bought dry puppy food that was recommended but our pup wouldn't touch it. The vet gave her some of this to try and I now mix it with the dry food and she loves it! It seems easier on her tummy too.

Misty loves it.
By ReadingDoc on Sep 27, 2020
My cat, Misty, loves Recovery. She has gastrointestinal problems and frequently doesn’t digest her food properly. This can lead to diarrhea and severe weight loss. She is on medication but has to eat high grade food. Being a cat, she doesn’t always want to eat what is good for her. Thankfully, she loves Royal Canin Recovery. She licks her plate clean every time..

Kidney Failure
By pickydog on Jul 19, 2020
My old boston terrier has always been picky, but since her kidneys are slowing down, she’s been worse. She also has irritable vowels which makes various foods bad for her. This food is the only thing that she would eat and won’t give her gas or soft stools. She usually accepts it, but even when she doesn’t it’s soft enough to force feed her a bit by putting in her gums. She doesn’t need to eat a lot to maintain her weight. I love it.

My cat was very sick and is slowly recovering with experimental meds and had no appetite!! Tried everything - even baby food, but her breeder had sent me this food to try. So glad to find this and she seems to love it!! Gaining weight back and is playing with her sister!!! :)
