Inside the unique polymer matrix of the Seresto collar are two active ingredients: imidacloprid, which has been used in products recommended by veterinarians for years to control flea infestations, and flumethrin, which effectively repels and kills ticks, larvae and nymphs. Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

  • A happy Yorkie :)

    By on

I have a 9 lb Yorkie , who has a severe allergic reaction to flea bites. She hardly ever goes outside much, but when she does , We want her safe from fleas and ticks. I ordered this last year , and happy to say , no fleas or ticks . When you consider the cost of frontline , and it being a chemical base , applying it on my lil Yorkie wasnt an opption . The frontline burns theyre skin. Seresto in my opinion is the best product out there. Give it a try , you wont be disapointed. Thank you Chewy for being my go to store for all my Yorkie needs . This store has the absolute best customer service in the world . Xoxoxo

  • Does NOT prevent ticks

    By on

I'm sad to write this because I had incredibly high hopes. After two hikes, it's proven itself to not work to prevent whatever ticks are in the Tennessee area. My small dog who's fur is closer to the ground and being longer haired has had a bad luck. Found a total of six and 4 were attached after the first hike. He's been wearing the collar about 2 months and no baths. It's not gotten wet and should've been in 100% working order. Then last night after our hike I checked him and there was a tick who had just grabbed ahold of his skin. They're not dieing after a few hours of biting him, either. Found one after the first hike attached to his ear after about 14 hours, filled with his blood. I however I'm sad to write this because I had incredibly high hopes. • Great Product

    By on

I am trying seresto on my 100lb boxer mix and my 10lb papillon. We have 68 acres of wetlands and grasslands with surrounding pine trees in upstate NY. The ticks are out of control and I have tried multiple products in previous years none of which prevented ticks from embedding in my pups. They have both been wearing there seresto collars for three weeks and I have only found 2 ticks on my larger dog. This is a miracle considering I was checking them after every walk and sometimes pulling off 15-20 ticks at a time and finding more later. Initially, it took about three days to become effective but they have been almost tick proof ever since. Love the product!

  • It works!!!

    By on

I tried so many other flea products that did not work at all, when Seresto was mentioned to me by a friend who works at a zoo/shelter for rescued animals. I have seven animals, so the investment was quite pricey; however, it has come to be well worth the investment. I have one for small dogs, ones for large dogs, and ones for cats. I no longer have a flea problem after only a couple of days. My poor animals are so much more comfortable and happy. I have them on auto-ship so I never forget to get them.

  • Munch munch

    By on

I started using these in January and as expected they worked well during the cold when there's hardly a tick problem and they're inside dogs. Now May/June when it's Hot here in the Midwest my dogs are now scratching and munching on themselves like crazy.. I expected them to have at least 2 more months out of them. I'm not sure if they wore off already or if 6 months is all I get instead of 8

  • So far, so good.

This brand of flea collar was recommended by the breeder I purchased my dog from and the price was better than I found at the store. I read some reviews that said it irritated their dog's skin but my dog had no problems. We live in the country and so far my dog is flee and tick free. I do like the fact that it lasts 8 months.

We just received our two collars and they seem to be working really well.. Hopefully they will last the 8 month, and I will purchase them again; but can not really tell at this time if I would recommend them until I see if they will last the 8 mo..I have already recommended to two of my kids your company... and both have purchased from you.

  • Chewy Best prices for Seresto

    By on

I have used many different Flea and Tick medications in the past and last year I purchased Seresto. I never like collars and always purchased applicator treatments. Last year was the fist time I saw no ticks at all on my two dogs. Because of this I have purchased again this year hoping for the same results. Chewy had the best prices and awesome delivery times. My daughter uses Chewy for all her dog food orders. They are GREAT!!!!
