Can this be used sideways? Can I place it so the length of the stairs presses against my bed instead of just the back of it pressing against the bed or does the top step require the support of the bed?

The Ramp/Scalloped Steps must be used right side up with the flat portion touching the bed/couch/chair/or other item. We never recommend placing the item on the side, as this could cause the pet to fall down or other injuries to happen. The back of the Ramp must touch the bed/or whatever item you want the dog to reach.
can you wash or wipe these off?

The scalloped dog stairs come with a microsuede cover that is stain-resistant, water-repellant and machine washable, so you can easily keep it clean. Just remove the easy-off zippable cover to wash cold, then tumble dry low.

Ok but not great

I got these for my cat who was having surgery. I didn't want her to jump up and down my bed at night so I got these. They took way too long to get here and were hard to set up. By the time they got here I had to use something else for my cat because they got here too late to be useful. They were really hard to set up. My other cat likes walking up and down them, though.

Very nice but super expensive

My Yorkies love it and it's a great design. But seriously, almost $200 for foam and a cover????? Just wow.
