Feeding guides are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weigh your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Felines prefer this over the other leading DM food

    By on

Our vet gave us a sample of the other leading DM food and our furball wouldn't touch the stuff so I let the other cats go at it and they walked away. I know our one cats likes to eat small amounts of dry food, so I tried this out and it's seems to be a hit with all of our cats, good for our Diabetic cat, not so good our other cats want to chow it down ;)

  • Monica loves her new wet/dry food for diabetic felines

    By on

Monica enjoys her new wet and dry Glycobalance cat food. She was diagnosed as diabetic one month ago and is adjusting to her Insulin and new diet. She really seems brighter and energetic as we proceed on regulating her blood sugar levels and anticipate a healthy life for her, going forward.

  • Passed Inspection with Flying Colors

Was worried about buying a prescribed food for my little finicky girl when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Was thoroughly relieved that my dear little Gabby LOVED this food. She has no desire to eat the food she had been eating that my other kitty still eats. Only thing is my little Oliver wants to eat the Glycobalance but thankfully Gabby gobbles it up right away. I just have to keep Oliver entertained in another room while she eats.

The folks at Chewy were so helpful and responsive. My kitty has diabetes and needs special food. I gave Chewy my vet's contact information for a prescription and my kitty's food arrived in the morning on the second day. Five stars aren't enough! It should be 20 stars!! Wonderful customer service! Thank you Chewy!

I was running low on this food for my diabetic cat (only had 3 days supply left) and I thought I would run out before my order arrived. It arrived in 2 days. Great job!

  • Fantastic service

I could not believe how quick Winston's food came. On Saturday you called the vet and got the RX. Then 2 days later the food arrived. You will also ship his food every 8 weeks and I do not have to go to the vets to pick it up. It is also cheaper than the vets.

  • No more shots

    By on

I have a 19 year old cat that developed diabetes when she was about 12 years old. I gave her glucose shots for 12 months before starting her on Royal Canine glucobalance. The diabetic conditions went into remission and she has not had a shot since. Knock on wood!

  • Cat loves it!

    By on

I had to put my cat on this after the vet diagnosed him with diabetes. He loves the taste and cant get enough. I don't love the price or the fact that it doesn't come in a larger more economically sized bag. I shopped around before purchasing on this site and they have the best price available. I hope it helps his diabetes.

  • Cats like it!

    By on

My vet recommended this (together with the canned) for my diabetic cat. The good thing is, he likes it. The sort of bad thing is, so do my other cats. I would have no problem with the other cats eating it (in fact, they do in addition to their own), but it's a very small bag with a very large price tag. That is why it's only four out of five stars. I wish they could sell a larger bag at a lower price (don't we all)!
