We bought this hoping for a more compassionate, less painful method of getting our Belgian Malinois to stop dragging us around on walks. It works most of the time, and we would definitely buy this again. We completely loosen the straps with the ring to which the leash connects to make it easier to put over our active dog's head. We're careful to make sure the protective soft covers are positioned correctly under the dog's legs and with more material in front near her chest, as this is where she'll feel the pressure when she tries to pull. We then tighten the leash straps so the chest straps don't shift. We adjust during walks as needed to maintain a comfortable position on the dog. So far, the dog has no chaffing and does not appear to mind this type of harness, where she resists other types of restraints. My husband still experiences periodic pulling, but I've had a great experience with this product and highly recommend it if you tend to walk slightly behind your dog. Our dog is about 65 pounds of pure muscle and is being trained for personal protection, search and rescue. She arrived untrained and traumatized three weeks ago, so we're still trying to get her to recognize her name, never mind basic commands like "sit" and "heel". This leash is one of several we use for different training needs.
The soft braces that run beneath the front legs looked comfortable for my pup. So I bought it. However, I must take Muffy outdoors at least three times a day as I live in a high rise. If I leave the halter on her all day, it pulls out the silver hair on my Yorkie where it straps are around her midsection. So I remove it after each outdoor trip. I had a hard time understanding where all the straps go and fastening it. It takes so long for me to get it on her so many times a day, we simply moved to a simpler halter.
I know the measurements are spot on because I decided to order one that was a bit smaller. The collar portion of this will not fit even one inch more than it says. It is well-made and will work well in the right-size dog. Unfortunately my chibeagle’s waspy figure (always a problem when buying a harness ) is between this size and the next one up.
This training halter is just what we needed to start training our new rescue dog. She accepted it immediately and it handles her well on walks. We will be using it also when we go camping to keep her secure as we explore a new environment. So glad we made this purchase.
Recommended by a neighbor and it’s perfect! 65 lb, year and a half dog who loves to lead. Now she rarely pulls and our walks are more pleasant. Don’t be fooled by the minimalistic look of the harness-it’s strong and is better/cooler for summer.
We've had these for all our dogs. They're the only ones that tighten up around the chest and armpits when your dog pulls. If you have a strong puller, many of the other designs with fixed straps just give the dog even more leverage. I give it 4 instead of 5 stars because they do wear some of the top fur a little.
So far so good. I can hardly hold my GSD when we go walking. With this new harness it is so much better and I am not jerked off my feet as I am with the other harness. Very pleased with the product thus far.
