Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again.
The ScoopFree Covered Automatic Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box is the self-cleaning box that you can leave alone for weeks at a time. Simply plug in the box and watch it work. The automatic rake system sweeps waste into the covered compartment 5, 10 or 20 minutes after your cat uses the litter box, with a timer that will reset if the safety sensors detect your cat has re-entered the box. The health counter lets you track how many times your cat has used the litter box to quickly identify possible health problems. A privacy hood keeps the litter in the box, and it comes with one tray of special crystal litter to get you started—and it’s five times more effective at reducing odor than clay or clumping litters! It’s literally a breath of fresh air at all times.
Key Benefits- Self-cleaning automatic rake system cleans entire box 20 minutes after your cat goes to the bathroom. The rakes moves waste into a separated closed waste compartment for superior order control.

- This product has been rigorously tested at manufacture's labs for more than 100,000 cycles without failure or jamming.
- Extremely efficient as this system uses 5 to 10 times less litter than clay and clumping litter.

Transition Instructions
Most cats adapt easily to ScoopFree boxes and use it within a week. If your cat needs help adjusting, try these tips:
- Leave your cat's old litter box next to the ScoopFree box.
- Add a few handfuls of your cat’s old litter to the ScoopFree litter tray and add a few handfuls of the ScoopFree crystal litter in your cat's old litter box.
- Stop cleaning the old litter box. As the old litter becomes more shallow and dirty, your cat should start using the cleaner ScoopFree box.
- If your cat is startled by the raking noise, turn off the ScoopFree box and scoop waste manually for a few days until your cat is used to the new box.
If you have a kitten under 6 months old, we recommend leaving the box unplugged and scooping waste manually. You can start getting her used to using the litter box with these tips.
- Kittens have a natural reflex to use the bathroom after eating, playing, or napping. Put your kitten in the litter box after these activities to help her associate the litter tray with the instinct.
- Place the litter box away from the food and water bowl. Cats prefer not to use the bathroom near where they eat and drink.
- Put the litter box in a quiet, visible place where she can get to it quickly. Getting all the way across the house to find the litter box could result in accidents. The location should also be safe and quiet so your kitten won't be startled or distracted.
- Keep the box clean. Scoop waste often and change the litter tray every few weeks. Cats and kittens prefer a clean box.
- Stir the litter crystals once a week to distribute saturated crystals. Kittens pee more often than adult cats, so the litter box will get dirty more quickly.
Troubleshooting
Indicator light is flashing rapidly, and rake is at home position.
- Check if waste trap is full. If so, replace litter tray.
- Check for obstructions and remove if necessary.
- Make sure magnets on waste cover are properly attached to litter tray. If not, lift waste cover and lower it back down; you should hear a “click” when correctly attached to the tray.
- Make sure waste trap cover is properly installed.
- Ensure litter box is level and seated properly on litter tray.
- Ensure litter is evenly distributed. Never add extra litter.
- Unplug the litter box and wait a few seconds. Plug the litter box in again. When the rake returns to the home position, the indicator light will glow solid green.
Indicator light is flashing rapidly (8 times per second), and rake is stopped several inches away from the home position.
- Check for any obstructions behind the rake. If so, unplug the litter box and remove obstruction. Wait a few seconds.
- Plug the litter box in again. The rake should return to the home position and the indicator light will turn on solid green.
Indicator light is flashing medium (4 times per second), and system will not rake after the countdown time elapses.
- Check to see if the detection sensors are obstructed.
- Unplug box and clear any litter or waste that may have collected on the sensors. After cleaning, plug it back in.
- When the rake returns to the home position, the indicator light should turn on solid green.
Magnets on waste trap cover do not attach to litter tray.
- Waste trap cover may not be properly installed. See “Care and Cleaning” page 13 to remove and reinstall waste trap Cover.
- Then press down on waste trap cover or lift waste trap on litter tray until you hear a click, indicating magnets have attached to the tray.
Litter box frame is not level on litter tray. The litter box should rest on the litter tray when installed, not on the floor. Make sure the litter box is completely level on the litter tray (see “Litter Tray Installation ” page 8).
Can ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box be used with multiple cats? ScoopFree was designed for use with one or two cats. If you have more than two cats, it is recommended to have at least one litter box for every two cats.
How big are the litter trays? Litter trays are 22” x 14-1/2” x 2-1/2”. ScoopFree Sensitive White Crystal Litter Trays do not include lids and can be nested, allowing them to be stored in a smaller space.
How big is ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box? The ScoopFree litter bed measures 14” W x 15-1/2” L, and the exterior litter box dimensions are 19-1/8” W x 27-5/8” L x 6-3/8” H. The height is 16” with the optional hood installed (the Ultra comes with the privacy hood).
How will I know when to change the litter tray?
You should change the litter tray when either of the following occurs:
- The crystal litter is saturated. As the crystals absorb urine, the litter will start to turn yellow. Once the majority of the litter turns yellow, the crystals are nearing their saturation point. When the crystals can no longer absorb any more moisture, you may start to notice an odor from the urine.
- The waste trap is full. When the waste trap is full, the waste trap cover will not close completely. You may see small pieces of solid waste sticking out from underneath the lid. You may also start to notice an odor from the solid waste.
See “Maximizing Litter Tray Life” page 13 to help get the most life from the Disposable Crystal Litter Trays.
What if my cat goes back into the box soon after it’s been used? The rake will not clean if a cat is in the litter box because it will be obstructing the detection sensors. The countdown timer will reset itself and the rake will begin to clean 20 minutes (or 5, 10, or 20 if you have ScoopFree Ultra) after your cat leaves the litter box again.
What is the difference between ScoopFree Original and Ultra?
ScoopFree Ultra functions like the ScoopFree Original with three added features:
- Privacy hood gives your cat a private bathroom while helping keep the crystal litter properly contained. (The privacy hood can be purchased separately for use with the ScoopFree Original. See “Replacement Parts and Accessories” page 16.)
- Adjustable rake timer allows you to choose if the automatic rake sweeps waste 5, 10, or 20 minutes after your cat uses the litter box. (The ScoopFree Original waits 20 minutes.)
- Health counter tracks the frequency of your cat’s litter box usage to help alert to possible health issues.
What are the differences among the Original Scent Blue Crystal Litter Tray, Lavender Scent Crystal Litter Tray, and the Sensitive White Crystal Litter Tray?
- The Original Scent Blue Crystal Litter Tray comes pre-filled with crystal litter with a light Fresh Clean scent. The Lavender Scent Crystal Litter Tray is pre-filled with crystal litter with a light, soothing lavender scent. Both litter trays include a lid. When the tray is ready to be replaced, simply cover it and toss it in the trash.
- The Sensitive White Crystal Litter Tray is made from recycled materials (paper with no bleach added) and comes pre-filled with crystal litter free of perfumes and dyes which is perfect for sensitive cats or owners. Sensitive White Crystal Litter Trays do not come with a lid so the trays nest, making them easier to stack and store in small spaces. A drawstring bag is included for easy disposal.
- The crystal litter for all litter trays have been tested independently and performs the same. The crystal litter absorbs urine and dries solid waste quickly to remove odors.

