Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Urinary SO Dry Food was developed to nutritionally support urinary tract and bladder health in adult dogs. It dilutes excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones by increasing the amount of urine your dog produces. This formula promotes a urinary environment unwelcoming to struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. This specialized nutrition, with a reduced level of magnesium, can help maintain your pup's heathy urinary system.
Key Benefits- Formulated for adult dogs with urinary health issues.
- Dissolves pure struvite stones and helps prevent calcium oxalate stones.
- Dilutes excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones.
- Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation.
- Helps with constant trips outside, peeing inside the house and dogs straining to go.

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
Why should I buy Veterinary Diets online?
Shopping for Veterinary Diets is easy! Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer your questions and guide you through the process. We offer competitive prices, free shipping on orders over $49, and more savings if you sign up for an Autoship subscription.
How do I order Veterinary Diets?
- Search our website for the diet your vet recommends, then add it to your cart. You can purchase your Veterinary Diets with any other goodies you need!
- At checkout, you’ll be asked for required information. Enter your pet’s name and your vet’s name & telephone number.
- Place your order, and we’ll take care of the rest!
How will you contact my vet?
Our Veterinary Diets team will personally contact your vet for approval. If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we’ll let you know immediately.
Does it help if I send you my veterinarian’s authorization?
Yes! If you have a paper copy of your vet’s authorization, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax it to 1-800-619-7973.
Can I use a veterinarian’s authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Of course! We can accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States and Canada—that includes US territories, like Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian’s authorization?
Veterinary Diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. If you don’t have a paper authorization, no sweat—once you provide your vet’s information, our team will take over.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we’ll need them to provide us with the full name of the pet’s owner’s name via phone, email or chat after the order is placed, so the clinic can locate your pet’s records when we contact them.
How can I help expedite my order?
Just follow these simple steps:
- Create your pet’s profile on Chewy.com.
- If you have an Autoship scheduled, but you’re running low on your Veterinary Diets, contact us ahead of time to let us know if you have a new clinic or if any authorization information has changed.
- If you have an authorization handy, send it to us before you order—by sending an email to vetdiet@chewy.com, starting a chat with one of our experts, or faxing us at 1-800-619-7973.
Do I need to set up a pet profile?
We recommend it, but it’s not required. You can create your pet’s profile by logging in at Chewy.com, hovering over your account, and choosing “pet profile.”
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your vet will tell us when your authorization will expire and how many times we can send before they’d like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills?
Yep! Sign up for Autoship and we’ll automatically ship your Veterinary Diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills, or your authorization expires, we’ll automatically contact your vet for a new authorization. If we hit any bumps in the road, we’ll let you know right away.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the Veterinary Diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We’re here for you 24/7.

Our 15 lb shih tzu prefers this recipe over the Small Bites version
By ShihtzuMom on Dec 6, 2019
Strangely, our 3 year old female shih tzu loves this salty dry food. The kibble is small enough for her, but not as small as the Small Bites version - have no idea what the difference in recipe is but she totally rejected the small bites version, and was happy when I reordered the regular version for her. Shih tzu logic??

Bi-products so GROSS
By Debtheweb on Nov 18, 2019
My dog at UTI and was recommended by the vet. She is on it and will stay on this for a couple of months but the ingredients are just disgusting. I am glad she eats it but I will be buying Annamaet which is what my other dog is eating and the ingredients are much healthier. I am only feeding her this because of the UTI.

Beagle with bladder stones
By CMills13 on Nov 14, 2019
Our beagle has had bladder stones twice and recently had another bladder infection with crystals, which could cause her to have stones for the third time in four years. Our vet recommended this food. Her urine culture came back negative for bacteria and crystals dissolved. We are thrilled with this food so far!

Dogs love it
By Koko on Oct 21, 2019
One of our French Bulldogs had Bladder stones and our Vet recommended this. The stones have dissolved. We are also feeding this to our other two French Bulldogs and they wait for me to put their bowls down. Before they would come and look at the food and go and lay down. They eat like when they were puppies, very excited to get their food. We also put a little of the canned Urinary SO dog food in with the dry.

The vet recommended this for the dogs. They love it. Don't be thrown off by the packaging. Royal Canin didn't change it. The bag will arrive in the usual green color.

Dixies Food
By Food on Sep 12, 2019
I love that I can get my little fur babies food and medicine online, and I love that you can get it usually within a few days of ordering it. My only issue is that I have eye problems and accidentally ordered a 25 pound bag instead of the 8 pound one. So it looks like my 9 pound fur baby is going to be eating the larger kibble for at least a year. Buy over all I love Chewy and am so thankful that their ebusiness exists.

Dutch really loves this food
By Mimi on Oct 13, 2019
Our vet recommended we feed one of our dogs, Dutch, this food because he had crystals in his urine. He absolutely loves it. We are keeping him on it for a month and go for a recheck. If he has to stay on it long term at least we know he won't mind!

Preventing Bladder Problems
By Bingo on Oct 1, 2019
Our 12.5 year old spaniel has never liked to drink water. This habit has now created a problem with her bladder, causing infections. This food which she loves makes her drink plenty of water, thus flushing her bladder and urinary tract. She is now doing so much better!
