The stairs require no assembly. The back legs are held in the open position by means of a wood locking brace, located under the top step. Swing the back leg away from the main stair section until the locking brace falls into position. When the brace is in the locked position, the edge of the brace will overlap the top edge of the leg (see nearby image). Test to make sure the locking brace is in position by attempting to fold the legs back to the main stair section: if they cannot be closed, the brace is correctly positioned. Now place the stairs in the desired location next to a couch, bed, etc. To fold the rear leg section for storage or transport, simply reach under the top step and press up on the wood locking brace to disengage it from the rear leg section.
This is wicket's second pair of pet stairs. The first set is used in one bedroom for a bed, while the second one is for another bed in another room. He's small, and there are high beds in all the rooms. Jumping down from a higher area looked to be harsh on his shoulders, since animals jump down front first. So, getting the stairs for him has helped with his joints, and gives him a second alternative to getting down from a higher area. These fold, and can be put away in any space perfectly fit for that.
Overall dimensions need specification

So I had looked at the Questions and Answers to help me figure out what dimension was for the hight, but that was apparently incorrect. As such, I'm either going to have to completely reconfigure my room so I can lower my bed or return the steps and build my own. Also, the 'locking' mechanism for the brace leaves a lot to be desired as it doesn't take much to dislodge it.
Perfect for our Boxers!

We recently pulled up all the carpet in our bedrooms and refinished the hardwood. Our boxers couldn't get enough traction to jump up in the bed, and they couldn't jump down without face planting!
Thankfully, we found these steps! Easy to use, easy to put away, trendy, etc..
Eventually, I will add some shaggy carpet to the steps, because the carpet on them now show EVERY piece of hair, but other than that, no complaints at all!

Perfect height for tall beds and the quality is great. My dog is 110 pounds and it took his weight fine even with his rambunctious behavior. The only reason I give it a 4 star instead of 5 is because I have hardwood floors and it does slide. I had to make my own nonslip bottom. Carpet it would be fine. Overall I love it and I also want to mention that chewy has the BEST customer service! The woman on the phone helped me go over many steps according to my needs.
Worth the $$

These stairs are sturdy enough to hold Olivia (50 lb. English Bull Terrier). The felt on the treads keep her from slipping & the angle is shallow enough for her to easily get up & down. They are light enough to move out of the way when not in use. Olivia & I are both glad I purchased these for her.

This is Very well made and love how it collapses and I can shove it under the bed. It will slide on a slick wood/vinyl/Pergo floor but all you have to do is put a strip of Non-Slip Area Rug Pad under the back and your pet is good to go!

My dog is 8 years old and weighs 25 pounds. These stairs are beautiful and look great with my bedroom furniture! Each step is (thinly but completely) carpeted, so she has traction. Slipping isn’t an issue here. The set of stairs has a locking mechanism, so it is stable. I currently have it on carpeted flooring but am changing that out to hardwood. So we’ll see how that goes... At first my dog wouldn’t touch the stairs, but she eventually warmed up to them. (My advice - use lots of treats and praise!). She still won’t go down the stairs, only up. Oh well!
Great for bigger dogs

I bought this for my 10 yr old, 80# pittie who has knee problems. We have a taller bed and I was worried about him getting up and down from it. It took him about a week to get used to it but now he is very comfortable. It is very sturdy and holds his weight well. It is well worth the price.
Decent, but not fabulous

So far, my Dachshunds have not used this because the steps do not have hardly any grip on them, and my boys feel like they will fall. The steps are pretty slippery. The ramp they were using/still using has a very good fabric that lets them grip with their paws. And since the steps are spaced so close together, it's hard for them to learn how to use the steps because of the slippery-ness.
Other than that, the size Large is good for my bedroom and the dark brown color is nice, but again, the steps are spaced pretty close together so it would best for a really small dog under 15lbs or so.

These are the first steps I've bought for my pups and it's beautifully designed and functions very well. I didn't want to add to plastics pollution so opted for the wood. I'm so glad I did.