Take a Break From Litter Duty
PetSafe's ScoopFree Automatic Litter Box lets you take a break from scooping—for good. This self-cleaning system rakes through the litter, pushing waste into a covered trap at one end of the tray. Odors and liquid waste are absorbed by the quick-drying crystal litter. And you can rest easy, because your days of endless scooping are over.

Fresh and Clean Every Time
Every time kitty needs to go, she'll step into a dry, freshly cleaned litter box—the kind cats prefer. The motorized rake sweeps new waste into the covered compartment, waiting 20 minutes after your cat uses the box so she won't be startled. Because it's automatic, the ScoopFree box stays clean for weeks at a time. One tray lasts 20-30 days before needing to be replaced, for single-cat homes.
3 Simple Steps

1. Load It
Lift the box and slide a disposable litter tray underneath. It only takes a minute!

2. Leave It
ScoopFree automatically rakes the waste into a covered trap, so you can relax.

3. Toss It
Replace the soiled tray every few weeks with a fresh one.
Fast-Drying Crystals for Odor Control
The blue silica crystals in each disposable tray are five times more effective at odor reduction than clay or clumping litters. Liquids are trapped by the leakproof liner, and the crystals work fast to absorb them on contact. A dry litter box is less prone to bacterial growth—and the smell that comes with it.

Waste of money
By Marion on May 10, 2022
Unfortunately this thing did not work for us at all. I'm giving it one star for the silent operation and another for the low-key design. But that's pretty much it. The rest of our experience was awful. For the context, we have one senior cat and we used a covered litter box with pine litter before. Scooping the poop on demand and replacing the litter once a week worked for us. First of all, the crystal litter is horrible. It's messy, it spreads all over the house and crunches under my feet wherever I go. But the worst part is THE SMELL. Seriously I have no idea how it can possibly last for a week or even a day. After just a couple of uses the smell of the urine was totally unbearable. And the Unfortunately this thing did not work for us at all. And the hood didn't help at all because there is a large opening on the front side and no door. My whole house stank of ammonia on the very first day. The rake didn't do a great job, too. The poop kept sticking to the rake and I had to disassemble the whole thing and clean it with an old toothbrush while wearing a pair of gloves. Never had to do anything like that before and it's definitely not something I expected from a "self-cleaning" device. The whole construction in general is flimsy and ridiculous. You cannot lift it up or easily move around because the litter box is not attached to the bottom tray. The advertised "self-cleaning" feature which makes this device worth $200 literally just means that the poop is being shoved under a free hanging piece of carton. Do not recommend. … more

