Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Can Food Help My Itchy Cat?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your cat's coat. Skin issues in cats can be due to food sensitivities.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a cat of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your cat's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.
Find the Right Royal Canin Diet for Your Cat
We have a broad-range of Dermatologic formulas for pets with food sensitives and skin issues. Talk to your veterinarian about the right formula for your pet.

Ageless Cat
By Milliondollarcat on Feb 28, 2021
My picky cat really loves this food and wants to eat all the time! It's good to see she has her appetite back, but I only feed her the recommended amount. She is ready for feeding time and "yells" at me if I'm a little late! Although she is just under 16 years old, she has begun acting several years younger; in that, she's in a playful mood now. Thank you Royal Canin for giving me my precious companion back.

what a change
By gracygrunge on Mar 1, 2021
this "stinky" dried food is wonderful !!! almost ALL of my three year old cat's allergy and stomach issues have been resolved with this food ... she has energy again.. she has attitude again... with no more fighting to coax her to eat... the only problem i've encountered, is it's availability... seems Royal Canin needs to make more !!

helpful for sensitive cat
By Joyful on Jan 30, 2021
My cat, Eli, who vomits most regular cat food, has tolerated Ultamino well. He seems to know that this special food is just for him. However, when I read the label and see how super processed the ingredients are, I don't believe this food is very healthy or suitable for long term use. I am giving it to Eli only as a last resort. I recommend this only for cats who can't keep less processed food down.

Finicky Cat
By Bkli on Feb 17, 2021
My cat is 15 years old and recently has developed GI issues (mostly vomiting). Many things were ruled out so it came down to IBD. The doctor would like him to be on this food but he will not eat it. He has always been a picky eater so I don’t think he’s going to come around and eat this new food.

This food really helped our cat with IBS
By Jimbab5 on Jan 3, 2021
My wife and I adopted a middle-aged pair of Bengals a few years ago. From day one the female has always had soft, sometimes liquid stool. We tried every new protein we could get, including chicken, duck, pork, quail, buffalo, and even kangaroo and alligator. Her condition would improve but then relapse. After many tests at the vet she was basically diagnosed with IBS or food allergies. Her condition got to the point where she was using the tray every couple of hours and losing weight. After trying many foods designed for gastric health, including some other hydrogenated foods, we finally tried Ultamino. The improvement in her condition was almost immediate. Although her stool is still soft, it’s well formed. She’s put back the weight she lost and she uses the tray maybe twice a day. She is now a happy kitty and has been for the last six months, eating a diet of ONLY this food, nothing else. Both cats love this food. If your cat has IBS, it’s worth a try. It’s expensive, but for us it’s been a life-saver. … more

Already helping in 1 week
By GremmysMom on Dec 24, 2020
My poor 7 year old Maine Coon has struggled with food intolerance from time to time in her life and is extremely picky about any form of food she will eat to begin with. So this was an expensive gamble for us. I'm still in the process of switching the old food out with Ultamino but have already seen a big difference. She has stopped scratching so much, hair looks much more shiny and healthy, litter box is getting back to normal, and her big appetite & more playful side has come back. I'm so happy to be feeding her something that isn't hurting her little stomach and irritating her skin. She hasn't been so happy and playful in months! Her last Irritation from food issues came on very suddenly. Her last Irritation from food issues came on very suddenly. It was really frightening wondering if it was some type of bowel disease or organ failure based off of some scary litter box finds. In our case, luckily, the diet changes are what she needed to feel better. This food does smell a bit funny, but not as bad as what some others have said, IMO. I smell the cornstarch mostly. Both of my cats eat it without hesitation and haven't balked at the new "cereal" they munch on between wet meals. … more

Corn Content
By HappyHipster on Jan 30, 2021
My poor kitty still throws up fairly regularly, even after switching to this food and a steroid for MONTHS. Why is corn, something cats can't really digest well, the main ingredient in this! Really, really not impressed with the quality or the results, especially at the price point and my cat's health.

Royal Canin Ultamino
By Pippin on Jan 17, 2021
I usually have no problems with my Chewy orders. This auto ship contained two of the three bags of food I ordered, and 1 bag that did not match my order. In all fairness they're similar in color, but not size or content. This is a prescription diet, that one of my cats MUST have. I'm now short a bag of food.

Fast Excellent Service
By Janny on Jan 19, 2021
We were unable to get my kitty's special diet anywhere in town. He is unable to digest any 'normal' cat food. I usually get it at my Vet's office, and they have been out of the food for some time now. We found it at Chewy's, ordered, and delivery was fast. On the plus side, Chewy's accepts PayPal payment. Ordering was easy.

Our vet recommended this as a different approach to our cat’s food allergies. It was an instant hit!! We immediately reordered, because it seems to be out of stock much of the time. We dare not run out!!!
