How to Find the Best Fit: Select the carrier size based on your pet’s measurements first and then by your pet’s weight, making sure not to exceed the maximum weight limits. Also allow enough space for your pet to change positions while inside the carrier. Note: the carrier is designed for pets lying down, so your pet may not be able to stand.

How to Measure Your Pet: For pet’s length, start at the nape of the neck (where the collar falls) and measure to the base of the tail. For height, measure from the floor to the top of the shoulder.

FAQ

How Do I Know What Size Carrier Is Best For My Pet?

Please weigh and measure your pet carefully. The pet's length should be measured from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. The pet's height should be measured when it is standing, from the floor to the shoulder. Please note, pets should have enough room to lie down comfortably but also stand up and turn around should they wish to change positions.

How Do I Fold My Carrier When Not In Use?

  • Remove the faux lambskin liner from the stability board
  • Detach the stability board from the carrier by pulling up the Velcro tabs on either end
  • Secure the faux lambskin liner back onto the stability board and move to the top of the carrier so the liner and board are beneath the U-shaped opening
  • Fold either end of the carrier down and underneath the liner and board
  • Store in a clean, dry place for future use

Does My Sherpa Carrier Push Down?

All Sherpa carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag. The spring wire frame allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.

What Does Airline Approved Mean?

Airline Approved means that a carrier:

  • Provides adequate ventilation
  • Is leak-proof
  • Safely encloses the pet

What Does Guaranteed On Board® Mean?

Guaranteed On Board® is the only program that guarantees a Sherpa carrier meets an airline's specific rules and regulations and will be allowed on board. All small and medium Sherpa carriers are included in the GOB program. However, the medium size carrier is not Guaranteed On Board on ALL of the airlines included in the program.

Why Is My Airline Not Listed On The Guaranteed On Board Site?

Just because a particular airline is not included in the Guaranteed On Board program it does not mean your carrier will not be allowed on board, just that you will need to confirm directly with the airline. Please note, our carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame that allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.

My Carrier Is Larger Than What The Airline Specifies As Being Permitted In-Cabin. Will It Be Allowed On Board?

Please check with airline directly. Some airlines allow carriers that are larger than the dimensions they specify if the carrier is soft-sided and pushes down. All Sherpa carriers are made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag which allows the end to be pushed down several inches to conform to the under seat dimensions without restricting the pet's head room or compromising the structural integrity of the bag.

I Cannot Find My Style / Size Carrier On The Drop-Down Menu On The Gob Form. Is It Allowed On Board My Airline?

No. If the style / size carrier you have is not included in a particular airline's GOB page it is not Guaranteed On Board that particular airline because its dimensions exceed what the airline specifies as being allowed on board.

  • Perfect carrier for a cat

    By on

I love this carrier because unlike the original Sherpa carrier, this one has a solid, stiff bottom that doesn’t flex when the animal moves around. I think that gives the animal a sense of security and certainly makes it easier to carry. It is a quality product and well designed.

  • For flying

    By on

My fur baby seemed to get quite warm while traveling in his Sherpa carrier. I was surprised that only 3 sides were mesh. We tried it out while we were driving. He got so overheated I am not sure if we will use it while flying. He was in it less than 45 minutes, in a car during the winter. We shall see. The carrier itself is built well, smaller than I anticipated tho.

  • Measure first

    By on

This carrier is a well built unit but was a bit too small for the length and height of my pet. I ordered based on the weight/size guidance given in the add (small for a 10 lb dog). My little miniature Schnauzer was just a bit too tall and long for the unit. Better to measure your pet before ordering.

  • perfect except...

Wish it unzipped on both sides and mini window on body side. No specific seat belt straps but can do it through loop of lower shoulder strap. Also wish they made a size small option. Otherise, it's my new favorite pet carrier bag,I love the stiffness to give my kitty space, take Ms. Kitty everywhere, coffee, car rides, work, errands adventures, it's her cave away from home.

We loved the quality and look of this carrier, but it is very small....our 6 month old, 9 lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cannot fit comfortably.

  • Really wish it could work, but some design issues for my dog

    By on

I have been in search of an airplane carrier for my little Boston Terrier, and it is so hard! He is about 17.5 lbs, but he has long legs as a Boston goes, so he is taller than usual. I first tried the Sherpa Original Deluxe Medium size, and it's just a bit small for him, but the Large size will exceed the airline limit, so I was in the search again. When I saw this one on Chewy, I decided to give it a try even though there is no other reviews. It looked like the top can be squeezed down a bit to meet the airline requirement, and the height is listed as 13", so it's going to be tall enough for my puppy to be comfortable. And below are the test results of the product: 1. The height is misleading I have been in search of an airplane carrier for my little Boston Terrier, and it is so hard! And below are the test results of the product: 1. The height is misleading a bit, because the inside height is really just about 11.5", the bottom part takes up some of the 13" 2. The top of the carrier is still supported, so you can't really squish it down much 3. The curved design looks nice, but not really practical, it's hard to convince my puppy to go in there since he doesn't need to go in there completely to get his treats. He just get his head in and stick his rear legs out, and gets out right away after got his treats. It is unlike the Original Deluxe, I can just leave the top zipper open, and he actually is more comfortable getting in there to get treats. 4. Since I only tried it 2 times, I cannot comment on the quality too much. But my puppy scratched the front mesh panel, and it has already got 2 tiny holes, so not sure how long it can hold up dog scratches. 5. The bedding of the carrier is very soft, and it's lifted by the bottom layer, so it should be a comfortable carrier if your pet can comfortably get in there So my search continues... … more
