This thing is a life saver. My furballs old one was WELL worn out and I knew he needed a newer one but preferably one that matched his size. Poor guy was trying to use my walls but it obviously wasn't getting him what he needed, luckily no damages. This product proven steady AND sturdy as of yet. It stands well for my poofball, now he is not a big cat just about average but like all cats they tend to be longer than advertised when stretching. And this works great!! He now greets me coming home by lauching onto his new scratching post and getting a big stretch in. Highly recommended.
Is it just me or cat towers, posts, toys, etc. are always not aesthetic at all? It is so annoying! Luckily, I found this scratch post while trying to replace my cats previous -an awful to say the least, gray fabric scratch post, which they destroy like 2 weeks after I got it. This one looks sturdy, wobbles very slightly, it's heavy and one of my cats likes hanging out at the top of it. I'd say it's a win and matches my furniture!
Very durable, does NOT tilt or sway. We have 3 cats, the largest being a 16 pound orange tabby. He pulls and scratches this post with all his might and it stands sturdily. I assembled this on my own as my husband was out of town. Except for being heavy, it was not at all difficult to assemble and tighten the screws. Everything lined up properly and the neutral gray tone matches my furnishings.
It's a nice scratching post, wish my cats would like it as much as me. They are still in learning mode. As others have pointed out the "wood" is really more like a wood composite but not bad looking. The real problem came when trying to attach the bottom piece. The fitting that one of the screws had to go into was missing!!! Thus making it impossible for the base half to stay on. Lucky for me, I have a handy husband who was able to modify it. It would have been a shame to have to ship the whole thing back for one little part.
I bought this one to replace our old scratching post, thinking that without the carpet on top and at the base, it would be easier to keep clean. What I didn't realize is that our cats cannot enjoy it like the old without the carpet, or something similar to grip onto. They love our old one because they can hop up and sit on the top, but this one, although it's prettier and doesn't collect fur/dust, they can't use the perch. I gave it 2 stars because at least it is easy to assemble and the cats DO like the scratching feature on the post. No fault of Chewy, by the way...great customer service on this. I would just not order it again.
First of all there is a large sticker on the base that won't come off and is ugly. Secondly, it's wobbly and finally, Cooper will not go anywhere near it. I don't even want to take this thing apart and box it up to return. I think I'll donate to a shelter and hope some kitty loves it.
Easy to assemble. Sticker goes on the bottom. Square it up, then turn the post to match up with the holes. It took me 2 times to get it correct, very easy. I have two over 12lb cats & one small girl they now choose this sturdy post over my chair, which was the whole purpose for my purchase. Works like a charm. And it is nice looking too!
For the price point, I expected more. My 3 cats loved it to pieces in about a month. Within one day, they had ripped the trim off the bottom and the top. The scratching area just isn't fastened well enough. I have since removed the original material and replaced it with twine. I would not purchase this again unless it was deeply on sale.
2 out of three cats live this. At least in my house. Once you figure a way to hold the scratching post up the base becomes easy to attach or just use a second pair of hands. Sturdy and good quality should last quite a while. A good purchase
This is a sturdy post, and it assembled with no difficulty. BUT the 'jute' is a hard plasticky stuff that kitty can't sink her claws into as well as in my chair. I'm disabled, so can't jump up to move her from chair to post the way I did with previous cats in the past, so I'm not sure it's going to get much use.
