FAQ

Why should I buy Vet Diet food online?

Shopping for Vet Diet food is easy! Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer your questions and guide you through the process. We offer competitive prices, free shipping on orders over $49, and more savings if you sign up for an Autoship subscription.

How do I order Vet Diet food?

  1. Search our website for the diet your vet recommends, then add it to your cart. You can purchase your Vet Diet food with any other goodies you need!
  2. At checkout, you’ll be asked for required information. Enter your pet’s name and type your vet’s name and telephone number.
  3. Place your order, and we’ll take care of the rest!

How will you contact my vet?

Our Vet Diet team will personally contact your vet for approval. If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we’ll let you know immediately.

Does it help if I send you my prescription?

Yes! If you have a paper copy of your prescription, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax your prescription to 1-800-619-7973.

Can I use a prescription written by a veterinarian out of state?

Of course! We can accept valid prescriptions from anywhere in the United States and Canada—that includes US territories, like Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a prescription?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. If you don’t have a paper prescription, no sweat—once you provide your vet’s information, our team will take over.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we’ll need them to provide us with your full name or the pet’s owner’s name via phone, email or chat after the order is placed, so the clinic can locate your pet’s records when we contact them.

How can I help expedite my order?

Just follow these simple steps: 1. Create your pet ’s profile on Chewy.com. 2. If you have an Autoship scheduled, but you’re running low on refills, contact us ahead of time to let us know if you have a new clinic or if any prescription information has changed. 3. If you have a prescription handy, send it to us before you order—by sending an email to vetdiet@chewy.com, starting a chat with one of our experts, or faxing us at 1-800-619-7973.

Do I need to set up a pet profile?

We recommend it, but it’s not required. You can create your pet’s profile by logging in at Chewy.com, hovering over your account, and choosing “pet profile.”

Do prescriptions expire?

Yes. Your vet will tell us when your prescription will expire and how many refills we can send before they’d like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up auto refills?

Yep! Sign up for Autoship and we’ll automatically ship your food for as long as your prescription allows. If you run out of refills, or your prescription expires, we’ll automatically contact your vet for a new approval. If we hit any bumps in the road, we’ll let you know right away.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the Vet Diet team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We’re here for you 24/7.

  • My Cats Love These!

    By on

Our new kitten had tummy troubles that required special food and no regular treats which meant our senior cat either went without or we had to hide to give them to him. I tried these and both cats LOVE them. So happy we found these.

  • She loves them!

Wasn’t sure if my cat would like these. She’s picky. This cat won’t eat meat of any kind. She has feline leukemia, so she eats the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal High Energy Dry Cat Food. I decided to try these treats (same type of formula as the food, bland and high calorie) to see if she would eat them and how she reacted physically to them. She loves them! They don’t upset her stomach like the Temptations treats. She maintains her weight, so she’s not had symptoms for a long time.

  • Cats love this

    By on

I bought this for my IBD cat and was hoping he would like this because he was hooked on Greenies. I learned that Greenies are especially bad for cats with digestive tract issues. The first time I gave it to him he didn't touch it but with a little coaxing to try something new he loves it. He only gets a couple of them before bedtime but the main reason I bought this was to give him a treat to take his mind off of what I'm doing while I'm giving him his Vitamin B12 injection. He's too busy munching this nice treat to notice. My non IBD cat also loves this treat.

  • Best Treats

    By on

These gastrointestinal treats are working out very well for my cat who has a sensitive stomach. Finally, he can have a few treats that don't cause diarrhea. But I can only let him have 5-6 or he does have a slight problem.

My cat needs to be on the prescription gastrointestinal food for a misshapen pelvis. Any “regular” food wreaks havoc on her little system, so I was so happy to find these treats for her. She loves them and it doesn’t mess her up at all. The price is fantastic, too!

  • Our cat loves the flavor.

I have been trying to find a treat that our older cat can tolerate (she has IBD). It is difficult to find a prescriptive treat that doesn't upset her stomach as well as having a flavor and texture she likes and can manage without teeth (poor dear!). This may be it!
