Reach for the stars (and scratch a little when you get there)! The SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post has a 32" post height that allows cats to get a full stretch, tone their muscles, and mark their territory without clawing walls or curtains. It's covered in a fibrous woven sisal that won't snag nails like carpet-covered scratch posts.
Sturdy 16" x 16" base keeps post from tipping and wobbling.
32" post height allows your cat to stretch vertically while using the post (important for territorial marking purposes and for toning muscles).
Fibrous and durable woven sisal naturally inspires scratching and relieves cat's stress without snagging cats' nails.
Attractive and neutrally toned to fit in with any home decor.
Assembles quickly and easily with two included screws.
Place the post in a room where the cat spends a lot of time. Cats often like to stretch and scratch when they wake up from a nap.
To introduce the post to your cat try using catnip as a lure. (For most cats a lure is unnecessary, but fun.) Rub catnip onto the sisal material and call the cat over to the post.
Scratch your nails along the surface of the material. This will attract the cat and at the same time teach him where to scratch.
After your cat begins to scratch, praise him and give him a food treat. (Small kittens can be trained to climb the post by showing them food treats and placing it at the top of the post.
If your cat has already been scratching a piece of furniture, place the post directly in front of it.
Temporarily cover the previously scratched areas with a few strips of double-sided carpet tape or clear double-sided tape strips that are designed for this purpose. This will help redirect your cat’s scratching activities to the post.
Great size post for bigger cats who need a stretch but some delivery issues
on Nov 8, 2018
This is very similar to the last post I had that was on its last legs. It’s a great size for full grown cats (my boy is 13lbs). It seems a little less sturdy than his old one (Cosmo is able to move it around) and there were some delivery issues (the top was delivered unattached from the sisal part, leaving exposed nails when I opened the box. I had to break out my tool box to repair it). If I saw it in the store like that, I probably wouldn’t buy it but as I already threw my old one out, I will keep it until Cosmo runs it down

Pros: 1. wrapped in sisal fabric, not sisal rope so cats have a smoother scratch 2. decent perch at the top 3. aesthetically pleasing 4. tall enough for an adult cat to have a full stretch 5. wide heavy base for stability 6. easy assembly (just two screws).
There's only one con: it doesn't come in black (kinda joking, I like having color selection but that's no big deal compared to all the pros listed above)
Yes, It is the Ultimate Scratching Post

I recently adopted an adult feral cat. She is adjusting beautifully to her new home and positively loves this scratching post. It is the perfect height for stretching & doing all the things a kitty needs to manage in their daily routine for wellness. The folks at SmartCat designed a clever tool for cats. It is a dream to assemble & it is a high-quality product that is worth the money.

Very stable and well made. I have a 7 year old LARGE cat ... he has destroyed our one couch.... so I’m trying this scratching post out... we got new furniture and really an trying to persuade him to not use the couch as his nail file. I put cat nip on it and he uses it quite a bit... still have to redirect him from furniture at times but hopefully will work all the time soon.

My 3 month old kitten loves her scratching posts. We have 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. Very sturdy and she likes to climb to the top. She sometimes tries to sit on the top but then she can't figure out how to get back down. They keep her away from scratching the furniture so they work as intended!
Not the most attractive post, but my cat loves it!

I had a hard time getting this out of the packaging by myself, but it's pretty easy to assemble once you get it out. Mine must have been sitting in storage for a while, as it's a bit dirty on one side (I just have that side facing the wall). This post doesn't have a super attractive design, but it's not an eyesore either.
That being said, it works great! My cat, Nox, was scratching the couch basically exclusively and it wasn't great for his nails (or my couch!). He started scratching this before I even got it assembled! He seems to love it; I just sprayed a bit of catnip spray to encourage him and he has completely switched over to using this post.
jury still out

It's been a little over a week and she still won't use it, although she's getting closer to it! It has a heavy industrial / factory smell out of the box. Hoping that airs out and goes away. She is also used to the rope style scratchers and this is different for her. She is very long and I know if she gives it a try she will love the long stretch this offers.
The Cats Love It

I have 5 house cats, all rescued from local SPCA's. This post is great. They all use it and no longer scratch on our furniture. Our long legged 14# boy can stretch way up on it. Best part is it does not tip over.
Meh... it’s not as nice as expected

This item came with some damage and not as nice of quality as I was expecting based on reviews and the price. We set it next too the back of our couch in the middle of the room and so far one of our three cats will use it without prompt, but not the one I figured would use it most (who occasionally stretches and lightly scratches the back of the couch).
The damage to the scratch post is on the top. It was not in a damaged box so logically it could’ve only happened prior to shipping. The sisal isn’t attached as well as I was expecting - it’s just stapled at the bare ends on the sisal pad, which I don’t really expect to hold up well once the cats start scratching on it more often, and it justThis item came with some damage and not as nice of quality as I was expecting based on reviews and the price. I think the color of the ‘wood’ is really unattractive and unnatural, too.
Overall, I’m dissatisfied with the quality of this product. We have a few others by this brand that are quite nice but this is just ‘meh’... it’s getting 3 stars because it hasn’t tipped over, it seems sturdy, and at least one of our cats is enjoying it.… more

The post was perfect when our cat was a kitty but as he grew older and stronger he began pulling it over. The base isn't as sturdy as it might be and the post is heavy which caused me concern. If the base was wider and heavier it would be a five star.
