We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
How are Royal Canin diets preserved?
All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.
Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?
Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?
Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.
How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.
How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?
Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

Bought it for weight loss
By Forgotmynickname on Feb 16, 2021
I tried a cheaper brand for weight loss for months, it didn't seem to help. I decided to check other brands out and found that Royal Canin weight care had less fat. I wasn’t looking to pay more but said if it didn’t work I’d switch again. However, in just a few months both dogs have lost weight and they both love it. My smaller dog that I was most concerned about has lost four pounds and is more active. She can still afford to lose some more weight so I will be continuing to feed them this. I am so pleased.

I appreciate the reliable quality of all the Royal Canin food, and have found that all my dogs like this canned food. It’s low in fat, and provides a healthy diet that is suitable even for a dog who has had pancreatitis.

Healthy and they love it!
By nhaenggi on Dec 30, 2020
As our Dachshunds are aging, one is getting paunchy. I mix this with aging Dachshund kibble for him. He loves it. The Dachshund that does not need attention to weight issues also likes it very much.

Added weight care to diet
By Suanne on Apr 28, 2020
My Yorkie was hanging weight in spite of my trying to help her loose weight. I am disabled and can't always get her out for a long walk. I decided to try RC Weight Career Loaf canned food. She was already on RC senior indoor dry food. Now I have cut back on her dry food added a little of the canned and she now is not begging for in-between feedings. Thanks RC and Chewy.

Royal Feast
By Scottie on Apr 16, 2020
My vet recently told me one can reduce the number of calories & fat in your dog's diet by simply changing to a Weight Care Food or a Senior Food regardless of the dog's age. Since my dogs were already on Royal Canin, I searched & found this diet. I mix it with some small kibble and they love it. Will continue to use & highly recommend it.
