I've used these for years. They are high quality, and the only ones I have ever found that keep gnats/no-see-ums as well as flies out. They are thick/stiff enough to remain away from they eyes. My horses love them and come up to me to have me put their masks on and give me a nice sigh... They are easy to wash if they roll in mud with them. They size large, so for my Quarter horses I use the "Cob" size and sometimes still have to take the strap behind the ears in a bit. No big deal. My ranch horses are out on pasture, with thick brush, mesquite thorns, cholla, cedar trees etc. and I never had one rub his off, only by playing has another horse pulled one off. I order the turquoise color so have a fighting chance of finding it in the grass... but that will happen with any fly mask. Quality is outstanding in my opinion and I even ride with the mask on if flies are bad. Just be aware, as with any fly mask, that if it rains, the rain will coat the mask and the horses will be completely blind. So take it off if rain's a-coming...
I love this mask for my donkey. I bought Olive the pony size and it is a perfect fit. This mask keeps the flies out of Olive's eyes, but also protects with the UV rays as she really needs; one of her eyes has to be medicated daily. Olive use to get masks from Etsy, but these masks are better quality and months faster to receive. Will buy again and highly recommend.
The fly mask is perfect for my Gypsy Vanner filly. Ixxabell has a double thick mane, and heavy forlock. Consequently, I never buy fly masks with ears. This mask is not confining to my girl, and is a good fit, as she has a large head
My horse decided it would be a good idea to rip his eyelid off. After the vet repaired it, he had to have stiff mask. These have been amazing! Stay on the face nice and are comfortable. Highly recommend!! Bought 3 more for my other horses.
I love the simplicity of this fly mask; ideal for horses who simply need eye protection. It keeps their muzzle, ears, and forelock free. The ear strap is soft and there is soft fleece near the muzzle. The Full fit my 17.2 OTTB.
I have a Friesian cross mare who is the master of removing masks. I’ve tried many brands (standard cheap to $70+) and styles of masks and they all come off by the end of one day. This earless version is the only one she doesn’t remove. My guess is that there is no easy way to hook the ear part over a fence post since it lays flat and further back behind her ears. Additionally, I like that the mane can come out of the mask. With a full forelock this is very nice. The fit is standard - I use the normal horse size for my Friesian cross (16.3) and the oversize for my Percheron cross (18.2) which matches what I’ve seen from most brands. I’ve used the standard Shires mask like this one, but with ears or with just ear holes for my other mare for the past three years and have not had any rips or issues. The stretchy cheek part does stretch after a few washings but they are still useable.
I love this fly mask. It is so much easier to put on my horse than others I've used because of the nice wide opening at the pole. It fits great and looks and feels more comfortable than others. It's stretchy and the mesh is very small so tiny insects can't sneak through. Reasonably priced and a very good buy.
I love Shires fly masks, they wear and wash well, with some of mine being 7 years old. Every horse in my barn has one. When I adopted my mule, the large shire masks I have with the fringe were too small for him in that it rubbed his eye. They don't make shires masks for mules with the fringe or ears. when I ordered this for Leroy judging on my large shires mask, I thought this may work for him. it does with one exception, he has a narrow face so even when adjusted as small as I can make it's still loose. If he wants to rub it off he can. Luckily he's smart and prefers to keep it on!
Finally a nice fitting quality mask for my large mustang pony! He usually is a Cob size but someone rec. go down a size so Ponysize fit perfect. Mask runs a bit larger. He is a 20 yr. rescue stallion. The mask does not hit on his eyes either, nice material to see through too.
Very well made and stays on. Padding where touches head. Mesh portion is designed to keep mask off eyes. Strong double velcro straps.
