Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

My cats are crazy about these kibbles
By Kittymah on Jan 14, 2021
The taste of these kibbles must be phenomenal, because a freshly opened bag can pass for treats with my cats. In fact, I limit the amount available because one of the kitties will bulk up on them, she loves them so much. I understand that they include a probiotic, which seems to help the second cat, who isn't on prescription food. His real food is all meat, which can be tough on the kitty bowels.

Really helps
By Nellie7 on Jan 2, 2021
Mitten has mushy stool from time to time which is awful because he has very long hair. Also, when stressed he potties in his bed. The vet put him on this food to firm up his stool. It worked within a week. Also has almost eliminated him urinating outside the litterbox. Wd have no idea why it helped with that. I would recommend if you cat is having loose stools.

Helped appetite + digestive issues in 14yo cat
By RoyalCaninDry on Dec 4, 2020
I adopted a 14 year old cat in April and since we brought him home, he’s struggled with constipation and decreased appetite that caused him to lose weight. After months on a twice a day laxative and trying all sorts of food, a new diet of both Royal Canin Gastrointestinal wet and dry food has turned everything around. He has an easier time going to the bathroom and his appetite is greatly increased. He has had so much more energy since we started him on this food, and has become a vocal, cuddly boy! Well worth the investment.

By DrDee on Feb 21, 2021
My senior cat loves this dry food and has fewer hairballs even though she grooms herself a lot. She is thriving on it so its worth the investment!

Cats scoffed it up!
By cyrmpc on Jan 20, 2021
I was worried they would turn their noses up at new food, but boy was I wrong! They love it and puking is much less frequent. Make sure fresh water is always available too. This food makes them drink more.

Our vet gave us a prescription for this GI formula after my kitten had chronic diarrhea. This stuff really makes a difference and has helped him tremendously.

Great Food
By Colin on Jan 16, 2021
My cat took to this food immediately, loves it. He has a sensitive stomach , and he likes Royal Canin products. I’d love it if they made wet food in small cans but it’s only in the 5oz.
