Keep your feline friend’s litter box and your home smelling fresh and clean with ScoopFree Blue Crystal Cat Litter. Shipped in two conveniently proportioned bags that are specifically designed to fill the ScoopFree Reusable Cat Litter Tray, this premium-quality litter can also be used in any standard litter pan. ScoopFree’s original blue crystals cat litter features a light, fresh scent to help control odor better than traditional clay or clumping litter. This long-lasting formula uses up to five times less litter than traditional litters, so a single bag can last up to 30 days in a one-cat household!

Key Benefits
  • Quickly absorbs urine and dries solid waste for odor control that’s five times better than clumping clay litters.
  • Long-lasting formula uses up to five times less litter than clay or clumping; one bag contains 4.5 pounds of litter and can last up to 30 days in a single-cat household.
  • ScoopFree’s original blue crystals feature a light, fresh scent to help control tough litter box odors.
  • Low-tracking and 99% dust-free crystals won’t stick to kitty’s paws so your home stays clean and litter-free.
  • Perfectly proportioned for use in the PetSafe ScoopFree Reusable Cat Litter Tray, but can also be used in any standard litter pan.
Precautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain Toxoplasma gondii—a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Pregnant or nursing women, as well as children and anyone with a weakened immune system, should avoid handling used cat litter. Always handle litter in a ventilated area to avoid inhalation. Keep contents and packaging out of reach of children and pets. Seek medical help in case of accidental ingestion.

Instructions
  • Place the ScoopFree litter box away from areas of high humidity, such as bathrooms, showers, and basements. Since the crystal litter controls odor by absorbing moisture, having extra moisture in the air will shorten the life of the tray. Try placing it in a room with moving air to pull away moisture, like a room with a fan.
  • If your cat consistently urinates in the same spot, try stirring the crystals occasionally to help distribute saturated crystals.
  • Cats with diets that are high in crude fiber and ash content will produce more solid waste, which can prematurely fill the waste trap. Consider changing your cat’s diet to a food with no byproducts or fillers.

Additional Instructions

  • Only dispose of used cat litter in trash. Do not flush, bury or dispose of it outdoors, in gutters or storm drains to avoid environmental contamination.
  • Not for internal use. Not meant for use as compost or as a traction aid.

Transition Instructions

Most cats adapt easily to ScoopFree boxes and use it within a week. If your cat needs help adjusting, try these tips:

  • Leave your cat's old litter box next to the ScoopFree box.
  • Add a few handfuls of your cat’s old litter to the ScoopFree litter tray and add a few handfuls of the ScoopFree crystal litter in your cat's old litter box.
  • Stop cleaning the old litter box. As the old litter becomes more shallow and dirty, your cat should start using the cleaner ScoopFree box.
  • If your cat is startled by the raking noise, turn off the ScoopFree box and scoop waste manually for a few days until your cat is used to the new box.

If you have a kitten under 6 months old, we recommend leaving the box unplugged and scooping waste manually. You can start getting her used to using the litter box with these tips.

  • Kittens have a natural reflex to use the bathroom after eating, playing, or napping. Put your kitten in the litter box after these activities to help her associate the litter tray with the instinct.
  • Place the litter box away from the food and water bowl. Cats prefer not to use the bathroom near where they eat and drink.
  • Put the litter box in a quiet, visible place where she can get to it quickly. Getting all the way across the house to find the litter box could result in accidents. The location should also be safe and quiet so your kitten won't be startled or distracted.
  • Keep the box clean. Scoop waste often and change the litter tray every few weeks. Cats and kittens prefer a clean box.
  • Stir the litter crystals once a week to distribute saturated crystals. Kittens pee more often than adult cats, so the litter box will get dirty more quickly.
FAQ

What are ScoopFree litter crystals made of?

The blue crystal litter is made of a silica gel. The crystals are non-toxic and perfectly safe for people and animals if eaten accidentally. Silica gel is an inert substance that’s mined from the earth. A derivative of silica gel is used in many powered drinks and soups as an anti-clumping agent. If your pet eats a couple of crystals or small bites of litter, he should be perfectly fine. Just provide your pet with water. The crystals will pass through his system. However, you should make sure your pet doesn't eat a large amount of litter. Contact your vet if you notice any changes in your pet's behavior or health or if you suspect your pet has eaten more than a few bites of any type of litter at one time. If your dog often tries to eat your cat's litter, you can take extra steps to keep your dog out of the litter box.

