How to Find the Best Fit: Select the carrier size based on your pet’s measurements first and then by your pet’s weight, making sure not to exceed the maximum weight limits. Also allow enough space for your pet to change positions while inside the carrier. Note: the carrier is designed for pets lying down, so your pet may not be able to stand.
How to Measure Your Pet: For pet’s length, start at the nape of the neck (where the collar falls) and measure to the base of the tail. For height, measure from the floor to the top of the shoulder.
Please weigh and measure your pet carefully. The pet's length should be measured from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. The pet's height should be measured when it is standing, from the floor to the shoulder. Please note, pets should have enough room to lie down comfortably but also stand up and turn around should they wish to change positions.
All Sherpa carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag. The spring wire frame allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.
Airline Approved means that a carrier:
Guaranteed On Board is the only program that guarantees a Sherpa carrier meets an airline's specific rules and regulations and will be allowed on board. All small and medium Sherpa carriers are included in the GOB program. However, the medium size carrier is not Guaranteed On Board on ALL of the airlines included in the program.
Just because a particular airline is not included in the Guaranteed On Board program it does not mean your carrier will not be allowed on board, just that you will need to confirm directly with the airline. Please note, our carriers are soft-sided and made with a patented spring wire frame that allows the back end to be pushed down several inches to slide beneath the airline seat without restricting the pet's head room.
Please check with airline directly. Some airlines allow carriers that are larger than the dimensions they specify if the carrier is soft-sided and pushes down. All Sherpa carriers are made with a patented spring wire frame in the rear of the bag which allows the end to be pushed down several inches to conform to the under seat dimensions without restricting the pet's head room or compromising the structural integrity of the bag.
No. If the style / size carrier you have is not included in a particular airline's GOB page it is not Guaranteed On Board that particular airline because its dimensions exceed what the airline specifies as being allowed on board.

About Sherpa Travel Pet Carriers
Sherpa Travel Pet Carriers
Sherpa Travel Carriers are airline-approved carriers that let your pet travel comfortably on the go, in the car or on walks. They are easy to use and durable enough to keep your pet safely contained and protected.
Fits Under Most Airline Seats
Sherpa Carriers with a built-in spring-wire frame allow you to push down the rear side of the carrier several inches. This helps them fit under most airline seats in compliance with airline requirements and FAA regulations. The flexible design makes the carrier in-cabin friendly and airline approved for most airlines.
Fly With Peace of Mind
Sherpa worked with major airlines to make a carrier that is Guaranteed On Board. Sherpa’s Guaranteed On Board program provides you the information you need for future travels with your pet and added assurance that your carrier will be allowed to fly.
Sherpa Makes Travel Easy
Sherpa Carriers feature mesh panels for ventilation, top and side entries, locking zippers for added safety and a seatbelt safety strap.

Not secure or suitable for cats. Believe the other cat reviewers. Don't use for a cat. Extremely, Very disappointed for an item with Delta Airline approval. The mesh is not sturdy or strong enough, holes are too big, was training my timid, calm cat to get accustomed to the carrier, she was able to rip holes in the mesh. The particle board bottom was too long causing the corners to bulge outward, difficult to zip, and the board is too flexible, push down on it, the bottom sags and the carrier feet spread and turn outward. One side of the mesh does not have a roll down flap, which is needed. Thought I could make a flap, the handle & pocket placement do not permit this. The pocket is useless for holding anything other than a piece of paper, treats will not fit inside.
My husband flew home with our 15lb, 10 week old Goldendoodle across the states on Delta. He was able to set the carrier on his rolling suitcase while holding the handles so she could pop her head out. She loved it! The carriers flexible sides allowed ample room inside for her to lay down & sleep. She traveled really well in this carrier enjoying the security feel of it like a crate. We would highly recommend this carrier.
Nice crate, but my dog broke the zipper the first time we tried to use it for flying. She was fine with it until, I had to place her underneath the seat on the airplane. Then she broke the zipper. I won’t be taking her on an airplane again, she was just too stressed. But if anyone is reading this, there needs to be a way to give pets treats without opening zippers. Once I’d open the zipper just a little, she would start pushing against that spot and then it would be difficult to close and make sure not to catch her hair. My cat is using it as a hide out now!
If your cat isn't a fan of carriers would not recommend. The second time we ever used it, my cat clawed through the netting very easily and escaped within 5 minutes.
My cat ripped a hole in the cheap, flimsy netting and escaped within the first 15 minutes in the carrier. Chaos ensued.
Took my cat to the vet this am after buying this Sherpa cat carrier. I really like this cat carrier; it is lightweight with a sturdy handle, and easy clean up after returning home. When not traveling, I put the carrier on the floor, and my cat can enjoy a nap inside.
It was just what I needed to transport my cat. It help up to the test and will be using it over and over again.
The case is a nice size for my 7 lb toy poodle and I usually fly Delta so this seemed like a good choice. I took my first flight using this last week and on the return flight last night I saw that the zipper had already broken. Most of the time I used this carrier the dog wasn't even in it (e.g., at the gate waiting area, I had her on my lap; at security I carried her through). Knowing that this item was to be used for a live animal who would be moving around within it, I believe the design is defective if the zipper would break on the first trip - making it completely un-usable. Also, since your pet counts as your carry-on bag when you fly, it would be much more useful if it had a bit more storage or pockets to put necessities in. Note: This is a negative review about the product, not Chewy. The customer rep that I spoke with was great.
This is a nice carrier but my cat tore it open and escaped lol. We had to wrap it up in tape to keep him in. It's very lucky we were still at home at the time, if we had been in the car or on the plane it would have been a disaster. This carrier may be fine for calmer pets but please be warned that an anxious or destructive pet can and will get out.
The medium size was perfect for our 12 pound Bichon on a recent Delta flight. No problems checking in. Enough space to lie down and turn around. The shoulder strap was especially useful as it leaves your hands free and the soft top made it easy to push it down a little to make it fit under the seat. Good buy.
