Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 to 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 to 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Works great

My 7 year old tabby has trouble with constipation thanks to years on prednisolone for upper respiratory issues (he has since been taken off the meds but has the same bowel trouble). Since adding this into his regular Nutro food (50/50 split), it's been a complete turnaround. We ran out and went back to only the regular for a week, and the constipation returned almost immediately. My vet recommended this food, and it definitely works wonders.

  • Solution for constipation

    By on

Peggy had a situation where she got constipated due to a build up of fur in her intestines. The vet prescribed three things: Laxatone 1 tsp in 3 oz of canned food twice a day, 1 tbsp of a Miralax solution in her meals and the Gastrointestinal Fiber Response Dry Cat Food. With both the Miralax and Laxatone, she refused to eat the "poisoned" food. However, about a tbsp of the Gastrointestinal Fiber food.sprinkled as a treat on top of her canned food went over well! She takes the dry food treat first and then tackles the canned food. This has brought her back to regularity with results in the litter box each day!!!

  • Saved my cat's life

I have a 15 yr old Manx cat with a mega colon condition. He has been on this food for 5 years now along with eating squash and has been healthy. We ran out of this food once and even feeding him another Royal Canin food caused his condition to flare up. When my vet called and said she couldn't get his food & Royal Canin wasn't even saying when it would be available I panicked. But Chewy to the rescue we had food in 3 days before we ran out & are doing fine! Thank you Chewy

  • Royal Canin Fiber Response Cat Food

If you have a cat that is chronically constipated, and you're feeding dry food.... this one is quite effective. It makes the stools spongy and easier to pass. And my cats will eat it. For wet food, I add a fine dissolvable powdered fiber that is odorless and tasteless. Chewy has the BEST prices, friendly and accommodating customer support and they ship fast. Love Chewy.

  • Extremely satisfied and impressed!

The navigation through your website is simplistic and ideal for the likes of me. The service and fluid communication on the status of the products that I order each time is most amazing as well. In addition when I met the delivery carrier to unload my items, to my surprise the truck was over half loaded with Chewy products for many of my neighbors.

  • Fiber food

    By on

This is a good product. I just wish I knew that I could purchase this product a week earlier when the vet could not get the product and my elderly cat went a week without this fiber product and we could not save him. More people need to know that in a pinch with the vet, this company probably will have the product you need.

  • Amazing cat food for digestive issues

    By on

This food is amazing. One of our cats had crystals and also terrible constipation. Since switching him over to this food, he is a whole new cat! You can tell the difference in his behavior due to the change of his food which has resulted in routine bowel movements. Highly recommended!

  • Finally Soft

My cat has had to have her anal glands expressed several times a year since I can remember. She recently became ill because her intestines were full. An x-ray indicated that she had calcification on her lower spine. This was causing pressure and she had difficulty squatting. Our dear vet prescribed this food about 7 weeks ago. The results have been dramatic. Her vowel movements are almost nor her last checkup showed that her anal sacs were almost normal.

  • Royal Canin Vet Diet Gastrointestinal Fiber Response dry cat food

    By on

Excellent! Solved a serious constipation problem in my 8 year old cat. He loves the taste and had no problem switching to it. He had been ill enough to required Vet hospitalization for several days and a Huge Bill. Now I feed this, always available, and about 1 tablespoon wet food twice a day. I also add perhaps 1/4 tsp olive oil and a holistic tasteless spray on the wet food to encourage regularity..
