About Royal Canin Dermatology For Dogs

Worried About Your Dog’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your dog’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some dogs.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your dog can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out

Infection

Puppies, older dogs, and dogs that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your dog. These special formulations can:

Aid digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

How many cups of food total is in this bag?
Answer by ChewyJul 23, 2019
There's approximately 4 cups in every one pound of dry dog food. The 7.7-pound bag holds about 30 cups, the 17.6-pound bag holds about 70 cups and the 25.3-pound bag holds about 101 cups.

Does this formulation help combat the formation of bladder stones?
Answer by ChewyNov 03, 2018
This diet is specifically formulated for use as short-term elimination feeding and as long-term nutrition for dogs with food sensitivities. It is not formulated to promote a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. Due to your pet's specific medical concern, we recommend consulting your Veterinarian to see what would be a good fit for your little one's current treatment plan.

Does this help with frequent anal gland issues
Answer by ChewyJun 24, 2022
This recipe is formulated to help reduce skin and GI reactions that may be a result of sensitivities to common proteins found in pet foods.

Answer by ChewyMar 06, 2018

Super fast shipping even though it was RX food, I got it in 2 days. The food is necessary due to health issues with my rotti...she loves the food, and eats a bowl full in about 3 minutes. My other Pomchi is picky and she's constantly trying to steal a bite or 4! My only issue is, it's super expensive...but that's not at all Chewy's fault...but at $300 dollars for about 3 weeks of food is hard to swallow for dad! (That's a case of can food and a 27 lb bag of dry Royal Canin)

Eliminated Dog's Daily/Weekly Vomiting Issues

I usually never write reviews, but I wanted to write about this food because it truly helped my dog and I hope it will help others. My dog Milo is almost 2 years old and had been vomiting up his food several times a week for months. We had tried everything: different food, no treats, no toys/pieces of toys, and nothing was working. Finally I read that a lot of dogs that had issues digesting proteins had issues with vomiting (and, to a lesser extent, looser stools that normal BMs). Once we switched to this food (and broke Milo's meals up to 4 times a day, instead of twice) it changed things completely. It took about a week or two for things to finally clear up (so give this food a little time), but he has not vomited in weeks. It's been a life-changer. We can now give him toys and treats again (in small doses) and he is just fine. Whatever the issue, it seems to have been resolved by this food. If you are perplexed as to why your dog vomits constantly after trying different foods, give this a try. It truly helped Milo and made him feel so much better.

Gained weight, constantly hungry, did not stop itching

This product seems to work for many dogs but did not work for Hudson. Hudson is a 35 lb mixed terrier. for the last 9 mo's I had put him on single protein + veggie dehydrated and raw diets trying to solve the itching problem - which he's had since he was 4 mo's old. At the advice of our new vet, I tried Royal Canin HP. This product took us in another direction. He gained 5 lbs and acted constantly hungry. His body odor changed (not surprising) and his itching did not diminish to the point I could take him off the Benadryl. The product and treats smell atrocious and look like fake food. Chewy was gracious and let us return the second bag that I had ordered. I am switching back to the Nordic Naturals fish oil and Honest Kitchen formulas while I hunt for new solutions (possibly supplements).

great for digestive issues

My rescue dog had lived on the streets and would often eat junk despite my attention. She had loose bowels for months. Chicken and rice diet did not help. I switched food to hydrolized protein and she has normal digestion most of the time now. Also I had a cat with a reactive tummy and it was worth feeding her the cat version of this food to avoid messy elimination.

Amazing product!

This food has changed my German shepherd's life!!! She has Irritable Bowel Disease, which is basically an autoimmune disorder: Her body reacts negatively to protein in forms like chicken, beef, etc., causing severe intestinal distress, resulting in chronic diarrhea. My poor little girl was so miserable. But, apparently, this product uses soybean as its primary protein source, and the process of hydrolysis breaks it down to smaller components that my dog's system doesn't recognize as something harmful. Her gastrointestinal tract cleared up significantly within a few days. And, thankfully, she loves it!! I am so incredibly grateful for this product and the science behind it.

Price hikes

I know there’s inflation, blah blah blah, but this item does seem to have had some significant price hikes. When we started with it a few years ago it was around $100. Now, it’s around $130. That’s 30% more. Did anyone else get a 30% pay raise? Or even a decent raise at all? Maybe the CEO’s. Ha! It is good food for dogs with sensitive stomachs though.

not worth it

Vet recommended this food for my Belgian Malmois as she was having severe runny stools. I did get her stools 100% better with Acana Beef and Pumpkin. Anyway cause I was outnumbered between my hubby and the Vet, I said fine lets see what happens. First day she stuck her nose up at it and went to the bowl of Acana. We took that food away so she only had the Royal Canin so no choice she had to eat it. She was pooping water for 3 days. I said forget this, went back to the Acana Beef and Pumpkin she has firm stools again. I did take a sample to the vet of her stools on the Acana she said they were fine some dogs just dont make cigars. I also had her stool tested and it was fine. So I am gonna give the bag to the vet and she can give to patients. Sticking with what Mommy knows best for her baby. Also my german shepherd wanted nothing to do with it either. I wanted to see if she would eat it NOPE

The “Zipper” part

My dog loves the food, but I spend a fortune on this, and the zipper has broken within a few days on both packages I have ordered. When I spend that kind of money on dog food, I want everything to be just perfect and the zipper is not!

My dog loves it!!

I recently had to start this diet because my dog was experiencing allergies. We transitioned to this food over a 7 day period and my dog absolutely loves this food. I mix the dry food with 1/3 of wet can food. The chewy customer service was fantastic. I had a bag of his old food (unopened) and I asked if I could return it for the credit. They gave me the credit and said, I could bring the bag to a local shelter for donation. I absolutely loved this!!!

Royal Canine dog food

My pug has problems with other dog food so this was recommended by her veterinarian. You have to have a prescription by your vet. She never has got sick on this food. It's a good fit for my pug. Love that I can buy it off Chewy website. Fast delivery
