The positives: this is a fantastic toy that keeps him busy for half an hour at a time. I’ve seen other reviews that it’s “cheap.” I strongly disagree. Charlie is rough with all his toys and this thing just keeps going. As other reviewers have noted, it makes a loud grinding noise when he prevents it from moving (when he catches and keeps the wand.) I just move it out of the TV room when I don’t want to hear the noise. He loves it. I mean really loves it. Now the only negative: I bought this as the original toy. Chewy now sells a “replacement” version for just a bit more. Buy the replacement version. The wand comes off with enough play and then Charlie carries off the wand to heaven knows where. You need several wands. Chewy does not sell replacement wands, just the whole unit AND extra wands. For a few dollars more, you get the unit, the extra wands and a whole lot of fun for the cat. If you can deal with some noise, you’re in for a treat watching your cat attack this thing. BTW, I’ve had this for a couple months now. It still hasn’t broken and he still loves it.
I bought this item in hopes of entertaining my 15-year-old deaf cat who needs mental stimulation and/or my 11-year-old cat who needs stimulation to minimize aggression. The younger cat was interested but the item did not work properly out of the box. The "tail" stayed hidden under the fabric, causing the fabric to get caught and the tail to stop working. I had to repeatedly untangle the tail. Then, it stopped working entirely after about 10 minutes of use with brand-new batteries. It was returned for a refund.
I ordered this because we rescued a cat who only enjoys moving toys. The skirt covers the moving toy part entirely so your pet can’t really see the toy moving around. It’s pretty loud, and gets stuck easily. It’s also extremely easy to remove the toy, thus making the movement part of this toy kinda useless. This doesn’t keep my cats interest as much as I hoped, but it’s entertaining to my ferrets, so we’ll use it for however long it stays functioning.
Cheap but works
It’s an okay toy. VERY cheaply made. The wand/mouse attachment becomes detached VERY EASILY. The cover for it is flimsy and doesn’t stay flat. When your cat catches it, the motor makes a really loud cranking noise. It definitely keeps my cats entertained but I don’t think it’ll last that long and I definitely would not leave them alone with it. Do not pay more than $15 for this it’s honestly only worth $10 at best.
Wish it stayed on longer
My 12yr old indoor cat loves this but I wish it stayed on longer. I think it stays on 10min but when it shuts off she is never done playing w it. It would be amazing if it was motion activated while in a sleep mode so that when kitties want to play with it, it will turn on and stay on as long as they want. Only other negatives are that when the mouse is caught it makes a loud clicking sound due to the motor being held up and the stick often comes unscrewed and I have to screw it back on several times a day.
Eh it's ok
So, I had one of these a few years ago and it was amazing. This one..same brand..same kind..not so much. The cover slips off almost immediately when they start playing and I find the "stick and toy" in another room later in the day so evidently that doesn't stay secure either even tho I do tighten it. Maybe these babies are too rough or something but I'm pretty disappointed. They do LOVE the toy tho..just doesn't last long.
She loves it!
My very active little kitten needs a lot of exercise and stimulation. We have lots of interactive playtimes, but when I'm worn out and she's still wound up, this toy takes over for a few minutes more of hunting and pouncing. This toy is very simple to put together. It will come apart during a rough session, but it's a cinch to put it back together. We're very happy with it.
Will not be a long lived toy
This toy is pretty cheaply made. The fabric piece doesn't lay flat once it's attached to the motor part. The wand screws onto the motor, but somehow unscrews itself. The end of the wand is a sort of fake fur type material. The cats keep trying to pull parts off and earing it. The wand also gets caught up in the cover fabric. It is not a toy I can leave out if I'm not around to supervise.
Some will love
My sister's cats have this toy and are obsessed with it. One will drag it around by the "mouse" when it isnt on! The blue "shield" part is thicker and more rigid on hers than the one I got. My recent purchase would tend to bunch up as the fabric was too light. it at first startled my cat, then she enjoyed it for a little while, but I did end up taking it to a shelter after a couple weeks, as she had lost interest. They may need to go back to the more rigid shield in order to maintain the fun.
I have a tiny kitten and a 7-year-old Maine Coone cat & they both love this toy! The price was great & I'd pay more if it was motion activated. You have to push the button on top to activate. It does however go for a few minutes before you have to push it again. I also like that it stops the rotation & lights flash before it starts again. Keeps the cats guessing.
