Our 7 month old English Mastiff allegedly has chicken allergies. Solid Gold was the first product we tried to see if their ingredients would make a difference with his sensitive skin and constant scratching and it did. We found it affordable in the beginning until they raised the price to $4.00 a can. In an effort to save money I purchased this Barking At The Moon instead of Love At First Bite and our puppy wouldn't eat it. And he eats EVERYTHING! The difference was that this is a pate. Had I realized that I wouldn't have purchased it. There's no gravy, no texture, nothing appetizing about it. It's hard to believe it's from the same company. The LAFB had juicy chunks of meat, vegetables, and visible apple pieces in it. This is just mush. Other dogs may be grateful to have wet food but our pup wanted nothing to do with it.
We fed our Goldens Solid Gold kibble for years. Stopped after the company was sold and we adopted dogs with touchy digestive systems. We have been feeding our current boy Natural Balance, but have been unable to find it since Smuckers sold the company. Very grateful to find the canned Solid Gold. It is terrific and my pup loves it. No digestive problems, easy changeover. Can't believe I missed getting this for so long.
I wish you had smaller cans, I give my dog 1/4 can a night and I do t like holding the food for 4 days. I don’t think I would purchase them again. Other than that I am pleased this far
I have one very picky chihuahua and one not so picky husky, both of them wanted nothinggggg to do with this food.
Quality ingredients, but my pup won't touch it. It does smell horrible, like rotten meat.
Murphy loves this food. He inhales it . He always checks his bowl to see if he left any behind.
I am unsure if this is how it’s supposed to look but I felt too uneasy to feed my dogs this. (Photo of food at bottom of the can). The rest looked like normal pate.
I cook them liver every other day. I was taking an easy way out by trying this. My dogs won't eat it. I guess I'll donate the cans
I see quite a few people are unhappy with the whitefish...I have a GSD with perianal fistulas, he does best with whitefish, it's very hard to find dog food, dry or wet with majority ingredient of whitefish. I don't love the pate consistency, the food is described by the company as pate. The odor, isn't any worse than the other canned foods I've tried, perhaps those who had a rotten fish smell, had a bad, old or overheated batch. I cannot see any of the pieces of carrots or other vegetables mentioned in other comments, it's highly processed and the ingredients are unrecognizable. I have 2 GSDs both are 5.5yrs, a 3yrs GPD, none are picky eaters, just need to cater to the boy with health issues. Solid Gold should probably change the front label to avoid unhappy customers. I recently purchased a canned food, Wellness Core grain free whitefish, salmon, & herring formula at $4.15 per can, without reading the ingredients listed on the back of the can...got it home, number one ingredient is CHICKEN! Which my boy cannot have, very disappointing and a lesson to take the time to read the ingredients. Overall, I'm content with this food, always room for improvements.
I love that I can give a different dog food to our one dog which is grain sensitive. He loves this food and looks forward to eating something different from time to time.
