Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

With its innovative delivery system, Seresto offers a breakthrough in flea and tick protection for dogs or cats for eight months.

Features and benefits:

  • For dogs or cats
  • Kills fleas
  • Repels and kills ticks. If a tick is repelled, it cannot attach and transmit disease-causing organisms
  • Non-greasy, odorless, easy-to-use

How does Seresto work?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface.

Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

If your cat is not used to collars

Rarely, mild application site reactions may occur such as scratching, redness and hair loss, which usually recover within 1 to 2 weeks without the need for collar removal. In some cases, temporary collar removal and bathing may be recommended until symptoms have disappeared. In very rare cases, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur. In these instances, collar removal is recommended. If signs persist or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for cats?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

  • Sort of Worked for 5 Months

    By on

My mother had great luck with this collar on her barn cat, living 100% outdoors and no fleas or ticks. I have two indoor cats, who have never set foot outside since I got them, no other pets, and these collars didn't work for me. They went 5 months without getting fleas, but I wonder if being indoor cats if the collar actually worked for 5 months or if they just didn't come in contact with fleas for 5 months. Not sure why it works on some cats but not others, but it did not work for mine!

  • Lifesaver!

    By on

I have five cats and live rural and they love being outside all day. They were bringing in fleas and ticks and I had always applied their drops but they just weren't working. I remember the old flea collars and that's what I pictured when out of desperation I ordered these. They work! And although I have replaced them after eight months, they were working until the day I put new ones on. Do not hesitate if fleas and ticks are a problem for you. No more chasing them down once a month or buying the expensive products monthly. And no more fleas and ticks!

  • Best, most effective and affordable option on the market!

    By on

I live in Vermont where ticks are a serious issue. My cat wore the collar from May-October and I did not see a single tick or flea. We started getting freezes, so I thought it was safe to take the collar off. Within a couple of weeks, I found the first tick on her. I am buying another collar right away! My only recommendation is that they design the collar to be temporarily removable. It seemed like it stayed on permanently once applied.

  • Helped my indoor cat for about three months.

    By on

All the five-star reviews convinced me to get this flea collar for one of my two indoor cats. For about three months it helped--most of the fleas disappeared. I could comb out the remaining fleas and the cat loved the grooming sessions. Then the collar began to fail. To be fair, Advantage does not work for either of the cats. I'm switching to a Rx flea treatment prescribed by a vet. I will not order this collar again.

  • Glad for purchase

    By on

After reading all of the reviews I purchased the product and am really glad I did! My cat has had problems since Frontline changed their formula and have been battling with scratching, sores and vet bills! My cat has never worn a collar but doesn't seem to mind it. Checked his neck and skin every day for about a week and no reaction!! Very pleased that it works, hopefully the treatment will continue to work as the months wear on.

  • Wish I bought it right away!

    By on

My cat had fleas for the first time in 15 years. I have spent a ridiculous amount of money on frontline, powders and sprays, yet every time I used the flea comb those suckers where alive and happy. I was getting super mad and didnt know what to do anymore. So I went to our local pet store and the lady working there recommended it. In LESS THAN 24 HOURS there are no more fleas on my cat! I combed her thoroughly - one dead fellow, thats it. I was shocked by the price, but it is most definitely worth every penny! I should have bought it right away - it would have actually saved me big bucks.

  • Works on my cats where Frontline did not.

    By on

I got these collars as an alternative to Frontline because not only did the Frontline not work very well, it was causing a reaction in one of my cats in the form of scabby bumps around her neck and incessant licking off all her fur wherever she could reach. Finally after MONTHS of no longer using Frontline, her fur has almost entirely grown back. The scabby bumps disappeared in about a week and no others formed. Fleas were gone as well. Not a fan of pesticides on pets, but what can ya do? Seresto is the lesser of 2 evils and is working. Also, my cats have always been indoor cats and I'm sure they got fleas from my son's dogs when I dog sat several times. • This is really great

    By on

I used SENTRY PurrScriptions Plus Squeeze-on on my cat, but it didn't seem to get the job done. Both the cat and the house were infested with fleas. It's no use cleaning the house if the animal stays infected and I wanted the house clean NOW. I worried about using another squeeze on so as not to kill my cat, so I searched on-line and this turned up as an alternative. Bought it, put it on the cat and in 2 days she stopped scratching and grooming like crazy. I also sprayed the house several times with Vet's Best spray. I can still see a flea here and there, but most of them are barely moving, dead or dying.

  • Only 4 stars because collar is not a "break away" type

    By on

But 5 stars on effectiveness! My 13 year old cat HATES those neck drops and I don't care for them either. I have not seen him scratching even ONCE since i put this collar on him! He is an inside cat only and I would use it on all my outside cats if it were break-away and brightly colored. Also, please accept PayPal as a payment form! I could order a lot more!
