This is good bedding. No dust, and helps with odor control. I just wish the bag came with a resealable zipper.
I get it, things happen but it looks like it got tore when putting it in the box. It was only a little so I still used it.
Plain and unvarnished review: Great bedding for the pets, but more costly than you might expect. We previously used Carefresh (CF) bedding. I love the bright and festive colors of CF, and that an amount that seems so small can become so much more than you might expect. But CF is quite pricy compared with this Small Pet Select (SPS) brand — it seemed worth a try despite my ultimate preference for said festive colors. ;-) The Great: The claim of low-dust is an accurate one! I used this for several changes of our gerbil cage, and barely had any sweeping up or dusting to do once the bulk of the bedding was scooped out. It is also magnificent at absorbing and somewhat neutralizing the urine smell that becomes overwhelming in short order with this type of cage. I misplaced the SPS bag and had to use CF on the cage change before this most recent one, and everything was covered in fibrous blue dust when I went to change it again. Plus, the smell was quite a bit more pungent with the CF, which made me feel awful for those poor sweet gerbils. The Good: This is the softest pet bedding I’ve ever encountered, outside of memory foam cushions used for cats/dogs, and vet bed. Truly remarkable in that regard! It’s not stiff and crumbly like the CF, and I feel confident that our gerbils are in splendorous comfort with it. They burrow with abandon through this material, like Scrooge McDuck in his money vault. LOL The Not-So-Great: The cost of this bedding is lower than the competition, it’s true. It is compressed to a small degree, as stated. However, it is not going to expand out to an amount twice the size of what you put in the way CF does. I figure that’s how they keep it so soft and comfortable, so I won’t complain about that. However, when you factor in that it won’t last as long as the same size bag of the competitor’s brand does, it’s not quite as economical as it first appears. If you’re using larger quantities per cleaning, such as for a guinea pig/rabbit cage or a ferret habitat, it may not be the ideal choice as far as that goes. We only have a small habitat for two gerbils, and can stretch out a bag like this over four or five months. To me, that’s worth the cost. But I would be amiss to represent this as the wisest option for all owners of exotics, because it’s not. (Unless you’re secure enough financially to not worry about the higher overall cost with the more frequent purchase requirements.) Overall, I love and recommend this bedding. I only removed one star for the indirect implication that this will cover as much ground (as it were) as CF.
I could believe the volume measurement of this product if it were tightly packed like the other paper litter I have purchased. This arrived in a large bag but was loose, not compact, and thus has lasted exactly HALF THE TIME it should have. It’s a fine litter, just not a good value, and I am sorry I got it, because I was expecting to be able to use it for about two months, and it ran out after one month, even with combining it with another litter. I am worried that if I try to order it again it will be the same thing, so I don’t think I will chance wasting money again.
We love ordering this bedding for our little guinea pig. Its very absorbent and controls odor in his cage if cleaned once a week.
While this bedding *is* compressed, it doesn't equate quite to what Chewy advertises. We blew through this _much_ faster than the Carefresh we usually get. That is getting harder and harder to find in white in bulk so I decided to give this a try based on the description and reviews. Our chinchilla and rabbit asked us to go back to the Carefresh.
This bedding is super affordable and our rats love it! It has lasted us quite some time and is definitely more cost effective than other options at the pet store.
We have two guinea pigs so we go through a lot of bedding. This bag will last the whole month! Plus it’s soft and they just pop around when it’s fresh like they’re in snowdrifts - so cute!
This is the first time I have purchased this product and I will purchase it again. Low to no dust and for the price there is a lot of bedding in the bag. I have one guinea pig and she is in a 3 x 2 habitat. I clean one area of her cage and add fresh bedding daily and change all the bedding in her cage twice per month. This bag will probably last 2-3 months. I compare prices and so far this is the least expensive bedding per liter that I have found. I do not worry about odor control because I clean the soiled area of her cage each day.
I've done about 3 changes now for a 3X5 guinea pig cage and I still have for at least 2 more changes! Doesn't smell, over all will be buying again!
