I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Can Food Help My Itchy Dog?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your dog's coat. Skin issues in dogs can be due to food sensitivities and environmental irritants.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a dog of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your dog's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

What About Enviromental Irritants
Like you, your dog can have sensitivities to certain things in the environment such as pollens, house dust or even fleas. Your veterinarian may recommend a diet that contains optimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients which helps reinforce your dog's skin barrier.

These have been great
By PeteysMa on Feb 4, 2021
So I have a mostly white with brown spots pit/boxer who has severe severe allergies. Not only does the poor guy have food allergies but environmental allergies as well. Spring and summer are usually the worst times of the year but long story short he is on a hydrolyzed food diet and is on apoquel. I felt awful trying to "sneak" treats to my other four and leaving petey out. This last time we went to the vet the one assistant brought these treats out and gave him some and he loved them. So I ordered a bag and so far we have had no issues with him breaking out after eating them, so needless to say I'm beyond happy to have these for him. Finally a vet approved treat my dog likes!
By Kacey on Feb 4, 2021
My 1 year old GSD/Cattle dog pup was just put on a new vet-prescribed diet to help with GI and allergy issues. She was picky before, so it's been a struggle trying to get her to eat these new fancy foods. I tried the Purina HA treats and she wanted nothing to do with them. Just got these Royal Canin treats and she immediately ate them, came back for more, then she went to her food bowl to eat her other food which she had been ignoring all day. I'm really glad after trial and error I found a treat she can have while on this diet for a couple of months, because we are also working on training and having treats really helps for that. Thank you Royal Canin!!

Picky eat likes it
By RCdry on Jan 22, 2021
My 8 year old rescue dog was recently diagnosed with something similar to irritable bowel disorder (IBD). The vet recommended this prescription food. My dog is the pickiest eater in the world (maybe because of her GI sensitivities???). I put this food down in her bowl after mealtime -- just to see her reaction. She immediately devoured the whole thing! I was planning on introducing it slowly to her in other kibble while transitioning. However, I don't think I'll have to because she really likes it. I also bought the treats and she likes those, too.

A Special Treat
By Larry on Jan 26, 2021
I have a Welsh Pembroke Corgi, "Royal Hearts Lady Rufus." A fun little girl! And eats everything in sight. However, at first, these Treats were not a favorite. It took her a while to get used to the taste. I'm careful to ration them out, individually. She's restricted to ROYAL CANIN Urinary SO, because of her condition. These treats needed her Veterinary's approval also. Now Lady Rufus and I are glad these treats have been added to her diet. She loves them.

Quality Treats
By PoppyLillyMia on Feb 4, 2021
My Dalmatian was prescribed Hydrolyzed protein by her vet, but she is super treat motivated so I purchased these treats as well. She LOVES them. They’re bigger than I had anticipated, so they take a little bit longer to chew. But I like that because otherwise she would just swallow them whole. Beware they smell kind of funky when you open the bag!

A Truly Picky Dog LOVES these treats!
By SueDsMom on Jan 22, 2021
SueD is a very spoiled dog/child! That's because I am really a Great Grandmother to five little humans.....so it's really hard for me to turn down any body I love ! As a result, SueD (chihuahua-7rs.old) rules the roost! Never know when she'll like something.....Well she loves these Treats and I am so grateful since her allergies limit what I can give her!! Thanks.

Dog loves them
By LoriK on Jan 27, 2021
My dog was recently put on a prescription diet so I was worried about options for treats. I wasn’t sure he would like these, but he LOVES them. It’s nice to be able to give him rewards while still sticking to the prescription diet

Highly recommend!
By Stella on Dec 30, 2020
My English bulldog Stella needed to go on a diet and cut out the fattening treats. Her veterinarian recommended these. I was hesitant because I had purchased a lot of different types of low fat treats in the past and she refused them. She absolutely loves these! And she's lost weight.
