About Royal Canin Veterinary Diets - Dermatological Line

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?

Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.

About Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

About Food Sensitivities

Signs of Food Sensitivity

Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants

What About Enviromental Irritants

Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

Great food, buying options not so great

    By on

I purchased this for my dog who is trying out new food to help with his medical issues. My only gripe about this product is how it's sold, in a bundle of 48. If I could get a smaller bundle, say 12 or 24 that would be ideal. We are in the testing phase and I am out a lot of money and lots of extra food if this doesn't help his issue.

My little dog has been eating the Royal Canin food for years. This is the first time we're using the pw the whitefish, I love the consistancy, nice and soft, easier to scoop out.

    Dr. Precribed

    By on

Our veterinarian prescribed this fish & potato recipe dog food for our 9 year old golden retriever/mix to rule out possible allergies or excessive protein in his diet due to his persistent unformed stools? Otherwise he seems in perfect health, active and awesome as ever. This has been quite an ordeal & a pricey restrictive diet for him. After 3 weeks there are no changes. So this does not seem to be the problem, it has been discovered he has blood in his feces, and has an appointment with a specialist for an ultrasound, we're looking at a few hundred more dollars, but he's worth every penny!

    Excellent!

    By on

On a routine vet check it was discovered my dog was reacting badly (allergic) to chicken. Due to a long planned move overseas we had switched her from her food of 4 years to a chicken based formula due to international import restrictions on beef, and pork is poorly viewed in many countries as well. Royal Canin PW is where we landed. In less than 3 months my shih tzu has gained back a pound, her coat is grown in, glossy and healthy, skin lesions gone, no more symptoms. And she loves it!

    B+ Novel Diet

    By on

Texture is a bit gritty and mushy, but my dog likes it most of the time. I may try the companion dry food later if her G.I. tract can tolerate it.

    Prescription diets

    By on

She loved it and she tolerated it very well. She would not eat the hills counterpart, the d/d salmon. She has food allergies and it causes bad g.i. problems. I have to alternate her protein sources and i get three different royal canin script diets from chewy. God bless Chewy for coordinating these autoships; i get fish, rabbit and vennison each individually and she does well and DOES NOT develop an allergy to any. That is because i rotate them. Highly recommend Royal Canin and thank you Chewy.

Made all the difference in my dogs health

    By on

I have a min schnauzer who is suffering with IBS. After much trials with different food that eventually led to serious symptoms, this food was recommended by a specialist. After a month of using this food exclusively, she has never seemed healthier or happier. Her symptoms have disappeared and she has new energy, almost acting like a puppy at 10 years old. She loves the flavor and she has the added benefit of weight loss due to the low fat content. Although more expensive, in the end it will save money with fewer vet visits. I highly recommend both the canned food and the kibbles. It was a real game changer for us.

Our dog has an autoimmune disease and digestive problems. He lost 18 pounds in a short period of time. Since he’s been on this formula, he has gained 10 pounds and his blood work is great!
