Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

  • Seresto collar

A very experienced older Vet recommended this to me. Main reason being that the collar kills fleas and ticks faster than anything else right now. 5-6 hours as compared to 10-12 hours. So far I have been watching closely and have found nothing on my puppy yet, whereas b-4 it was a constant removal job w/every trip outside. I would say it does a great job at repelling too. So far it's great, and Chewy had the best price I could find.

  • Amazing results

    By on

This collar is amazing. I don't usually have a problem with fleas, but we have had two milder winters in a row and the bugs are especially bad. I noticed 5 or 6 fleas on my pups and within 24 hours, there were no signs of any fleas. I can't say if it lasts all 8 months because I've only have them for a couple months, but definitely worth the buy!

  • Terrific Product

    By on

I have used Soresto collars for my two bichon frises for a few years now. They are excellent and my boys have had no problems with them at all. They do not tolerate the liquid topical flea preventives as they irritate their skin and cause a bad reaction. This is an excellent flea and tick repellent that lasts for a long time.

  • Seresto Flea Tick Collar effective in western Illinois

    By on

I used to be a consumer of the traditional oil based flea and tick product that was applied between the shoulder blades until my Golden contracted Lymes disease and I literally found ticks attached to him one week after fresh application of the product. Application was completed under vet observation so I know that was not the issue. Since I have used Seresto Flea & Tick Collars, I have not had any tick or flea issues or tick borne illnesses in my dogs.

  • Great product

    By on

After searching for a new flea product for my dog I finally settled on this. The liquid flea product had negative side effects; my dog lays around for about a day after she gets dosed not feeling well, just lethargic...this flea collar has been the answer for us. There is no smell, my dog doesn't mind wearing it in the least, and she doesn't have ANY fleas - and I search her every couple of days (no traces of flea dirt either). The collar is expensive but it is worth the cost for us.

  • Love these!

I have five kids, three dogs, and two kids. Literally, the definition of crazy. These collars save my dogs from the wrath of the blood sucking tick. Without them they'd have Lyme disease because Lord knows I could never remember to put goo on their backs.

  • did not work on 15 pounds dogs

    By on

I bought two of these collars for my both of my 15 pound dogs. Followed instructions to a 'T', but did not notice any difference after a week of constant wear. Multiple Fleas were still present. Perhaps being close to the 18 pound cut off was a factor. May or may not try the large size for my 15 pound dogs.

  • One month in and it's doing great

    By on

I can't speak to the 8-month duration promise because my dogs have had them only 1 month, but I will say that the reaction to their behavior was dramatic. I'd tried Frontline, and it was not working. I even did second doses after 3 weeks, still it was as if I were just putting baby oil on them. The fleas or whatever they were continue to plague my dogs. My dogs are small, so biting at their coats was devastating and they looked like abused animals. One month in, and their coats are rich and thick again and I can't tell you the relief I feel!

  • kills fleas and ticks but clasp won't keep collar on

    By on

1st season using this collar. We've used it a couple of months. Keeps dog tick and flea free. But we've had to replace collar due to clasp not keeping collar attached. Same thing with the large dog collar for big dog. We've learned to also use ties to help hold collar attached.
