As my cats are no longer kittens, I needed something a little more difficult. Every night I put their greenies in there and it keeps them busy and focused. They know what their treat is and enjoys the hunt.
I purchased this item from a thrift store not knowing what it was & intuitively thought 'cat puzzle box', interestingly I was spot on. My family has multiple cats and it is hard to find activities that appeal to more than one, which you all know. Took about a week until they warmed up to it but It's been over a year & they still run over each other to get to the 'cat room' when they see me touch it. I fill it with a variety of cat treats, mice, balls, yarn bits, catnip etc.. It appeals to multiple personalities, from king of the hill to the leisurely swatter, play together or solo. Even my old girl(20)waits until others have left & snoops. My usage: I only set it out every couple weeks & switch up treats/toys,they are familiar with box but not bored by contents. I recommend purchasing a variety pack of small toys, from my experience a couple of foam balls will not satisfy ANY feline. The box itself is wonderful, second only to laser. WARNING causes kanine jealousy!
I gave it to a cat who needs more stimulation and challenge. He was able to get one of the balls out very quickly! I think they'll need to put some treats into it to continue getting his attention.
Purchased because it's made of wood and it is high quality item with some weight to it. Bought the large one due to the number of cats I have. Be sure to buy an extra package of balls to go with these. I put a variety of items inside including furry mice and other toys. Cats love it when I put treats in here as it keeps them entertained.
This is a wonderful toy box for Kittens! Miss Precious, loves playing with the 4 balls, that go into the box and then she hits them out of the box and she chases them around the floor, and hits them back into the box. It so much fun to watch her.
My cats initial reaction to this was great, they were super interested however my boy pulled the ball out in about a minute then the other and walled away. I put them back in, he immediately pulls them out. I tried putting other toys in it and even some treats no luck. They problem with this toy is it just way to easy. Don't waist your money.
Ash is disinterested, but Simi likes it! She has to be in the mood to play with it. The balls that come with it are too easy for them to bat out. I put in some squeaky toys, and some crinkle balls that were more of a challenge, and that seemed to do the trick! Very nicely made wood product, no rough edges.
The design flaw in this toy is that the ball easily comes out of the side holes. Really disappointed for the money spent. Don't bother! My cats don't even play with this.
It's well made materials wise, but my cat reached in & removed the ball in the first 2 seconds it was on the ground. I think it needs fewer holes to make it more challenging.
One of my cats is a probable bengal mix and her personality shows it. After I unwrapped this, I stuck a bunch of other toys into it and set it on the middle of the living room floor. Cat walked over to it, stuck her paw in the holes and flung every toy out of the box, then looked at me like "Is this all there is?" I thought I had a reject item on my hands, but decided to keep it against a wall with a bunch of toys stored in it. Well, my cat now loves taking things out of the box to play with and rediscovering her old favorite toys, choosing what she wants to play with. (I also switch them out with new toys and those from their other secret supply box.) When I notice a bunch of small cat toys scattered around, I just gather them up and plop 'em back into the box! So it's worked out great. I should also add that this box is high quality, solid and heavier than one would expect.