Story of The Creature of Habit and the OCD Diva
By TBTMom on Apr 3, 2022
It took 10 days to get my cats to start using this. It was total refusal, their litter box was DISGUSTING, so I went cold turkey with them, took the old litter box out, and they started using it with no problem. I should have ignored all the warnings and instructions, and just swapped out the darn thing with the old one like I always do when I change litter boxes. But all those warnings gave me visions of cat pee on the carpet, so I tried the method of easing into things. I think that was a big mistake in my case. Personally, I'd recommend going cold turkey when you make the switch if you've done it successfully before. ...I looked at several different styles of automatic boxes, and I It took 10 days to get my cats to start using this. Personally, I'd recommend going cold turkey when you make the switch if you've done it successfully before. ...I looked at several different styles of automatic boxes, and I settled on this one in the end. I'm not crazy about the high cost of the litter, but in reading the reviews, this one seems to have the longest life on the litter, so that was the deciding factor for me. I only have a couple of days of use, (my counter is up to 7) but it seems to be working great. It's amazing how wonderful it is not to have to clean the litter box twice a day!! So far there is no odor, and with the 20 minute timer, there hasn't been a cat encounter with the moving rake. I'm not sure what will happen if one of the cats goes to use the litter box and the rake is moving. I know it won't start up if they're in there, which is good, but I hope if they see it moving it doesn't scare them away for life! The only thing I don't like about this model, is that in order to see into the collection chamber, you have to take off the lid and you have to peer under the "trap door" where the poop is hiding to see how much there is. It's a bit of a hassle, but I think after I use it for a while, I'll have a better feel for when the litter needs to be changed. I'm still on the learning curve with that. Bottom line -- Yes, I FINALLY like this litter box now that the Diva and the Creature are using it. And, I am going to give it another week or so, and probably order a second one to replace the Diva's private litter box with the same new model. And there will be no "break in" period, she will go cold turkey. … more

Life changing!!
By Jake on Apr 14, 2022
Was very nervous about getting this, but it is truly life changing!! So great not to scoop everyday! I have 3 cats so bought 2 of them-so far so good. One lasted about 7-10 days (starts to stink), so hope to get 2 weeks out of 2 of them

Best purchase EVER
By Heather on Mar 1, 2022
Still going strong!! I’ve had up to two cats using this cat box and cleaned it about every 7 days. I Currently only have one kitty and we can get by over two weeks. Crystal litter is KEY- I’ve tried cheaper litters but the crystals work the best. Also purchased the plastic reusable tray and it wipes out easy. Don’t plan on switching and I’ve been a cat owner for 20 years.

LOVE this litter box!
By Kate on Jan 27, 2022
This box is SO worth the investment, especially compared with the price of other self-cleaning litter boxes. Luckily, my cat was already using crystal litter, so he transitioned to this no problem. I have literally never noticed an odor, either from stool or that acrid ammonia smell from too much urine. I never even see the solid waste, and I just check inside periodically and change out the whole tray when the crystals start to look urine-y. No scooping, and no trying to hold open a trash bag while you pour the dirty litter into it. I got this to clean up less poop...well...
By LuDe on Mar 1, 2022
I'm not into cats, but my daughter gave me the puppy dog eyes and I couldn't say no. I quickly got online and looked for self-cleaning litter boxes. Who wants to scoop cat poop every day...not me. I read the reviews and ultimately decided to give this litter box a try. Worst decision of my life. Now, I don't know if my cat is just gross or if all cats poop this much, but the comb/forks/whatever you want to call them is not doing the job. They are supposed to automatically move to shovel the poop into a hidden compartment and that works correctly. However, when it goes back to reset itself, it brings the poop with it... It squishes it into the combs and gets all over. Moral of the story, if you I'm not into cats, but my daughter gave me the puppy dog eyes and I couldn't say no. LOVE this litter box
By Jess on Apr 5, 2022
We have it in a closet in our entry way and there is no ongoing smell. You can tell right when she uses it but then the smell is gone. It is so nice not to have to worry about cleaning it every day.

Sorry we waited so long

Sorry we waited so long, we have three cats and the odorous come pretty quick, first day that we had this set up they started using it and it was a miracle there was no odor no smell you couldn’t see any poo because it was raked away by The litter box not us wonderful we now have two! The only drawback is we had to buy $50 plastic bottom instead of using the refills with cardboard because of cost.

More cleanup
By Messy on Feb 12, 2022
I was hoping this would be great. I spend more time scooping and cleaning this than a regular litter box. The litter doesn’t last a week. The idea is great but it just doesn’t work for me. It’s to small for my 13 pound cat. He makes a mess of the sides and rake. May be ok for a small cat. I really wanted it to work. For the cost of this it should be easier to clean. Disappointed

Don't recommend.
By Danny on Feb 10, 2022
In my experience the rake would continue to get stuck and got filthy prety quickly, which honestly created more work than just a normal cat box in my opinion. I switched back to regular litter and a normal cat box after having this box for some time. The litter itself remained pretty clean, but it really is more trouble cleaning the rake and other parts than it is just cleaning a regular cat box.
