Description

Seachem Safe Nitrite & Nitrate Detoxifier for Marine & Freshwater Aquariums is a complete and concentrated dry conditioner for both marine and freshwater aquariums. It removes chlorine and chloramine, and detoxifies ammonia converting it into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Safe may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia and nitrite toxicity. It detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Safe is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Use at startup and whenever adding or replacing water.

Instructions

Use 1/4 tsp for every 300 US gallons as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1/4 tsp for every 75 US gallons for ammonia.

May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite and nitrate in an emergency, up to 4 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 86 °F and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.

FAQ

Can I mix Seachem Safe with water and store the solution to use later on? So instead of using the dry powder, I can use it pre-dissolved.

Safe does not have stabilizers to keep it stable in liquid form. We do not recommend mixing it and storing it for future use.

Absolute must have for large or multiple tanks

We are hobbyists with multiple (I don’t even care to count exactly how many) tanks, both fresh and marine. We use this on every tank. Including the reefs (which get RODI water) because occasionally my other half gets suckered by the little faces that beg for food constantly and subsequently spikes parameters with his “just a pinch more food” habit. Both SAFE and their liquid version PRIME are easy to dose, use, and store. Please pay attention to an earlier review, by another member who lists why nitrate and nitrite still test as positive....this is not a nitrate remover it is a detoxifier. Because the nitrate is still present, however it has been detoxified for about 24 hours. Which gives you time to do a water change if it’s a big nitrogen swing, or your bacteria to catch up while you threaten your husband about over feeding yet again. :) … more

    More For Your Money

    By on

I think of this product as a gift from Seachem to those of us who have Large or Multiple Aquariums. THIS IS THE SAME AS PRIME. Same company, same delicious aroma (yuk), same effectiveness, only this is in concentrated powdered form. I think an 8.8 oz.bottle costs about $10, treats about 60,000 gal. and lasts me 6 months to a year. I bought a set of micro measuring spoons for under $5 to go with it. Great stuff. Detoxifies clorine, ammonia, nitrites, (for 24 hrs). Can use up to four times recommended amount with water change for toxicity emmergencies in your tank.

    DOES NOT REMOVE NITRITE/NITRATE

    By on

I hate seeing all these Mis-informed people on here reviewing a product they have NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT and probably horrid tank and fish quality! SEACHEM PRIME AND SAFE DO NOT REMOVE...DOES NOT REMOVE...DOES !!!!NOT!!!!! REMOVE (I still feel like I should say it more) DOES NOT REMOVE... NITRATES NOR NITRITES! IT CONVERTS THEM TO A NON-TOXIC FORM THAT IS MORE READILY ABSORBED BY YOUR BIOFILTER AKA CYCLED AND ESTABLISHED AQUARIUM!! IT WILL STILL TEST AND SHOW NITRATES AND NITRATES UNDER ANY TEST (api master, fluval, whatever etc etc) but IT IS NO LONGER HARMFUL TO YOUR FISH! YOU WILL NOT AND I SAY AGAIN WILL NOTTTTT!!!!! Find a better conditioner than SEACHEM PRIME AND SAFE! The only difference I hate seeing all these Mis-informed people on here reviewing a product they have NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT and probably horrid tank and fish quality! The only difference I believe is safe does not detoxify ammonia but don’t quote me on that and it’s powder vs liquid and both are super concentrated, I believe is 1ML per 10Gallons and can be used safely up to 5 ish times that amount for emergency situations! Hopefully now some of you people understand! … more

    Great water conditioner

    By on

My tapwater already contains 20ppm of nitrates and they were staying at 80 or above in my tank despite water changes every other day. The still test at that range, but thanks to Safe, my fish are happy and healthy by add just a tiny fraction of a tsp daily. I'm grateful for this product.

Didn't work for my 45 gallon aqaurium

    By on

1/4 tsp is supposed to reduce nitrites/nitrates in a 300 gallon tank. I used 1/4 tsp for my 45 gallon tank and it had no effect. So a couple days later I added another 1/4 tsp to my tank and still no change in the level of nitrites/nitrates. Seems like a waste of money to me.
