Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Fiber Response diet
By Chelsea on Mar 3, 2021
I have an 11 month old kitten who has mega colon and has been chronically constipated since he came to me at 6 weeks old. He’s also got a misshapen pelvis which doesn’t help the situation. We tried prescription medications, miralax, daily suppositories and still had to do enemas every other week. He was having a hard time passing stool, the texture was also very clay like. Once he turned 10 months old we started him on this food and while he still has to has the prescription medication, miralax and suppositories, the amount, frequency and consistency of his stool has changed ten fold. We were worried we would have to consider surgery to help this, which a positive outcome wasn’t even guaranteed I have an 11 month old kitten who has mega colon and has been chronically constipated since he came to me at 6 weeks old. I do wish they made a wet food option in the fiber response line but it’s still a miracle food and highly recommend this to anyone with cats with GI issues. I work at an animal hospital so I made sure that all options were explored to assist this issue when he was very small and we explored all options (prescriptions, over the counter medications, suppositories, etc) and were starting to lose hope that we’d be able to help my little guy. Who knew that starting a new diet would completely change his quality of life! … more

Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dry food saved our little boy Chessie
By John on Feb 21, 2021
Just wanted to express our appreciation to Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dry cat foods and Chewy for helping to save our little boy Chessie. Chessie has for many years suffered with Mega Colon disease and we have done everything possible for him to keep his colon and try to help him live a normal life. Recently, he was so packed inside we were considering having him put down, but thankfully our Veterinarian Dr. Costello suggested we clean Chessie out real good and start all over with this Royal Canin diet. In just about a week the results have been incredible. Chessie's trouble has been improved 100% and his life is much happier now. Saved my 21-Year-Old Domestic Shorthair Feline
By Thankful on Feb 28, 2021
I own a 21-year-old spayed feline who lives solely indoors. Despite a heart murmur, a few missing teeth, and arthritis in her front paws, she's in excellent health. However, in January 2021, she began experiencing severe gastrointestinal challenges, attempting to defecate in her litter box without any results. Twice, I had to take her to my local veterinary ER to have hardened stool removed from her colon via enema and manual extraction. During our second trip to the ER, the veterinarian recommended feeding her a higher-fiber diet (our cat was previously fed a different type of Royal Canin food), and, specifically, recommended this type, Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Fiber Response, Dry Cat Food I own a 21-year-old spayed feline who lives solely indoors. What's more is that she seems more energetic and happy. I highly recommend Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Fiber Response, Dry Cat Food if your cat is experiencing similar defecation challenges. Without making this switch, I fear that my cat would have never recovered from her gastrointestinal problem. Now, I'm hoping that in the near-future, Royal Canin makes a soft food version. Overall, though, Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Fiber Response, Dry Cat Food deserves the highest praise, and I'm thankful that Chewy provides distribution of this specific food, especially in the midst of a pandemic. … more

Stops hairballs
By Ssandra74 on Feb 24, 2021
My vet put my Maine Coon cats on this food soon after they turned 1 and started getting hairballs. We mix half Fiber Response with half regular Maine Coon food. It totally stopped the hairballs. When we tried feeding 100% Fiber Response, they had diarrhea, hence mixing 1/2 and 1/2. With the pandemic, the vet clinic has routinely been out of stock of this food, and their supplier has it listed on back order and can never give an in-stock date. So I turned to Chewy and had no problem getting the order filled within a day and shipped immediately!

Worth the money!
By Becky on Feb 19, 2021
On my third emergency vet visit to deal with my cat's chronic constipation, the vet recommended a change in diet and suggested this specific brand. Even though it is dry food, the doctor mentioned having great success with other cats having the same problem as my kitty. I noticed a difference in 24 hours of my cat eating this food. He goes to the bathroom regularly in his litter box, isn't struggling when he does, and drinks more water. This prescription food is more expensive, but absolutely worth every penny!

Wish I Had Found Sooner!
By Jill on Feb 12, 2021
I have a 14 year old cat with megacolon. Trying to administer meds orally was a nightmare as he didn't like it so was constantly resisting and making himself throw up. After several failed alternate approaches, my vet recommended this dry cat food. Life has been so much easier since! He's regular, not in pain and as an added bonus our 2nd cat (who is 15 and has opposite needs) can eat this same food and it actually helps her as well! This is a pricey product, but worth every penny in our household as we have 2 healthy and happy adult fur babies!

Great Service!
By Denise on Feb 18, 2021
Chewy has always delivered my orders quickly. The packaging is perfect and recyclable. My cats loved the boxes. I had three cats but in the last two years two died. One had a very bad heart and lived ten years longer than the prognosis. The other died of complications from diabetes. Chewy was very compassionate and sent me flowers. I will always remember their kindness when I was grieving. The products I order are loved by cats I have had as pets. I recommend this product if a vet requires it.

Cats love it, and it improved stool quality
By Nycterina on Jan 31, 2021
I have a cat who has had mild constipation and passes very small, dry stools. As a result, she is unable to express her own anal glands which is uncomfortable for her and requires occasional vet trips to get them expressed. I had her on another brand of prescription fiber food for a couple months and it didn't really make any difference for her, plus her and the other cat in the home didn't like it much. I asked my vet about switching to the RC brand and he gave the go-ahead. Both girls like this food WAY more and although I mix it half-and-half with a weight control food (which I did not do with the other food) so that I don't overload my kitty who doesn't have fiber needs, it has made an improvement I have a cat who has had mild constipation and passes very small, dry stools. Saved my Cat
By ChestersMom on Jan 31, 2021
My cat Chester was given the wrong prescription food by the vet’s office. Instead of his normal Royal Canin Gastrointestinal, Fiber Response he needs for chronic constipation, they gave something else because the Royal Canin GI, FR was on back-order and not to be had anywhere. The new food made him very ill and cost me hundreds in vet bills. After looking everywhere for the RC, FR and not finding it, I checked Chewy’s and they had it. The same vet refused to write a script for, “an online pharmacy,” so I changed vets and the new one had nothing but praises for Chewy’s. I Immediately ordered the food. Luckily, after four days on the right food, my cat’s constipation cleared up. I honestly My cat Chester was given the wrong prescription food by the vet’s office. Very happy. It works!
By Marcy on Feb 6, 2021
17 yr old Camille has had issues with constipation for quite a while. Used a salve that worked if I spread it on her leg while she was sleeping or snuggling. Woke her up and she'd run off (cussing). Took a number of applications to achieve results. Vet recommended Royal Canin Gastro (and even gave me a ziploc cause she uses it for her cat so I would not have to wait to start.
