Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |

How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

pretty good
By lori on Feb 26, 2021
This was perscribed for my ragdoll for digestive issues. After trying different types of food to prevent him from vomiting, and Royal Canin has worked the best. I gave four stars because it isn't perfect, my cat still has bouts of puking but nothing like before using this food.

helped with chronic diarrhea
By Ashley on Dec 29, 2020
My kitty has chronic diarrhea and this food has really helped improve his stool quality. We tried numerous food types, probiotics, etc and this specific food seems to help the most. He still has the occasional flair-up but it isn’t nearly as bad as it once was. He also seems much more comfortable overall. Happy cat, happy cat mom. My only issue is this food is out of stock often; I try to order early to prevent running out but even then sometimes it’s out of stock for such a long period of time I run extremely low. This is extra challenging seeing as it’s a prescription food my cat relies on. Also my cats prefer smaller kibble like the fiber response formula, these kibbles are a little large My kitty has chronic diarrhea and this food has really helped improve his stool quality. Fast-shipping for prescription items
By LPTinCA on Feb 6, 2021
Was thankful Chewy had this in stock as my vet's office said it was on backorder. Very easy process to order and submit the prescription and received it a few days later. My cats love this food even though only one of them actually needs it!

My Cats Love Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Kibble for Cats
By Chiwauka on Dec 13, 2020
Our 12 year old cats absolutely thrive on this cat kibble. I give them each 1/4 cup of kibble each morning and they eat it all up. That’s a first for those two. Usually, they have left their morning meal to snack on throughout the day and night. But this new kibble drives them to eat it all at once. The female cat is a plus-size kitty from 12 years of eating most of the male cat’s food. He’s a sleek and vocal Bengal. But now he eats all his new kibble, and since it’s moderate calories, perhaps she will start losing some of her excess weight! I’m so pleased that they both like it so much.

Chewy is the best!
By tlw1001 on Dec 9, 2020
I’ve been a Chewy customer for many years but I’ve never purchased a prescription item from them. After almost 2 weeks of horrible service through Covetrus (the 3rd party “portal” used by my vet to order food online) and finally having my order canceled with no notice due to being out of stock, I tried Chewy. I put in my order and vet info on the morning of 12/8 and got the shipping notification that afternoon with the product arriving 12/9. I should have have stuck with Chewy in the first place instead of trying to support my local veterinarian through their useless portal. Of course in the meantime my cats ran out of food(even the clinic was out of stock) and had to be switched to something I’ve been a Chewy customer for many years but I’ve never purchased a prescription item from them. Of course in the meantime my cats ran out of food(even the clinic was out of stock) and had to be switched to something else and now switched to this again so the stomach upset that this food helps with reared its ugly head but for now, they have a fresh new bag of food on auto ship. All of my cats really seem to like this and it does help with the diarrhea and pooping outside the litter box issue that one of my cats has. It does not help with the random vomiting of my other cat but it wasn’t prescribed for her anyway. So while I’m not sure that this food is the best or has the highest quality ingredients, it was vet-recommended, the cats like it, and it helps with the issue it was prescribed for for my overweight senior cat. Thank you for saving me more sleepless nights waiting for this food, Chewy! I will ALWAYS recommend your company for so many reasons. … more

Lifesaver for my kitty
By MelC on Dec 1, 2020
My 11 year old cat started having bloody runny "accidents" all over the house. It lasted for months. Multiple fecal tests and blood tests left us stumped. A co worker mentioned he used this for his cat with tummy issues so I thought I would give it a try. Within days her stool was solid and back to only being in the litter box. I had her on probiotics for a few months but now she's fantastic with just this food. My only complaint is that I wish the kibble was smaller. My kitty also has no teeth, but refuses to eat wet food, so I end up having to cut the kibble on half for her. Not a huge deal and I'm sure my kitty is a unicorn in that sense.

Perfect for our cat.
By Glojean on Dec 28, 2020
Our cat, Thomas, has an indigestion problem. He was throwing up occasionally and the vet did bloodwork, etc. and determined he would do well on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal hard food, moderate calorie. He has done well. The vet has a hard time keeping it in stock so we tried Chewy.com and it was delivered quickly.

YUMM the food is very tasty
By DustyRose on Jan 26, 2021
So far Dusty likes the food, even better then her original Royal Canin diet. Hopefully this will ease her discomfort from pancreatic problems. The first hurdle was would she eat it ... that has been passed.

Awesome food for cat with IBD
By Jackie on Jan 20, 2021
This is the only thing that helps my cat with IBD not have flare ups and 24/7 diarrhea. Probiotics and medications were not doing the trick so we switched her to this and it's done wonders for her.

Moderate Calorie does the trick
By JonP on Dec 30, 2020
Both my cats need this special diet, but were putting on weight. I was skeptical that they would eat a low calorie version, but they both love it and I'm seeing higher energy in both cats now.
