Description

Big dogs need big nutrition, so when your vet recommends Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Selected Protein Adult PW Large Breed Dry Dog Food with Potato and Whitefish, you’ll know he’s getting just what he needs. This complete and balanced limited-ingredient diet was developed specifically for large breeds with food sensitivity. It works to alleviate skin and GI issues by using whitefish and potatoes instead of common proteins and grains that can trigger an immune reaction. Glucosamine and chondroitin are added to provide the joint support that big pups need, while EPA, DHA and Omega-3 acids promote healthy skin and coat.

Key Benefits
  • Veterinary-exclusive formula made for large breed dogs with food sensitivities
  • This complete and balanced diet can be fed as an elimination trial or as a long-term maintenance food for sensitive pups.
  • Limited-ingredient formula uses a novel protein, whitefish, and easy-to-digest potatoes to eliminate common protein sources of food sensitivity.
  • Made with glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health and fatty acids for skin and coat support.
  • Dry kibble has just the right shape and size for large breed dogs to chew easily.

Yes! If you have a paper copy of your vet’s authorization, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax it to 1-800-619-7973.

Can I use a veterinarian’s authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?

Of course! We can accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States and Canada—that includes US territories, like Puerto Rico.

Veterinary Diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. If you don’t have a paper authorization, no sweat—once you provide your vet’s information, our team will take over.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we’ll need them to provide us with the full name of the pet’s owner’s name via phone, email or chat after the order is placed, so the clinic can locate your pet’s records when we contact them.

How can I help expedite my order?

Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Create your pet’s profile on Chewy.com.

About Royal Canin Veterinary Diets - Dermatological Line

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.

About Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

About Food Sensitivities

Signs of Food Sensitivity

Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants

What About Enviromental Irritants

Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

    Fish/Potato Dog Food

    By on

My dog has allergies for which I've been giving her the Royal Canin KO (kangaroo/oat) diet. Probably due to coronavirus hoarding, Chewy was out of that, so I agreed with my vet that the PW (potato/whitefish) diet might be the next best bet. My dog likes it just fine, and she does not seem to be manifesting allergic symptoms (it's been over a week), so I would recommend it as a backup to the KO diet.

    Newfie Allergy Nightmare

    By on

I'm a part-time vet tech, and about 6 months back I adopted a 9 year old Newfoundland in bad shape. Double, chronic ear infections, oozing hotspots everywhere, wheezing/ragged breathing, and a dull, dirty coat; I honestly didn't know how long this guy was going to last. First I got the poor dude cleaned up; gentle bath and ear flush, then a around of antibiotics. I wasn't going to waste this dog's time trying to figure out what he was possibly allergic to, so I had my vet run a full blown allergy panel; expensive, but worth every penny. Allergic to every grass, weed, tree pollen known to man? Check. Dust mites? You bet. But the Food allergy panel was the kicker; Milk, Pinto Beans, Kangaroo, Venison I'm a part-time vet tech, and about 6 months back I adopted a 9 year old Newfoundland in bad shape. Allergic to every grass, weed, tree pollen known to man? Check. Dust mites? You bet. But the Food allergy panel was the kicker; Milk, Pinto Beans, Kangaroo, Venison, BEEF, Flaxseed, DRIED BEET PULP, and RICE. WHAT?? So basically any ingredient in any dog food made for a large to giant breed dog. And he is. 150 lbs. Luckily, I can count on Royal Canin to have their large breed selected protein formula in white fish. I cried tears of joy. I immediately got him on this food, which he took to with glee (I could hardly get him to eat the grocery store brand his previous owners sent with him), and after the course of antibiotics, I have kept him on a low, continual dose of allergy medication, with additional fish oil supplements and a joint supplement. He's a completely different dog. His skin and coat are beautiful, his ears are all cleared up, his breathing has drastically improved (but only after we went to the cardiologist and found out there was nothing wrong with his heart - another expense), but most importantly he has become such a HAPPY dog! He goes running and bouncing around the yard when before he would barely move. He readily gets into the car to go to work with me and is now the clinic greeter, when before he would sulk in the darkest, coldest areas away from everyone. And I really wouldn't be able to have such success with him if not for this food, which allows me to keep the medications at a low dose! … more

Highly Recommend - PR/PV/PW Kibble Size included

    By on

Our boy Cash is on Royal Canin select protein due to multiple issues (IBD, chicken allergy & diabetes. We have changed from rabbit to venison to whitefish over the last 1 yr 9 mo. Currently he is on the moderate PW and doing well. I have attached a pic of kibble size since that is a common question. Thank you Chewy Team for your stellar customer service and always asking how the boys are doing.

    What's not to love?

    By on

My dog has allergies to chicken and other 'hot' foods causing him to lick and itch. My vet recommended Royal Canin PW (potato & whitefish) and for the last 2 years this has been working beautifully for him. I just recently began using Chewy and with 24/7 customer service, lower prices, free shipping and speedy delivery, what's not to love?
