Transition Instructions

Switching to any new dog food should be a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days. Replace 25% of the current food with Solid Gold for 2 to 3 days, then feed a little more Solid Gold over the next 5 - 7 days until your dog is eating Solid Gold exclusively. This gradual transition will help reduce digestive upsets that may occur due to the change in diet.

    High performance

    By on

Haven't used very long adding to our new family member who is a great dane. Having a hard time keeping weight on him. Hopefully this will work. He is handling well as we are mixing with his current food.

He acts like I'm torturing him

    By on

I bought this as a replacement for his previous food and I have to encourage him to eat it. This may sound silly, but my dog LIVES FOR FOOD. He will eat anything, or so I thought. So for him to not like something it must be awful.

So, I purchased this for 1 of my dogs and it gave her an upset tummy (very loose stool). *Yes, I transitioned her properly. She started having crate accidents daily. Maybe it was just too rich for her, not sure, but we have switched and thank goodness she is back to normal! (I do use another Solid Gold dry food and it has performed well with other dogs.)

formula change not ideal for diabetic dog

    By on

I did hours of research finding a low carb, low glycemic (veggies/fruits), high protein grain free dog food when my dog became diabetic. I was thrilled to find Solid Gold Barking at the Moon Hi Protein Duck formula with 25% carbs. Unfortunately, the new formula contains potatoes (high glycemic sugar spiker) which isn't the ideal carb for diabetics. The rest of the ingredients are still very impressive, but I will buy a different dog food with all good "diabetic" carbs to avoid adding unnecessarily to his blood sugar which equates to a higher dose of insulin.

love solid gold, not this formula

    By on

My dog absolutely loves solid gold!!! I tried this one to change it up for him but the kibble was so very tiny and left LOTS of crumbs in the bag. This one not a favorite.

    My dogs love this!

Even my girl that's picky! They both enjoy this food. No toppings needed. My other who is prone to allergies has done very well on this food too. Love it! Kibbles are true to size. The photo is correct.

    My dog likes it

I have been on the hunt for a high protein diet for my dog (since another brand discontinued theirs). I have tried a few but he wasn't eating them well. This one he likes!

    Works for my two Aussies

    By on Top 100 Contributor

This is one of the very few "high protein" kibbles that actually comes close to my own definition of high protein- its label lists 41%protein, 20% fat, fiber 4%, moisture 10%. On average, kibble are typically 10% ash - so, adding protein, fat, fiber, moisture, and ash, then subtract from 100%, and then you will know the percentage carbohydrates. For this food, that means it's only 15% carbs - yay! This is a nice complement to the other Barking at the Moon formulation; this version's first 3 ingredients are duck, turkey meal, and chicken meal, so you can alternate between the recipes to rotate proteins, with very little GI upset for most dogs.

    Solid Gold

    By on

My foster from Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue came to me with scabs all over her from skin allergies. Barking at the Moon was recommended as it is low in carbohydrates (which feed the yeast). I was able to get it in duck and egg which was great because she is allergic to red meat, wheat and soy. She had no problems with itching during her stay with me. Her new family plans to continue to purchase Solid Gold for her.

Kibbles Twice As Large As Photo

    By on

Just wanted to write this as an FYI because it's not misleading, it's just an outright lie. The kibbles according to the picture are just under 1/4". They are actually about 1/2". I got this food because of how small the kibbles were supposed to be so I'm writing this for everyone else who also has to take kibble size into consideration.
