    Real Wood?

    This scratching post was advertised as having "wood" for top and base. It seems more like soft, pressed, paper-like board. Will be a gift, hope the cat doesn't chew the "wood." I chose this because I thought it would be more durable than a fur covered top and base, now not so sure. The tan colored This scratching post was advertised as having "wood" for top and base. I chose this because I thought it would be more durable than a fur covered top and base, now not so sure. The tan colored "wood" is a neutral color. It will be used by a large male cat, happy it is so tall. The scratching area is of a durable material. The post seems well made. The base came unassembled, but went together very fast.     Not sturdy enough for large cats

    I do not understand why it’s so hard to find a cat scratcher with a large enough base to make it sturdy. That extra $5 of wood is necessary, especially for large breed cats like mine. If the scratcher isn’t sturdy, the cats will find something that is. You know what’s sturdy and doesn’t wobble? Thankfully my two cat trees are tall and sturdy so my cats use those instead. They tried this out and at the first wobble abandoned it forever.
