Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably effective!!! I can NOT say enough good about the Seresto Collars!!! I have a senior Pekingese, and, a Burmese Mountain Dog mix, who was an rescue/adoptee. Several years ago we relocated, and, our new yard has very sandy soil, and, we are in the country. My Peke had never had a flea issue until we moved here!!! And, it was awful!!! I tried EVERYTHING!!! Both topical, powders, shampoos, yard and house treatment, you name it!!! I cringed at the price of these collars, but, compared to the cash I had already spent, it was irrelevant, and, I was desperate!!! Within a few days, I couldn't find a single flea anywhere!!! I was ecstatic!!! When our other dog came into the family, she was a 100% outside dog. I wasted no time in buying another collar!!! Now, because we live in MI, I usually put fresh collars on around Easter, and, take them off around the Holidays. I am happy to report we are completely flea-free all year long!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best item ever This product was recommended to me by my groomer. I have 3 dogs & this was the best option paying $40 per dog for 8 months verses $25 every 30 days per dog for chews. LOVE this item. Gave them baths never had to remove collars and it didn't affect them working. Best item for fleas. Will continue to purchase these. No more chews, neck drops (that make them itch), or pills needed. Put on with collar and go. Best flea collar I've purchased ever. You won't be disappointed. It is a lil pricey but when u break down the usage for 8 months..... it pays for itself. My Yorkies and Dandy Dinmont don't even realize their on them. Ordered on a Friday received Tuesday as Monday was a holiday. Shipping was 2 days and it was processed over the weekend even with it being a holiday weekend. The only thing I didn't like was that once u put this on there's no taking it off unless u cut it off. Then again since I can give them a bath with it on and it doesn't affect it working it's not to bad. Just make sure you allow enough room 2-3 finger widths so it's not tight or snug on dogs neck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected!! Where I live we have an unbelievable problem with fleas in our yard. I had never had any luck with flea collars in the past so I was not sure that I really wanted to pay a great deal of money for one and not really know if it would work either. I talked to my veterinarian first to see what his opinion was on the effectiveness of the collar and he highly recommended it. About a day and a half after putting this collar on my puppy he was flea free! You could literally see the fleas dying and falling off of him. It was unreal. I was ecstatic because I had done everything I knew to do and this was really a last resort. He still will pick up a few fleas when we take him out but the do not last long at all! Definitely definitely worth the money! And the best deal I have ever seen is ordering with chewy.com for this product! This company has to be the best I have ever ordered from. I have not had a single problem and I get my order in exactly 2 days everytime I have ordered. Love love love chewy.com and highly recommend the collar!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seresto collars are the best! Our poor little dogs never had a very big problem with fleas....until a new family moved in next door. They have 2 large huskies. No match for our long-coat chihuahuas. I tried everything to get rid of the fleas. Stuff on the yard, stuff on the carpets, and an unending parade of topical stuff on our dogs that did not work. A groomer suggested Seresto collars. Even though they were expensive, I decided that I needed to try them. My son cringed when he asked the price and I told him how much the collars would cost. But like I told him, if someone was taking care of ME, I would want them to do whatever they had to do to keep me comfortable. Guess what? THE COLLARS WORKED! The dogs were flea-less within a couple of days! I am a repeat buyer, and I will plan to buy more collars again when these get old...which is about 8 months. When you divide the initial cost over 8 months, the collars are really not so expensive after all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is AMAZING! We live in a largely wooded area in New Hampshire. I have two small dogs who we walk on leash in the backyard. We were pulling ticks off both of them on a daily basis. The vet sugested these collars, and , after seeing the huge price tag, we "thought" about it. Well one day after my dog came out of the pool, she had a tick the size of a grape on her tail. I was totally grossed out and went online and bought them each a seresto collar. Within a couple of days, no more ticks. All summer long, in and out of pool, no more ticks. Long hiking trails, no more ticks. This is the best. I will always use it!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So-so, might give it another shot. I have four dogs, all rescue dinguses, ranging from 25 to 60lbs. We live in a very rural area, on a wooded property, and have struggled with fleas and ticks the *entire* time we have lived here. Year-round. I was really keen to try these collars, as they were much more cost effective than topicals, and because even though we had good results with Trifexis in the past for flea/tick control, a couple of our babies are on medications which can cause complications, and were still getting intestinal parasites, too! So, time to switch it up. Well, after a couple months, not a tick in sight! The fleas, on the other hand...still snacking away. They were not present on the shoulders and head, but all my babies' butts were itchy and covered! Ended up having to do a round of pills to clear them up after all. :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Smell My first impression was there isn't any smell or powdered residue on this collar! It seems to be working. My little dog was not "infested" by fleas, but I did see one black speck in her last bath and upon closer inspection with a magnifying glass it was a nasty flea (if there is one...there is more, yuk.) I immediately went online to chewy.com and this product had very good reviews. It was more expensive then some of the others, but just the fact it does not stink is worth it, plus no more specks! I hope it last the eight months!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This collar does everything it supposed to do. We have three dogs and live in Austin Texas where fleas live year round because there is no real cold spells. We had been spending around 60 dollars a month to control fleas and ticks and most times they still had fleas. With these collars fleas and ticks are gone within two days and stay gone for the said eight months. Our dogs do not get sick from monthly treatments and have stopped scratching almost altogether. I would recommend this collar to anyone who owns dogs as it performs up to standards that is advertised.
