Feed your adult cat companion a specific diet with precise nutrition to help support her kidney health. Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal Support A Dry Cat Food is highly palatable and specially crafted to help care for the kidney health of adult cats under veterinary supervision. “A” stands for “aromatic” and this recipe certainly is just that! This whisker-licking round-shaped kibble helps stimulate your kitty’s appetite. You can even mix it with other Royal Canin Renal Support formulas (sold separately), which come in a variety of palatable aromas and wet or dry options, so you can find the right combo for your cat! And since this diet is energy-dense, it provides nutritional support in smaller portions—this is especially important, since cats with kidney challenges can have decreased appetites. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing that this cat food is low in phosphorus and contains a precise antioxidant complex, fatty acids from fish oil and targeted protein levels to help support kidney function.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Almost gave up hope!
By Jenn on Feb 14, 2021
My 11yr old male cat, Max, was recently diagnosed with renal failure. I had been noticing an increase in his drinking, decreased appetite, and lethargy over the last few months. I took him to the vet and his creatinine level was 9.7. (Should be no more than 2.4). Five days at the vets on fluids and antibiotics they got the number down to five, so I brought him home, not knowing what to expect as they weren’t sure of the outcome. Max hates wet food, he always has. He begrudgingly ate the purina veterinary rx dry food advanced care but literally no more than an 1/8 cup per day. I tried the wet and once again a big no. A week later, he still loves it. Is this the ideal food, I’m not sure. I love this little boy and if I get to keep him for a few more months I will be thrilled. I also give him a 1/4 of a jar of chicken baby food for his meds. Odd he eats this and not wet food but it’s not ideal for him. Right now he is happy and drinks plenty of water throughout the day! Thank you chewy and royal canin! Praying his levels go down at the next visit but if I do lose him, at least his days left will be somewhat enjoyable. … more

Royal Canin Dry Vet Kidney Diet "A" and Chewy Are the BEST!!!
By Imadragonfly on Feb 10, 2021
I have 3 ANCIENT kitties with Kidney Disease. They ALL LOVE the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal Support "A" Dry Cat Food. I haven't tried the other two flavors in dry food since I didn't have to. They all love this one. I know this food is a little pricey, but if you've got old kitties with Kidney Disease don't bother trying a bunch of other cheaper varieties that you'll probably just throw out. Our older kitties seem to get more and more picky the older they get. Royal Canin is a great quality food with a a delicious taste, at least according to my guys. That's just their opinion anyway. And I'm delighted to give up some other expensive makeup and clothing items to be able to buy the Royal I have 3 ANCIENT kitties with Kidney Disease. My Persian only eats some if I entice her
By OpalsPetMom on Feb 7, 2021
This arrived very quickly and was my cat's first taste of dry prescription food for kidney disease. I mixed it with her Royal Canin hairball control dry food, which she loves. She would not eat either of them mixed together. That's why this review is not five stars. She likes to chase treats, so I tossed these kibbles for her. That interested her for a few days. Now she only eats them if I entice her with a new location, which I still do. She tried Hills dry K/D with ocean fish, and she does eat that (but not as much as Royal Canin Hairball Control). Hills is what I'll feed her for kibble, but I'm going to keep trying this one as a novelty, in hope that she'll adapt.

They actually ate it!
By Elizabeth on Feb 9, 2021
When my vet told me one of my cats needed Renal support food I read the very mixed reviews of cats not eating it. For the price, I hated to think it would be a waste. They ALL fight over it, even the cats that don't need it. To the point of having to move where the food is stored because they were opening the door to get to the bag! If you have to buy prescription Renal food, try this one!

Product and Customer Service Make Chewy GREAT!!!
By KrazyKatLady on Jan 29, 2021
After trying for two and a half weeks trying to unsuccessfully order this food through the vet's office, I was desperate. Oreo was out of her food which she needs due to renal failure. I ordered two 6.6 pound bags and Chewy overnighted the food at no additional charge. Oreo had her food in 24 hours. THANK YOU CHEWY. YOU REALLY DO CARE ABOUT OUR PETS.

Two paws up
By Nala on Jan 3, 2021
5 yr old Nala was recently diagnosed with early renal disease after about a week and a half of constant vomiting. She is very picky (only eats certain brand treats, hates pâté) so we were concerned she might not like this food. After a few days of transition, Nala is on this formula completely and gobbles it up. Vomiting is also under control in a matter of days. So happy, looking forward to her next check in to gauge the effectiveness on her disease management.

Doctor review
By Muddy on Jan 15, 2021
I really like Chewy and your pricing !! But, I have two 16 yr. old cats... Muddy & Beau. They have both been diagnosed with kidney problems. Of course my vet recommended a "Renal" diet food. I've ordered the renal food several times with Chewy and EVERY time I'm asked to give my Vets phone contact phone #. My cats kidney probs are not going away, so why do you bother me with Vet verification phone numbers ??

It's a hit
By OSUsue on Feb 17, 2021
Took your advise by incorporating her daily food with this, ended up picking her "used to be favorite" food out after just a day and feeding her only the Royal Canin...she loves it!

Early kidney disease
By Love on Nov 14, 2020
My cat just recently got diagnosed with early kidney disease. He hated the first hard food we bought at our vet, I don't know that he even ate more than a bite. I've ordered things from Chewy before and have always loved their customer service as much as the products. I researched other brands of prescription hard food and settled on Royal Canin Renal Support A. Well, Charley LOVES it! I told my vet and they wrote another Rx with 11 refills which goes to show my confidence that we found the perfect product. If you have a pet ( I'm sure the dog food is also good) that has been diagnosed with kidney disease, I totally recommend the Royal Canin brand!
