Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs.

What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Feline Urinary SO Moderate Calorie is a highly digestible, palatable, complete and balanced adult cat food recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease and who are predisposed to weight gain
  • Moderate calorie content, compared to Feline Urinary SO, to help maintain ideal weight.
  • Relative super saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine. RSS is used to develop diets for cats prone to both struvite and oxalate urolithiasis.
  • Formula increases the urine volume to simultaneously reduce the saturation of urine with struvite and calcium oxalate precursors
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths

On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

  • It's working!

My cat was severely blocked and had to be catheterized twice, hospitalized for 7 days. It was so scary. We didn't know if he was going to be ok without some crazy surgery I really didn't want to put him through. I would've if I had to, but because of THIS food, I didn't have to. Hopefully I never will. Jake didn't like the pate version of the urinary SO but is crazy for this stuff. I add some water to it and he loves it even more. I have to say that I'm generally not a fan of the ingredients in prescription diets. You read the label and think "never!". Before he became blocked, he was on a healthy diet of mostly can food. My cats also have a fountain with a filter to stimulate more fluid intake. I know the dangers of dry diets in cats and feed them appropriately. His body is just more inclined to develop crystals. The "stuff" in this food, despite the other "bad stuff", helps to dissolve those crystals and keep more from forming. I do pour some broth over it every now and then and give him other healthy can varieties in small portions, as a treat. His main diet though, every day, is this food. I can't stress that enough. This food has saved my cat from so much suffering and us from the stress of having him at the vet.... I leave the dry version out overnight when I'm not here. I work 16 hour shifts and he has to eat while I'm away. He hasn't had any trouble with the dry version but I prefer him to eat more of the can. … more

  • If only it had different flavors

    By on

This is doing what it's meant to do: helping with urinary problems. The cats like it. But they get tired of the same stuff all the time, then refuse to eat it. To remedy that, we alternate with an occasional tin of grocery store cat food, just to keep their interest

  • Picky cat or bad food?

    By on

Sometimes my cat eats it and sometimes he leaves it to dry out. Not sure if it has anything to do with the color of the food inside the can but, sometimes the food is light brown and sometimes it is a pinkish color.

  • Dry food tastes better

    By on

We have taken a survey among the twelve cats that eat this prescribed food and have decided that the dry food is more delicious than the wet food version, but we still eat it especially when we are hungry.

  • Love at first bite

My kitty loves this food! He meows at me like crazy when it's mealtime. He's a clean-plater every time. He seems a lot happier & has a good attitude about eating. Great product.

  • Cats did not like it :(

    By on

I bought a case of this food and they turned their noses up at it on the first taste. I will try again to get them to eat it but was disappointed. I wish I would have bought one can first :(

  • Helped my kitty!

    By on

I have two cats, that are brothers, and both have lower urinary tract issues. They love this wet food. I feed them one can in the morning and they have the SO dry food throughout the day. While they enjoy the dry food, they cry for this every morning as soon as I get up. It has helped with struvite crystal formation, blood in urine, and marking outside of the litter box. While this food is not cheap, it is worth it!

  • Great product and service!

    By on

Our cat, Cindy, was recently put on Canin food by our vet. It's quite expensive (compared to Friskies). When I checked out Chewy.com, I was very impressed. With a promotion I had received, I received two packs (4 flats) of the food for less than the cost of one pack from our vet. We are receiving automatic deliveries every 4 weeks. Great service!

  • Happy first time cusromer

    By on

First I have to say, I couldn't believe my eyes when I say the Chewy box on my door step. It seemed like it arrived in a blink of an eye. My cat is responding really well to the new diet. Very happy with the results so far. We have been using for a month now and my cat is much happier and has stopped marking in the house.