    Good litter

    By on

So I have 4 cats and this litter does a great job of keeping the smell at bay. Course if they don't cover the poop, then yes you are going to get the poopy smell. The litter does track out of the box, which goes against what they say. So it's always a bit of a maintenance chore to keep the litter from infiltrating the house unless I vacuum pretty much daily. It's easy to scoop and swishing around the litter takes care of the urine in the litter very well. Overall, very satisfied.

    economical alternative

    By on

the box is quite moisture proof. When I saw this option I scraped out the old crystals on a used box and the box was completely reusable after a day or two of drying. The moisture did not penetrate the white liner. I have yet to determine how often the boxes can be reused. The crystals cut the cost of this in half.

    FINALLY the BEST

    By on

We have 3 cats in a 1100 sq ft condo plus a large 75 lb dog. So I'm always battling hair and smells, esp the litter box. I think I've tried literally every variety of litter, sizes of litter boxes, you name it. I initially really liked the natural walnut clumping kind, but it still started to smell horrid within a couple of days. Plus it was a lot of bending and scooping plus dragging heavy bags around (I have a bad back, had my lumbar fused in 2013 and need another surgery again so the heavy bags/bending are a big deal to me). The final product I'd not tried is the crystal and I noticed at the local animal shelter, that's what they use and there is literally 0 urine/litter box smell. And I'm talking in rooms that have 40-50 cats each. NO SMELL. So I gave it a shot and it's saved my back and we now also (finally!) have NO SMELL. It's outstanding and no joke, life changing. Small bags, easy to deal with and lightweight. Scoop and flush the poop and stir the crystals daily. As soon as they start to get clumpy (that's usually 5-7 days for us with 3 cats) I dump the whole thing and easily pour in a fresh batch. No scooping pee clumps while recycling the remainder that just continually smells worse day after day - I'M OVER IT. I swear that this crystal stuff is the best invention for cat owners EVER. Seriously amazing. … more

Great product, have an automatic litter box for a very big cat and it lasts up to 3-4 weeks unless we go away for some reason then it needs changing a little more frequently! Saves a lot of work in the long run.

Less dust and no cloying perfume odor.

    By on

This is my first experience with this product and I will purchase it again; my cat seems to track less out of the litter box, there was much less dust (compared to a clay-based clumping litter, and it does not have a perfumey odor.

    works extremely well

    By on

I have one cat. I change the crystals about every three weeks and I use a top down litter box. Tracking has virtually ceased. Plus taking the litter to the trash is so much better than lugging over 20 lbs of the clumping stuff. I don’t detect any odor. Too much stirring will kick up powder so you have to be careful. An added plus is poop is in high contrast to the blue so you don’t have to go digging. Highly recommended.

    Not happy with this product

    By on

Scooping is easier that lifting the side compartment to dig out the “clumps” every 2 to 3 days...and the blue “dirt” smells! Breeze pellets are far superior

    Not as i expected

    By on

Although this product is crystals, it does not meet what i expected or works as well as it is described. My cat uses it, however it does not mask the scent at all. I tried this because i could order it over the phone, but i will go back to a previous brand that works awesome and my cat loves

Dustless, odorless & easier to clean

    By on

My car was diagnosed with asthma. I've cured her wheezing fits with herbs, and now i'm looking at causes. I suspect her litter box & have been experimenting w dustless brands. After a week with blue crystals, im impressed. No ammonia odor, no clumps to scrape up from the bottom, zero tracking that I can see, only a few dried-up poops to scoop, done. Since I dont smell or see urine, im giving this box another week. It seems safer, easier, simpler, more lightweight. Thanks, Chewy, for carrying this item, which is not in my local supermarket.

    Love as secondary litter

    By on

I have 3 adult cats. I keep one regular-sized and one jumbo litter box. I put this litter only in the regular-sized box because my cats do not really like the feeling of this litter. 1 pack fills the whole regular-sized box and maybe I need 4 to fill the jumbo one (both Frisco brand from Chewy). The best thing about this litter is probably that you do not need to scoop all the clumps. It almost saved my wrist! Though my cats seem not to enjoy stepping on this, all of them use this regularly and this litter conceals odor very well. I only changed the litter after 2 months, and it was not because of the odor but because it started to clump and turned yellow and little gross (maybe it absorbed I have 3 adult cats. Since feeding homemade raw my cats have almost no feces odor so I cannot tell for that, but at least for pee this litter has been great. I might try another less coarse crystal litter brand, but if it fails to catch the odor I will definitely come back to this litter. Well worth the money. … more
