Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants
Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.
Find the Right Royal Canin Diet for Your Dog
We have a broad-range of Dermatologic formulas for pets with food sensitives and skin issues. Talk to your veterinarian about the right formula for your pet.

Lifesaver for my dog
By Gisele on Feb 14, 2021
This food is literally a lifesaver for my dogs skin. My clinic could not get the food as everything is on back order. Thank god chewy had it because I hate to think how many meds she would need to be on without the food (lots of meds to contain the skin allergies)

This is great!
By BusyMom on Jan 4, 2021
My dog requires this particular food because of food allergies that caused hair loss. He recovered fairly quickly after this diet change. I normally order this from my vet since it is a prescription food. They were unable to get this size in for me and I was panicking because we were almost all out. I ordered this from Chewy, and Even with the verification needed from my vet, it arrived the next day!

My dogs enjoy this kibble but it did not work for itchy skin
By Farmboys on May 6, 2020
Both of my dogs eat this kibble with not issues. I wet it with a small amount of water for them. My itchy girl did not stop itching using this formula, so we won't be buying it again.

Works great for my allergic dog
By BaeBae on Jan 4, 2020
Ever since I adopted my Maltese Bailey from my friend, he’s had skin issues. First skin infection happened with in a month. He would constantly lick himself raw, which would lead to an infection. From that point on, it’s a visit to the vet at least every other month due to infections caused by the chewing and scratching. I tried all kinds and brands of food with no avail. As time progressed he started getting yeast infections along with skin infections and was constantly on antibiotics and steroids. We took him to a dermatology specialist, did food elimination diets, allergy testing, and found out he was allergic to the environment with 18 different plants and allergens. We took him to a dermatology specialist, did food elimination diets, allergy testing, and found out he was allergic to the environment with 18 different plants and allergens. Since then, besides steroids and antibiotics, we have tried Atopica, then Apoquel, and immunotherapy shots. The Apoquel worked just ok for about two years and it just stopped. This year he had three rounds of infections and three rounds of steroids and antibiotics in 2.5 months. I was horrified and felt so bad for his suffering. After countless searching for other pet owners experiences and how they deal with their pets problems. I decided that maybe my Bailey had been on Apoquel for too long and that he became more prone to infections as that is one of the possible side effects. At the same time I also came across this food. So on 10/27/19 after his third round of steroid and oral antibiotic, I stopped Apoquel, put him on small dose of daily Zyrtec. To my surprise, the Zyrtec worked. He didn’t scratch at all for the next three days. In the mean time, I asked my regular vet to prescribe RC Skin Support and started feeding him slowly on 10/30/19. By 11/07/19, he was fully transitioned and at that point, no scratching or licking at all for 10 days. I was hopeful but not convinced because he had just finished his last round of steroid and antibiotics around 10/25/19 and that can be the reason he hasn’t scratched. Anyway, I took him to the dermatologist on 11/07/19 and the vet said his infection hasn’t fully gone away and suggested he gets a shot of slow release antibiotic two weeks apart. She also said she was surprised he hasn’t been scratching because he still had … more
