On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. About Royal Canin Veterinary Diets - Dermatological Line

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.

About Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

About Food Sensitivities

Signs of Food Sensitivity

Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants

What About Enviromental Irritants

Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

    Great Dog Food

    By on

Our labrador has skin allergies and digestive problems. Finding a quality dog food to manage her health concerns was a challenge until our vet recommended the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Selected Protein Adult KO Dry Dog Food. She took to it right away and within a few days we saw an improvement in her energy level and she's not licking her paws as much. We were also able to take her off other medications she was taking for skin allergies. We highly recommend this dog food!

exotic protein for allergic dog. Works great

    By on

Been using this for a year and a half now. My poor fur baby is allergic to almost everything: common proteins, wheat, grass, pollen, insects.... Luckily, the kangaroo doesn't make her itch or her ears flare up or her skin and paws red. The dermatologist recommended raynesnutrition kangaroo jerky treats as the only thing we use for snacks, so we do. Because she needs a treat. However she does well on the Royal Canin kangaroo. I just wish there was an option for smaller bites. She is a Lhasa Apso, so these nuggets are a mouthful. but they work.

    Great for dogs with allergies

    By on

This kangaroo food has been fantastic for our pug. He has many allergies, and he has done very well on this food. He likes the taste, and the size of the kibble is just right. Highly recommend.

    So far so good

    By on

This is the third Rx food we’ve tried for our 1-year-old golden. Tried many OTC foods prior to this as well. Food allergies are tough to diagnose and treat so we’re hoping this works for her. She loves it and we’ve had no problems with digestion. Shipping was super fast (1day) even with verification of Rx from vet. We love Chewy!

Dog that eats paper towels won't eat this food

    By on

My 90 pound Yellow Lab has allergies and our vet prescribed this food. I ordered a large bag (I know, bad move) because he eats everything, including stray paper towels and kleenex. Well, he eats everything but this stuff. It was a very expensive lesson to learn. He didn't eat for two days after we had transitioned 100% to this stuff. Order a small bag first!

    Allergy Food test

    By on

Jessie hasn’t been on this food long enough to know if he has a food allergy but he really likes it. So maybe in three months we’ll have a better idea if the food he’s been on for two years is causing him itch problems.

Royal Canin comes to our rescue

    By on

We have a Westie with allergies and stomach issues. This food is the first dry food that our allergist recommended. We get all the nutritional value for her as well as it is easy to digest, she loves it. I first started by putting a little beside her food, as time went on she fell in love with it and now I can't get away without putting her a full scoop down. This food is definitely an answer to her stomach issues.

    Good quality

    By on

Loki loves his food. He cannot have anything but due to a skin disorder. Can even use it for his treats and he works for more. Seems to be working as his skin has been getting better.

    Fixed My GSD

    By on

My 6 year old rescue german shepherd was always super skinny, and would often vomit and have diarrhea. I went through many different diagnostic testing, and different food trials, all to no avail. Recently, she had a GI obstruction, and needed an emergency gastratomy. Biopsies were taken during surgery and she was diagnosed finally with EPI and IBD. She has since been on a very strict diet of the KO dry, and either PD or PW wet. I've never seen my dog love food. She goes insane, and will eat a normal amount of food for a dog of her size. It's expensive, but it's a great food, and doesn't make my girl sick!
