I’ve been using different arthritis over the counter meds and my dogs tolerance just kept increasing causing them not to work anymore. He’s a big boy and now a senior with bad arthritis he developed from Lyme disease that never went away. A few days he was feeling like a puppy again. I only have to give it once a week for now. It’s expensive but if you don’t have to give it every day then it’s worth it.
I consider my dog to be a moderate to heavy chewer, and upon further inspection, these are labeled as "Supreme", for moderate chewers only. I admit, first mistake on my part. Lesson learned when buying rawhides: buy them by the WEIGHT not the quantity in the bag. To be fair, the bag nor the website specify a weight, only a length and quantity in the bag. Fair enough, I wasn't deceived. I didn't pay close enough attention. I base my opinion solely on the fact that my 9 month old Doberman (85 lbs) had one end off and gone within 5 minutes. Total length of chew = 30 minutes, and he wasn't really even trying. That's a new record for him....and not in a good way. No comments on the nutritional quality of the rawhide or after effects on his digestive system.....I'm so disappointed in the (lack) of longevity with these, I didn't wait to write a review. Interestingly, Chewy doesn't carry the 'Pressed' variant of this brand, recommended for Heavy Chewers. My opinon: these are worth half what I paid, by weight alone, and I wouldn't be half as upset, if they didn't last half as long as similarly sized rawhides. Perhaps their value is in the premium nature of the US sourced hides, I don't know.
I am still unsure about chemicals to strip hide off during processing but my dogs don’t care.
