Reach for the stars (and scratch a little when you get there)! The SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post has a 32" post height that allows cats to get a full stretch, tone their muscles, and mark their territory without clawing walls or curtains. It's covered in a fibrous woven sisal that won't snag nails like carpet-covered scratch posts.
Sturdy 16" x 16" base keeps post from tipping and wobbling.
32" post height allows your cat to stretch vertically while using the post (important for territorial marking purposes and for toning muscles).
Fibrous and durable woven sisal naturally inspires scratching and relieves cat's stress without snagging cats' nails.
Attractive and neutrally toned to fit in with any home decor.
Assembles quickly and easily with two included screws.
Place the post in a room where the cat spends a lot of time. Cats often like to stretch and scratch when they wake up from a nap.
To introduce the post to your cat try using catnip as a lure. (For most cats a lure is unnecessary, but fun.) Rub catnip onto the sisal material and call the cat over to the post.
Scratch your nails along the surface of the material. This will attract the cat and at the same time teach him where to scratch.
After your cat begins to scratch, praise him and give him a food treat. (Small kittens can be trained to climb the post by showing them food treats and placing it at the top of the post.
If your cat has already been scratching a piece of furniture, place the post directly in front of it.
Temporarily cover the previously scratched areas with a few strips of double-sided carpet tape or clear double-sided tape strips that are designed for this purpose. This will help redirect your cat’s scratching activities to the post.
I had heard that scratching posts should be tall for your cat. After Sassy destroyed her shorter post, I went to Chewy to find something taller. It was easy to set up although it took me a few minutes to find the dowels, screws "hiding" on the side of the post itself! It didn't take long before Sassy was enjoying her sturdy post-plus it seems very immune to destruction! It is an investment but well worth it.

THE most sensible, well-designed and constructed scratch post I've seen. Most are way too short. This one is tall enough for my cat to use it and get a pretty good stretch, but I would have made it 6-12 inches taller yet. I "carpeted" then base and the top with inexpensive, rubber-backed doormat material and contact cement. The cats love that additional feature.
Instant love, cats approve!

My cats absolutely LOVE this scratching post! I was hesitate at first because I didn’t want it to be an eyesore in my living room, and it isn’t. It fits in perfectly! It’s sturdy too! I used to buy the cardboard scratchers that would leave small little pieces of cardboard all over the carpet. I was at a major pet store the other day, and the sales clerk explained that the fibrous woven surface is actually better for the cats nails compared to the cardboard scratchers. Overall, one of the best purchases I’ve made from Chewy that will same me money over time!
love to scratch!

It could be a bit taller. My cats are 10 & 12 lbs and it's not quite tall enough for a full stretch. But, one of them likes it a lot. The other, not so much. No problems with assembly or sturdiness. no problems with screws marking floors, as some reviewer had mentioned. Good, basic post.

My cats did not like this product. It is well constructed and easy to put together but they have not used it. I followed all the recommendations, catnip, showing them how to use it to no avail. They are still scratching the furniture and using the other scratching post.

Pet Refuge asked for this style. It allows the cats to stretch all the way out. They love it. Sent two direct. Because they met the prepaid shipping, they were shipped directly to Pet Refuge. How easy is that???
Nice and tall for big kittehs

I had one from several years back and it was in very bad shape after 3 cats using it constantly. So I ordered a new one. Unfortunately the top was damaged when it arrived, but Chewy's sent out a new one to replace it! Cats are happy, I'm happy!
Truly the Ultimate Scratching Post

This really is the ultimate scratching post. My two little ones prefer rope & sisal scratchers to the carpet covered ones, so I decided to get this one. I had previously purchased a scratcher that this company makes that sits on the floor & they really liked it. Well they love this one! It is very sturdy & I think it will last a very long time. The one thing I would change is being able to see the two holes/indentions with the screws on the top of the scratcher, otherwise it is perfect.

This is my second scratching post. The first lasted 10 years and three cats. The last cat is quite a bit harder on the post than the first two. She is a Bangel with very long claws and I don't suspect this post will last 10 years. After the abuse the post took, it never became unraveled. She shredded it until it looked like a hairy post lol, but it did not come apart. I couldn't have asked more from a post.
