SmartBones Holistic Chicken Sticks Grain-Free Dog Treats

I am sad to say that after reading the recent FDA reports on grain free, boutique, and exotic ingredient foods causing fatal heart disease in dogs, I had just ordered this. I really wanted to like it - I know my girls did - but I threw the bag away when I read that FDA report and then the ingredients list. Peas and potatoes are both suspect ingredients and while the FDA hasn't yet recommended recall on these, despite the handful of deaths I personally know about, I will no longer be buying or feeding ANYTHING, be it food, treat, or supplement, with ANY of the ingredients that has not undergone formulation by a vet nutritionist and strict testing protocol. I'm impressed with the contents of the product. My puppy loved them at first sniff. They smell better to me than most dog treats, too. I'm gluten-free and am happy to keep my animals relatively gluten-free as well since dogs and cats, by nature, have a meat-based diet.

For a treat that's supposed to have "all the benefits of rawhide," these were a complete disappointment. I was hoping they'd provide some decent chewing time for my mini Australian Shepherd puppy, who is not a hard chewer by any stretch. However, she can finish one if these in three bites and two seconds. I don't even have time to get the package closed back up before it's gone and she's waiting hopefully for a second one. If you're looking for a super expensive training treat, by all means, but if you're hoping for something your dog will actually take a minute getting through, keep looking.

My Dasiy is 13 going on 14 and I love them for her. They are good for her teeth they are not has hard has a rawhide bone. I am not worry anymore of her swallowing big chunks and bleedy gums. Plus they are not made in China. I enjoy this product as much as she dose .

I am very pleased with this item because my dogs love it and I perceive that it is healthier for my dogs. I think the price may be a little high but the dogs are worth it.

Our dogs love these treats and I love that they don’t contain rawhide. They last our 60 lb dog only a few minutes but our 35 lb dog chews on them for awhile before they’re gone! I also like that they are grain free and a little healthier than the regular smart bones. Will definitely keep buying!

Every morning my girl can’t wait for her special treat after her walk. She does this little dance on her hind legs in front of the treat cabinet. I have incorporated these holistic treats in to our collection of goodies. She devours them.
