Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain toxoplasma gondii, a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Store in a cool, dry place.
Montmorillonite, Diatomite.
For best transition results, replace your old cat litter with Skoon. However, if your cat is having trouble with the transition, we recommend you try the following: * Keep the old familiar cat litter alongside the new Skoon litter box. * Let the old box 'age', cats prefer clean and tidy so soon Kitty will choose Skoon as the clean litter alternative. * Be patient. Every cat is different. * For best results, do NOT mix Skoon with your old litter.
Fill litter box with Skoon to a depth of 2 inches (on a standard size box that should last 2-3 weeks for the average cat).
Skoon is non-clumping, you only need to remove and dispose of solids as needed using a non-clumping litter solid remover with wide openings, then stir the pebbles around the litter box to maximize Skoon's absorption power.
When you notice the Skoon pebbles begin to change to an off-white color, it is time to dispose and replace with fresh Skoon.
The Fine Grain variety of Skoon is a god-send for Noodle and I. It absorbs and stops odors instantly, I can't even smell when Noodle is pooping in the same room as me thanks to how rapidly Skoon absorbs the moisture and gas by dehydrating it, unlike other litters where I'd be able to smell it for a few minutes before the litter neutralizes it. Of all the litters I've tried, and I've tried practically all of them, Skoon Fine Grain tracks the least and the texture is soft enough that my bare feet can hardly feel it, so I often forget to sweep the bit Noodle does kick or track out. The best part is because the litter is made of Diatomaceous Earth, it is especially ideal for special needs cats suffering from Pica, as it can be safely ingested without causing bowel obstruction, unlike clay litter. It is also a natural, non-toxic, and pet-safe pest control agent unlike food / grain / grass based litters. It doesn't leave splinters like wood based litters, and it's gentle on Noodle's paws unlike pellet litters which he refuses to tolerate. The only problems are it's prohibitively expensive and not financially sustainable for low income households, especially when considering an Extra Large litterbox like Noodle's requires almost 2 bags to fill to the appropriate depth of two to three inches. It's also one of the dustiest litters on the market. Don't let advertisers fool you, there is no such thing as "dust free" litter, they make at least some trace amount of dust when pour, sifting, and scooping, but Skoon makes enough during scooping and stirring to gag on and trigger my asthma. The aforementioned dust cloud becomes infinitely worse to tolerate as it begins to smell from doing its job of absorbing waste perhaps a bit too well after about two or three weeks at most unlike the full month they promise - something that adding activated charcoal could help remedy while keeping all the health benefits intact and perhaps reducing the unit price a little since the formula wouldn't be just pure DE pebbles. The price and the dustiness are literally the only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 star review, especially when it's a necessity for my fur baby and not just a want. Mostly the price. I sincerely hope the manufacturer of Skoon can find a way to produce this product in a way that can be more economically sustainable for customers without sacrificing quality. Or perhaps sell a larger economy size bag?
Used the fine litter in one box and the pebbles in the other. Scooped the solid waste at least once a day. After a week and a half the smell of urine was overwhelming. The litter is just as messy as clay litter and it does get tracked just the same. I tossed both boxes and went back to clay.
Sadly this was a bad experience - the first time ever. This litter temporarily replaced the regular grain Skoon product (temporarily out of stock). The temporary replacement was not a good experience. I appreciate the attempt..
To me this litter works really well. Tracking is at a minimum. I no longer have to sweep up or vacuum everyday. Easy to scoop out. Expensive, however worth every penny
This litter is fine enough to cling to cats' paws. The whole reason I switched away from clumping litter was because the cats would track it all over the house. The larger grain Skoon prevents this, but I guess the small pebbles are small enough to get stuck to paws even without clumping. It is easier to scoop solids with this litter, however.
There is very little tracking with this litter! I love it. I just wish it came in a bigger bag/the lavender scent!
I really love that this litter doesn’t clump and doesn’t smell until it’s ready to be changed, about every 3-4 weeks for me! It’s really easy to clean daily and changing out the whole pan is super easy too. Yes, it tracks and it’s annoying but most litter does and I have mats to catch most of it right outside the boxes. 4/5 stars because I keep trying to put it on auto ship and the company keeps deciding it’s going on back order but never does. It’s always available when I need it.
My two cats took to it right away. I loved the tiny poop pellets, lack of smell, and ease of just thoroughly stirring. But the white pellets track everywhere. And because they're white and of substance I see them on rugs, steps, many feet from the litter box. I've tried different litter mats, rugs, but nothing seems to stop the tracking. I've now switched to try another litter.
I like many aspects of this product, it's light, natural and absorbs well, my cats aren't there yet. I put it on autoship so I am in it, hoping they get on board.
I don't smell a thing and hardly have to empty my self cleaning litter box. I do agree that it does seem to track more than other litters but I have a mat outside the litter box that catches most of it.
