Safe Paw Ice Melter for Dogs & Cats offers an innovative way to clear your driveways and sidewalks of winter snow and ice. While most ice melters contain salt, which can harm pets, humans, and the environment, Safe Paw is completely salt-free and recommended by veterinarians. It uses a patented, dual-effect compound that works with a two-way timed-released action. First, it starts melting the ice instantly while breaking up the surface tension, and then it penetrates and destabilizes the ice to speed up melting—all while offering slip protection with a proprietary traction agent.
Patented, dual-effect compound made of a modified crystalline amide core infused with special glycol admixture and traction agents quickly melts ice and is safe for pets, humans, vegetation and the environment.
Liquid component starts melting ice instantly while breaking surface tension and allows the crystal core to penetrate and destabilize ice which speeds up melting. Safe Paw also attracts solar heat to provide extra melting power during daylight hours.
Non-toxic, safe on asphalt, concrete brick and stone, and pavers with a proprietary tracking agent to prevent slips and falls.
Green color is easy to spot and distinguish from other ice melters. Safe Paw pellets cover twice the area of rock salt.
Time-release formula leaves an invisible “shield” that prevents the ice from sticking for up to 3 days. Use ahead or after the storm to make shoveling easier!
This stuff is great! It seems like it works better than the "sand" we get from the town. The picture shows the beginning of a snow storm, and the brown area is where the ice melt had been. The snow eventually covered over the treated area, but I was impressed (and we got like 5-8" of snow that storm). It works best when you clear the snow and ice off of the area, but it will melt ice. I have piled it onto ice chunks I couldn't remove myself. It seems wasteful that way because you're left with a green slush to be removed, but it works. Also, it can be a little slippery, but I think that may be more from my porch than the product; the porch gets slick because it's wet from the melting. I don't This stuff is great! One other potential problem is that it might track little green balls or puddles into your house, but you're going to track anything you put on the ground. My dogs (chihuahua, and shepherd mix) haven't had any problems from the product and I haven't noticed anything be "ruined" from residue. So far the 35# pail has lasted through January in New England, though it has been mild. I have about 1/3 left and I partially treat two porches, including 15 total stairs. The product seems a little pricey but I do want to order again when I run out.… more

I'm certain that this product will work just fine in inclement weather. You see, our local weather was calling for snow/icy conditions. Naturally, I want to be sure that I have something pet friendly not only for the sake of my dogs, but neighbors who walk their 4-legged friends down the sidewalk in front of our house. As Murphy's Law would dictate, if you buy pet friendly ice melt AND prep a snow blower, all chances of snow and ice immediately disappear from the forecast. LOL!! We'll be more than prepared if and when we ever get that dreaded winter forecast again.
Melts Ice and snow great
on Feb 14, 2020
You don't need a lot of this product to keep your walkways ice free. The small round pellets are light green in color and is easy to sprinkle with a plastic cup. The only issue I had was to get the plastic pull ring around the top of the container off. You have to be really strong and wear gloves so you don't cut yourself. I used the claw of my hammer to loosen the strip. Overall great product and safe for landscaping and your pets.
Effective for melting ice on our sidewalk
on Feb 11, 2020
This winter we've had several freezing rains which left our sidewalks icy and slick in temps in the high 20s. I've sprinkled Safe Paw Ice Melter liberally on the walks, and the ice is soon gone. I'm glad to find an ice melter safe for my dogs.
Keeps snow and ice away
on Jan 27, 2020
I ordered this large tub right after I used an 8lb container in one day. It worked great. We had experienced an unusual snow storm. I knew that if I spent the money on the big one I probably wouldn't need to use it. So far, so good! :-)
Lid flies off on both buckets I got, ruins it
on Dec 7, 2019
The lid on this container does not screw or attach on after you open it. Both times that I bought this expensive product, the lid flew off, because winter weather is windy! And then moisture got into the bucket, and the entire bucket was ruined. It didn’t seem to work as well as normal ice melt either. But I will probably get it again because it’s the largest size bucket I’ve seen. I will put a heavy item on the bucket next time. I wish they would fix the design.
I don't know yet
on Dec 18, 2019
We had a recent snow/ice storm and we tried it on some ice earlier today. So far it has only took a small amount of ice on top and it's still slick. We're too afraid to use anything else with our pup. Crossing our fingers it works by tomorrow.
Works Great And No Harm To Dogs Paws
on Jan 30, 2020
I have been using this product for a few years now. Works great melting the snow and ice down to about 12 degrees and no harm to our dogs paws.
Works well, just pricey
on Dec 5, 2019
We bought the smaller size to test this out and it worked pretty well during the last snow storm and didn't cause any sensitivity with our dog's paws, but it does feel a bit pricey for our budget to reorder this brand.
“PAWsome” ice melt
on Nov 20, 2019
This is the only ice melt I have used which does not bother any of my 5 dog’s paws. I have tried many! It also does a great job melting icy sidewalks or keeping them from freezing up. It is easy to apply, a good price with fast shipping from Chewy!
