the video doesn't actually show a nail getting trimmed. Is it possible to show a dog's nails getting trimmed so we can see it in action?, and what do you mean (in answer to someone else) by trim top of nail?
Answer by ChewyMay 26, 2020
Please refer to the video below on how to use these trimmers:

How do you actually use the “safety clip” to help prevent cutting the quick??? I don’t know how that mechanism works. Thank you chewy!!!
Answer by ChewyApr 19, 2019
The safety stop works by flipping the piece located on the side, from the down position to the up position.

Can you sharpen the blade
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2018
This product is not designed or intended to be sharpened.

Are there any clippers easy for arthritis sufferers?
Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2018

It’s ight

Not the best but they do the job. I have an 85 lbs shepherd with large nails and sometimes it twists her nail so I have to hold the nail pretty tight to make sure it cuts straight so it doesn’t hurt her. The metal cover on the end doesn’t work well either, it’s either too difficult to twist or after one use it’s completely loose. They feel sturdy but need to be sharper and probably peen the bolt on the cover. Won’t buy again.

At Last!

Finally after going through 2 other pairs by other brands, that just weren't up to par, I found a pair that I like and that did the job well the first time I used them. These are for small dogs and were smaller than any of the others I had bought. I love them! They fit in my hand so good! Not at all bulky or awkward. Seems I must have been buying them too buy! The first cut took me by surprise as the blades cut quickly and sharply, no tug. My old ones were never that sharp, even in the beginning. I hope they stay this way. I have cut 2 dogs paws so far. My dogs are dachshunds but their claws are still thick, especially the ones that are black. For about $10. these are great little clippers!

Nail it

I bought these to replace a pair that I had had for years but were getting dul. Unfortunately these were not as sharp as I had hoped. His nails were rough.

Not sharp

These couple barely cut through my French Bulldog and my Australian Shepard puppies nails - won’t be using a second time

Nice, not that sharp

I was hoping they'd be sharper. I was replacing an old pair that seemed dull and these don't seem to be too much of an upgrade

OUCH!

The handle of these clippers pinch my hand where the index finger meets the palm, causing a painful blood blister. Used it twice and it happened both times. I'll be looking for a different pair.

Really Like!

We have a new puppy so these work great. I don’t have to line up the mail to clip it with my other pair of clippers.

Top 1000 Contibutor

So Glad To Have Found This Nail Trimmer

I purchased this nail trimmer to trim my 35 lb. dog's nails. I had been using a guillotine nail trimmer, but the blade was quite dull, as we had used it since the late 1990's or early 2000s, and it was time for a replacement. I saw these were the highest rated nail trimmers on Chewy. I do not use the safety guard, but they are easy to handle (much better than the guillotine clippers I was using before these) and this trimmer cut his nails very clean (there were no jagged or crumbly pieces). I highly recommend!

Bad pair?

Not sure if I got a crummy/defective pair but these have stopped working! I previously owned a pair that became dull after a few years but were reliable. Unfortunately I bought these replacement ones in May and have always had issues with the cutters locking on me while cutting. Now it seems like only one blade will cut. I've tried adjusting the screw/bolt to no avail.
