Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

My dog loves it
By Shawna on Jan 8, 2021
I was surprised at how fast my dog eats this up given that it's a veterinary diet. I wish human diet food made me react so favorably!

Really satisfies
By Tj13 on Sep 27, 2020
I have used this food with 3 different dogs. They really love that they get more (quantity) and seem to like the taste. One of my other dogs, that doesn't eat this diet, will only take her pills wrapped in the canned food. Super pleased with this diet!

Happy Dogs
By Happy on Jul 15, 2020
My Cavalier King Charles and Jack Russel terroir are VERY happy about their new food. Both are eager to have mealtime and eat quickly and are very satisfied. Our Cavalier has a bit of weight to loose and this new diet has started to show signs of helping. While our Jack Russel is young and fit, the new diet offers her the nutrition needed for an active little dog. Highly recommend this selection.

Pricing of special foods
By elizabeth on Apr 16, 2020
I have been purchasing from Chewy for over 5 years because I had to have your veterinary food for both of my dogs. I have always been pleased with your pricing but lately because of what is happening on in the world your prices have gone up tremendously which is not very pleasing to someone on a tight budget who has to purchase these items for the health of her animals. Please consider your pricing.

Chewy’s is the best!
By SueR on Apr 3, 2020
I was happy to learn that Chewy’s will fill Ava’s Rx at a lower price than my vet. I also love having her food come regularly to my front door; if timing is off, I can change the date online or call with questions. Their staff is always cheerful and helpful.

Can't get enough
By Gemma on Jan 21, 2020
I was advised by my veterinarian to switch my senior dog to RC Satiety Support to manage/maintain his weight and also provide the extra fiber he needed. I can safely say I've never seen him so enthusiastic about his food. I mix the RC canned meat with the RC kibble and he absolutely loves it. His poops have become more regular and consistent too which is an added bonus. Also, I had just received my new delivery of his old (Blue Buffalo) food from Chewy, just days before I was advised to make the switch. The box was still unopened and I called Chewy to see if I could return the old food and switch it for the new. Their return policy is amazing! not only did they ship out the new RC food to I was advised by my veterinarian to switch my senior dog to RC Satiety Support to manage/maintain his weight and also provide the extra fiber he needed.
