Questions & Answers

8 Customer Questions

What is the “Natural Flavor”?
Answer by ChewyAug 01, 2021
The natural flavor is a hydrolyzed liver, which is applied to the outside of the kibble. Hydrolyzed means the protein has been broken down (hypoallergenic) - a process where the protein is pre-broken down so the body does not recognize it as protein applied to outside like probiotics and canola oil. The natural flavor will make the kibble taste and smell good.

What are the phosphorus levels in this food?
Answer by ChewyFeb 05, 2020
The phosphorus content in our Love at First Bark canned recipes (both chicken and beef) is approximately 1.3% on a dry matter basis.

what are the ingredients? what kind of potatoes?
Answer by ChewyJul 28, 2021
This recipe uses white potatoes. For a complete list of ingredients, click on the 'Nutritional Info' tab, next to the 'Description' tab, just under the product photos.

The recommendation for feeding seems like a lot. How much would I give to my 6 month old pup that weighs 16 lbs?
Answer by ChewyOct 27, 2019
Like human babies, puppies start out needing many small meals a day in order to get the nutrients they need for development. According to the feeding guidelines for this food, it's 3/4 of a can for every 5 lbs. For a 16 lb puppy, you'd feed up to 2 and a half cans per day until they're into their adult stage.

Great Product

I was specifically looking for something grain free, and "paleo-like," so to speak, and I'm impressed with the list of ingredients. I have a large pup, Lab mix (grandma was 1/2 St. Bernard). I don't want to spoil her with the wet food so right now I'm feeding her dry food for breakfast and dinner. I give her this one for lunch so I can keep an eye on how it works with her digestion. So far, so good, and it seems like this keeps her full for a longer period of time than the dry food (also grain free). She licks the bowl clean and I know she loves it. I know each pup is different, but I would definitely recommend Solid Gold Puppy Food based on how my Lizzie responds to it but mostly by the healthy ingredients :)

Solid Gold

I was looking forward to trying Solid Gold with beef after discovering my 5 month old puppy is allergic to chicken. It was very disappointing when he would not eat it. And neither will my older dog. I am glad I only bought 6 cans vs a case!

Doggie Approved

This food is little squares perfect for my little seniors teeth. Potato pieces and light gravy make a nice meal for my Rocky. Even though it says Puppy I bought it for my senior to give him a boost in taste that not only appeals to pups but all ages.

Our puppy loves it! Excellent puppy food!

Decided to try this as it looked very good and was on "special", and our puppy LOVES it! She gobbles up a whole can full, and literally licks her bowl!

appears good, but not appetizing

4/5 stars for the quality & quantity. Unfortunately my dog was not pleased by the textures or taste. I was also a bit put off because the “gravy” was very mucus-like in texture, which seemed to be my dog’s issue.

Puppy loves it

My puppy loves this food. Also, this food does not look gross like many canned foods which is a real plus for me. I tried another canned food first which made my puppy sick. This food was suggested by Chewy and it was a great choice.

Nutritious & eye appealing

My XL puppy & XL breed adults devour this puppy food. Can actually visualize apple chunks. Too bad it’s hard to find these days with the pet food shortage at least in my area

Lots of gravy

My dogs like this product but they prefer ground meat so I won’t purchase this again.

Great quality

Excellent quality, great for large breed puppies. My girl loves it, and has never had an issue. I don't use it as her main food, but mix with kibble & other goodies to stuff kongs & other chewing items (then freeze). Note: this is chunks of meat & potatoes with gravy--not a paste.
